U.S. Pier for Gaza Aid Is Failing, and Could Be Dismantled Early
The $230 million temporary pier that the U.S. military built on short notice to rush humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip has largely failed in its mission, aid organizations say, and will probably end operations weeks earlier than originally expected.
In the month since it was attached to the shoreline, the pier has been in service only about 10 days. The rest of the time, it was being repaired after rough seas broke it apart, detached to avoid further damage or paused because of security concerns.
The pier was never meant to be more than a stopgap measure while the Biden administration pushed Israel to allow more food and other supplies into Gaza through land routes, a far more efficient way to deliver relief. But even the modest goals for the pier are likely to fall short, some U.S. military officials say. (snip)
In the latest blow to the aid effort, the U.S. military said on Friday that it would temporarily move the pier to keep it from being damaged by high seas.
The decision “is not made lightly but is necessary to ensure the temporary pier can continue to deliver aid in the future,” the U.S. Central Command said in a post on social media, stating that the pier would be towed to Israel. Sabrina Singh, a Pentagon spokesperson, said on Monday the pier could be reattached and aid deliveries resumed later this week.

That’s a normal day at the beach. Did they think it was going to be calm and flat all the time?
Central Command said on Friday that 3,500 tons of aid had been delivered to shore using the pier since the operation started on May 17, with about 2,500 tons of that delivered since the pier was re-anchored and resumed operations on June 8.
But much of the aid that makes it through is not reaching Palestinians, aid groups said, because of the logistical and security issues, and looting.
Aid workers say the equivalent of only seven truckloads of assistance is arriving in Gaza via the pier each day, far short of the goal of eventually ramping up to 150 trucks per day.
So, the pier is a failure and what little makes it through is stolen, mostly by Hamas.
Yet Brandon is still denying military arms to Israel.

And they’ve done it by being against everything Christianity stands for from unborn babies to freedom of the individual. They’re doing a good job of it too.
I do wonder if the Democrats would have been friendlier to Israel if it were led by one of their Leftists parties. The Obama and Biden administrations have been very frosty towards Netanyahu. Senior government leaders even called for his resignation and new elections to be held. It’s hard for Dems to be critical of Israel though since even their “far-right” is pretty darned socialist in social policy. Further, national policies in the USA are not readily transferable to Israel so concepts of Left and Right don’t work the same over there.
The current Biden Administration, whoever is really running it, are in a difficult position in, let’s call it, “a closely held contest”. They are no doubt trying to triangulate and find that sweet spot that makes all of their new and old political allies not hate them enough to jump ship or stay home on election day. They think that by straddling the fence, they can get Jews and Moslems and LGBTs and Blacks and “Hispanics” and retired geezers and college students getting useless degrees in easy fields and childless women to still like them. That’s a tough sell since all of those groups are only united by their hatred of Trump, not by Democratic party policies and priorities. The problem is that the Democrats have been going hard on cancel culture for about 20 years and by their own rules, anyone who does not support their side vigorously enough is an enemy. Lukewarm support or (randomness forbid) neutrality on ANY agenda item is not going to be enough to satisfy their multiplicity of factions.
I wonder what the Democrat’s plan B is if Biden does not survive long enough to still be breathing on election day. Will they do a breakfast at Bernies? Maybe a Moon over Parador scenario? I am hoping that someday someone writes a news article about who has really been running the government during the Biden Administration. Most people think it is Obamas third (illegal) term but fail to notice that it might literally be Obama still acting as shadow president. In such a case, it may even be Obama’s fourth term, if you count the shadow government controlling things even during the Trump administration. Democrats only pretend to care about Democracy, the Constitution, and the Law. In reality, they only care about holding onto power, by any means necessary. At the end of the Trump administration, Trump left town. Obama never did.

Israel is an advanced nation that receives billions of dollars of aid from the US every year.
Their current battle is with a “shithole” society of 1 million trapped in the 25 square miles of Rafah. The United States has legitimate concerns with being associated with dropping 2000 pound bombs on civilians.
Mr Netanyahu has made it increasingly clear that he is not a friend of the United States, although he is a good friend of Donald Trump!
