Louisiana Republicans have commanded that every public school classroom, from pre-school through state universities must have a poster-size copy of the Ten Commandments!!

    Good idea?

BTW, Louisiana has the worst educational achievement of any American state.

The GOP-drafted legislation mandates that a poster-sized display of the Ten Commandments in “large, easily readable font” be required in all public classrooms, from kindergarten to state-funded universities. Opponents question the law’s constitutionality, warning that lawsuits are likely to follow.

If you weren’t aware our First Amendment states:

    First Amendment
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The SCOTUS has typically interpreted this to NOT allow the state to promote a particular religion, but there’s a new set of sheriffs in the nuSCOTUS today so it’s quite likely they will re-interpret our Constitution to agree with their personal beliefs.

    Exodus…

“I am the Lord your God… You shall have no other gods before me.”

“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me.”

“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.”

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.”

“Honor your father and your mother.”

    “You shall not murder.”

    “You shall not commit adultery.”

    “You shall not steal.”

“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.”

“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house, your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

Few Christians even attempt to keep the 10 Commandments. Lying, stealing, adultery, coveting, dishonoring parents, not keeping the Sabbath holy…

24 “‘Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you. 25 If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it. 26 And do not go up to my altar on steps, or your private parts may be exposed.’

As I watch the Morning News today I saw all the left wing channels well not all of them just CNN and MSNBC and CBS all bent that Fox News was making a big deal over the murder of Rachael Moren by an immigrant today. They thought it was horrible that Fox News would talk about that instead of talking about the wonderful things that biden’s doing. Doesn’t matter matter what biden’s doing as long as he’s letting in animals that do that to our people.

There is something wrong with the left wing Democrats in the party. They have gone so far to the left they’re inseparable from the crime itself. It’s almost as if they don’t care at all or perhaps they even want the crime. Today joy Reed looks like she was gonna kill somebody because fox headlined with the death of this poor lady. I see the joy Reid has decided to shave her head down the little nubs of blonde hair like all the radical leftist black women do. Must be a new sign of hating Trump or something.

Education system in Louisiana does reasonably well. There is the handicap imposed by the Teachers Union. But most white children and Asian are able to get into good colleges. Of course the blacks care very little so their achievement is traditionally poor.

    • CarolAnn says:

the nuSCOTUS today so it’s quite likely they will re-interpret our Constitution to agree with their personal beliefs.

you’re not gonna reinterpret anything they’re going to properly interpret it to mean that the Congress as it states shall pass no laws not the states. if the federal government does not want states two allow religion in schools may be the the federal government should get out of the education business which they shouldn’t be in to begin with. That power was never delegated to defence that was always a state power. So they elbow their way into education and then they start calling the shots while screw them that’s not how it’s supposed to be. If you were honest which of course you’re not you would admit that. Good once again you’re never wrong and if you’re wrong you’ll never admit it. Whatever it takes.

Once again it’s amusing to watch you run down through the Bible especially since first of all you don’t believe it and second of all of anybody here you were the one who disobeys it the most. In fact with your predisposition towards communist and Nazi philosophy it would seem you are the exact opposite of what a Christian should be.

Few Christians even attempt to keep the 10 Commandments. Lying, stealing, adultery, coveting, dishonoring parents, not keeping the Sabbath holy…

is that your opinion or do you have more statistics from the “nonpartisan” Congressional Budget Office? Exactly how many Christians do you figure attempt to keep the 10 commandments? Can you give us gross numbers? Or at least estimates? Because I’m a Christian and I go to church every week and I’m around a lot of other Christians and most of us try to keep the 10 commandments. So when you state unequivocally that few Christians even attempt to keep the 10 commandments I’m kind of curious as to what kind of “Christians” you hang around. I would assume they’re as much Christian as you are American. You say real Christians have almost nothing in common with a person like you. And we can start with your proclivity for killing babies and move up to your ability to buy into any hoax that comes along even about the climate or about the removal of little boys peckers so that they could become little girls.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

So, we’ll mark you down as in favor of state governments teaching Christianity to kids.

Would the Five Pillars of Islam be OK, too?

Profession of Faith (shahada): The belief that “There is no god but God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God”

Prayer (salat): Muslims pray facing Mecca five times a day

Alms (zakat): Giving a portion of your wealth to help the poor

Fasting (sawm): Muslims fast during the daylight hours in Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar

Pilgrimage (hajj): A pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city in Islam

Almost every society has long had prohibitions against murder, adultery, stealing, lying, dishonoring your parents, covetous nature, add in a few about whom and how to worship and you have the 10 Commandments.

Why are you so insecure in your religious beliefs that you need the power of the state to indoctrinate children?

You believe that the United States should be a Christian nation. Should Christians have preferred status in the US?

Buddhism is the state religion of Bhutan, Cambodia, Myanmar and Sri Lanka

Islam is the state religion of many nations in the Middle East and Northern Africa, including Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Pakistan, Algeria…

It’s interesting to note that our atheist from the Ozarks is upset by the display of the Ten Commandments, rules which, if followed, would mean that people were good people, even if Christianity itself is untrue, but is aghast that sensible people would like to keep displays of homosexual and ‘transgender’ agenda symbols out of the classroom, and prevent teachers from discussing such subjects in front of captive audiences full of impressionable, young minds.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

I identify as an agnostic! I see little evidence of a supreme being, angels, demons, devils, miracles etc but I might be plumb wrong!

        First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

As explained our Constitution is interpreted by our Supreme Court who translate the words of the document to guide actions.

In 1980 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Stone v. Graham that a Kentucky law on the posting of the Ten Commandments in school was unconstitutional.

This Court announced a three-part test for determining whether a challenged state statute is permissible under the Establishment Clause of the United States Constitution:

        3
“First, the statute must have a secular legislative purpose; second, its principal or primary effect must be one that neither advances nor inhibits religion . . .; finally the statute must not foster ‘an excessive government entanglement with religion.‘ ” Lemon v. Kurtzman.

Today, the Supreme Court is “different” from 1980. It’s quite likely the nu-Supremes will overturn Stone allowing advancing Christianity in public schools.

It’s become obvious that Supreme Court justices do not understand the law any more than an ambulance chaser. They search for legalese to support their beliefs.

Any district should be able to post their rules. But the objective of the MAGAtons is to push conservative Christianity down the throats of all Americans.

Would Mr Dana recommend that the governments turn the Ten Commandments into laws?

We used to have laws that closed businesses on the Sabbath.

We had laws to punish adultery.

Should we punish unbelief as heresy?

Would Mr Dana recommend that the governments turn the Ten Commandments into laws?

Why are you so afraid of Christianity? Why the fear of Jesus Christ? You’ve read the life of Jesus what has he done that puts fear into your heart and makes you want to run a society not based on his teachings and philosophy?

We used to have laws that closed businesses on the Sabbath.
I was not alive then but according to my father family stayed together on Sundays had dinner together or went out to dinner together the bars were closed and it made for a much more civilized and courteous society. He could be wrong but I doubt it

We had laws to punish adultery.
And it’s so much better now when we don’t punish adultery and we have people running around screwing each other because now we have a proliferation of venereal disease, millions of aborted babies by having pregnancies and using abortion as birth control, millions of broken families, and millions of unwed mothers and fatherless children. Boy ain’t it great when you don’t punish adultery?

Should we punish unbelief as heresy?

I don’t know it might be nice if you stopped insulting Christians at every turn. It could improve society if instead of being hostile to a religion of peace you’re actually treated with respect and treating Christians with the respect that they deserve. At least with the amount of respect they treat atheists like yourself. It also might be nice if they taught about Christianity in schools. Not converted people in schools just taught the history of the religion and what it accomplished and what it contributed to the growth of mankind. Specifically what it did to help create America. I know that’s a subject that you hate to discuss how white straight Christian men created this country but it’s a fact whether you like it or not.

you keep printing here that all white Christian Republicans wanna create a theocracy. That’s just not true. White Christian conservatives have had hundreds of years to create a theocracy here if we wanted to. In fact we could have just kept everybody out and made it a theocracy after all we did discover the country. You sound like the people who are screaming that trump wants to be a dictator but they forget that he was already president for four years and he didn’t become a dictator did he?

Most of them have been! Despite the proclivities of certain members of your St Louis community, murder already is illegal, theft is illegal, lying in certain situations is illegal, and adultery can be civilly punished in divorce. Six states still allow alienation of affection lawsuits, though the Show Me State is not one of them.

One thing is undeniable: when those laws were in force, we had a safer and more secure society.

    Hi CarolAnn,

Your Christian cult leader, Big Donnie, is not a very good example of a Christian is he? Sexual harassment, rape, stealing, lying, adultery, covetous, God’s name in vain, ignores the Sabbath…

Anyway, do you really believe each state should decide their own official government supported religion? Do you believe that’s what our deist founding fathers wanted? The Islamic State of Michigan. The Jewish State of New York. The Atheist State of Oregon. The Buddhist State of Hawaii etc, etc and so forth.

Your position that our federal Constitution is superseded by the states is interesting, although I disagree. Maybe the US should break up into individual countries and form the Organization of American States (OAS) or the American Union (AU).

    • CarolAnn says:

Your Christian cult leader, Big Donnie, is not a very good example of a Christian is he? Sexual harassment, rape, stealing, lying, adultery, covetous, God’s name in vain, ignores the Sabbath…

must you always start out with a lie? Can’t you have a discussion without sticking to the truth? Christianity is not a cult it’s a recognized universal religion for two Millennium. And big Donnie as you term him just to be an asshole is not the leader Jesus Christ is you moron.

Anyway, do you really believe each state should decide their own official government supported religion? Do you believe that’s what our deist founding fathers wanted?

Since I believe in our Republic and the right of self determination of each state which is why we’re a Republic yes I do believe states should decide their own official government supported religion if they choose to. I used to live in the Quaker state guess why they called it that? Our founding fathers weren’t deists, the vast majority of them were Protestants.

Of course you have to go to level 11 right off the bat start talking about breaking up the states etcetera etcetera because as a person who’s always screaming about our democracy you can’t possibly let states determine their own future if they don’t agree with you. Again what seems to be the harm of allowing people in a country founded by Christians to study Christianity in school?

Why are you so afraid of Jesus Christ? And why are you so afraid of having His philosophy talked about among His people? You believe the government is your religion and we understand that because that’s how you treat it. But you also need to allow other people to have their beliefs and if somebody doesn’t wanna be a Christian they don’t have to be a Christian nobody’s saying that except you.

That said, I’m not certain what conservative “Christians” love. They make clear what they hate – which appears to be everyone that disagrees with their beliefs. Much like the Islamists.

I assume you’ve heard of the Sermon on the Mount, the Sermon of the Plain and the Lord’s Prayer.

It seems to me you cannot follow Donald Trump and be a follower of Jesus. But I could be wrong.

I do not wish to suppress your beliefs, but I do not have to believe as you, and no good comes from government support and promotion of a particular religion.

Commenters here and beyond espouse the benefits of government dictates forbidding sex outside marriage, prohibiting work on Sunday, requiring Christianity be taught in public schools, not to mention banning abortions, banning IVF, LGBTQ restrictions, banning Muslims etc

        Will you still revolt?

        WOLVERINES!!

        • Flexo says:

The conversation that followed was a difficult one, led by the activists charged with the protest strategy. “We wanted to be mindful of when was the right time to call for moving masses of people into the street,” Peoples says. As much as they were eager to mount a show of strength, mobilizing immediately could backfire and put people at risk. Protests that devolved into violent clashes would give Trump a pretext to send in federal agents or troops as he had over the summer. And rather than elevate Trump’s complaints by continuing to fight him, the alliance wanted to send the message that the people had spoken.

So the word went out: stand down. Protect the Results announced that it would “not be activating the entire national mobilization network today, but remains ready to activate if necessary.” On Twitter, outraged progressives wondered what was going on. Why wasn’t anyone trying to stop Trump’s coup? Where were all the protests?

Decades after the entire federal government and most of the private sector has deliberately restructured itself to hire and promote more black Americans — often by lowering standards — the result is that millions still think the entire system is stacked against them. Deuteronomy Chapter 5

6 I am the LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.
7 Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven image, even any manner of likeness, of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
8 Thou shalt not bow down unto them, nor serve them; for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate Me,
9 and showing mercy unto the thousandth generation of them that love Me and keep My commandments.
10 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain.
11 Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD thy God commanded thee.
    12 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work;
13 but the seventh day is a sabbath unto the LORD thy God, in it thou shalt not do any manner of work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy man-servant and thy maid-servant may rest as well as thou.
14 And thou shalt remember that thou was a servant in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God brought thee out thence by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.
15 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God commanded thee; that thy days may be long, and that it may go well with thee, upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
16 Thou shalt not murder. Neither shalt thou commit adultery. Neither shalt thou steal. Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 Neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour’s wife; neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour’s house, his field, or his man-servant, or his maid-servant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

When you go to WalMart or Costco or the gas station or airport or a Bob’s Diner on a Sunday are you violating God’s commandment?

If the neighbor’s hot, young wife is mowing their lawn in a bikini, is it a violation to take a lingering peek?

If your parents were Wiccans, but you found Jesus, would you, your children, your grandchildren and great-grandchildren have the “iniquity of the father” visited upon them?

      CarolAnn,

The question is whether the government of the United States of America or any of her 50 states should support a particular religion. I say no, you say yes.

Let’s compromise. For every Christian poster required, we also require a Muslim poster, a Jewish poster, a Hindu poster, Buddhist poster and an Atheist poster. Fair enough?

I would vote that we not include religious instruction in public schools.

I understand that you do not believe the US Constitution does not apply to the individual states, but that’s a separate issue.

      • Dana says:

Our agnostic from the Ozarks wrote:

What does the “establishment” of religion mean? The Framers meant that the federal government was prohibited from establishing a national Church of the United States, but had no intention of disrupting the established churches in the six states which had them.

Louisiana has a lot of Catholics, but the Catholic Church is not an official state church in the Bayou State. The Ten Commandments are found in the Christian Bible and Jewish Torah, so posting them does not establish either any particular Christian denomination or sect of Judaism as an official religion.

        For Muslims?

The Qur’an makes reference to the Ten Commandments twice. Quran Book 7:142–5 describes how Moses received the divine tablets. but doesn’t describe what was on them.

“And We ordained laws for him in the tablets in all matters, both commanding and explaining all things, (and said): ‘Take and hold these with firmness and enjoin thy people to hold fast by the best in the precepts’…” (Quran 7:142–5)

The other, in Book 2, says:

“Remember when we made a covenant with the children of Israel: You shall not serve any save God, and to be good to parents, and the near kinsman, and to orphans, and the needy, and speak good to all people, and perform the prayer, and pay the alms.” (Quran 2:83–4)

The percentage of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, and atheists are not the same; if we were going to post such things, we would have to do so in proportion to their percentage of the population.

Of course, the public schools are already putting up atheist posters, in the form of homosexual and ‘transgender’ support and approval, as none of the major religions allows for those things, and all actually condemn them. The public schools are not neutral on religion, but actively lobbying against it.

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Protestantism is the top US religion at 33%, No Religion is tied with Catholicism at 22%, followed by Muslims, Jews, Hindus and
Buddhists. The number of Christians is dropping and is expected to drop below 50% over the next several decades. Bu most of the southern border immigrants are Christians which could slow the exodus.

We understand that most religions, based as they are on old prejudices, hate LGBTQ humans, but modern humanity recognizes all humans as deserving rights and respect – independent of age, ancestry, color, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, genetic information, HIV/AIDS status, military status, national origin, pregnancy, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Yes, this is a liberal or leftist position, so opposed by the right and conservative Christians.

No, the schools are not lobbying against religion, but they do not promote religion either. Nor should they. Ignoring religion is not equal to lobbying against it.

          • Dana says:

The leftist from left of the Mississippi River wrote:

We understand that most religions, based as they are on old prejudices, hate LGBTQ humans, but modern humanity recognizes all humans as deserving rights and respect – independent of age, ancestry, color, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, genetic information, HIV/AIDS status, military status, national origin, pregnancy, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Yes, this is a liberal or leftist position, so opposed by the right and conservative Christians.

Unless a Christian is completely ignorant of the Bible, as, sadly, Pope Frank and too many of the bishops seem to be, they should realize that the Bible, which is accepted by Christians as the inspired word of God, and God prohibited homosexual activity. It seems, sadly, that Bishop John Stowe, of the Diocese of Lexington, believes that God was just plain wrong when he prohibited homosexual activity.

No, the schools are not lobbying against religion, but they do not promote religion either. Nor should they. Ignoring religion is not equal to lobbying against it.

But the public schools are not just ignoring religion. By promoting homosexuality and ‘transgenderism,’ they are promoting positions diametrically opposed to the religious views of a majority of Americans. They are attempting to teach a captive audience — remember: we have compulsory education laws in every state — of young minds things that are completely opposite from what their parents’ religion teaches.

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

The righty from right of the Mississippi typed: the Bible, which is accepted by Christians as the inspired word of God, and God prohibited homosexual activity

The schools promote freedom, tolerance and human decency. It’s a religious view that LGBTQ individuals are less than human.

Why do you wish to control what others do that doesn’t affect you?

  8. Elwood P. Dowd says:

The American right-wing (aka MAGAts) darling, Vladimir Putin, recently visited the communist nations of North Korea and Vietnam! NK and Russia signed a common protection pact.

Russia, unable to supply its own materiel needs, has turned to North Korea for help in conquering Ukraine.

  9. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Hope you were able to catch the baseball game on FOX tonight. Cardinals vs Giants at Rickwood Field in Birmingham AL, the home field of the Negro League’s Birmingham Black Barons. Willie Mays got his professional start as a teenager with Black Barons. Past players in the Negro Leagues were interviewed throughout the game.

  10. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you.

  11. Jl says:

Groomers in schools ok, the Ten Commandments not so much…
Letting under age children with a mental illness cut off their genitals ok, posting a moral code not so much…

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Tell us more about groomers in schools, please.

Any examples of underage children cutting off their genitals?

Did the so-called “moral code”, 10 commandments, address either of these “crises”?

      No?

      First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Previous Supreme Courts have found promoting the christian religion in public schools to be unConstitutional. It’s quite likely the tRump Supreme Court will reverse this.

A branch of the conservative movement wishes to make America a conservative, white christian state.

    • L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! says:

For people like Elwood and H think that we’re too stupid to realize that there atheism is their religion and they are teaching in schools. They also think we’re too stupid to realize that they’re so afraid of Jesus Christ that they won’t even let his name be said in a public schooling. It’s funny how they take out God and patriotism and the kids ended up being homosexuals and criminals and drug addicts and when we start talking about just introducing them to Jesus Christ not forcing them just introducing they get all crazy about religion in school. If we’re not gonna teach all the different religions in schools where are people gonna learn? And if we’re not gonna primarily teach Christianity which is what this country was built on where are they gonna learn that? Well they’re not which is exactly their point they don’t want kids to know that this country was founded by straight white Christians. Just like they don’t want to let these people know that slavery was ended by straight white Christians.
