Too bad the settlement doesn’t mean things like restricting the kiddies from all fossil fueled travel
Hawaii agrees to ‘groundbreaking’ settlement of youth climate change case
Hawaii on Thursday agreed to take action to decarbonize its transportation system by 2045 to settle a lawsuit by 13 young people alleging the U.S. state was violating their rights under its constitution with infrastructure that contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change.
Democratic Governor Josh Green announced the “groundbreaking” settlement at a news conference attended by some of the activists and lawyers involved in the lawsuit, which they called the first-ever youth-led climate case seeking zero emissions in transportation.
As part of the settlement, Hawaii will develop a roadmap to achieve zero emissions for its ground, sea, and inner island air transportation systems by 2045, the year by which the state was already aiming to become carbon neutral.
Which means the cost to visit Hawaii and live there will skyrocket even more. I can’t wait till the youts express their dismay over this when they’re adults. When tourists say it’s just not worth travelling to Hawaii for a vacation
The agreement, which can be enforced in court, calls for the creation of a volunteer youth council to advise the state’s Department of Transportation, which committed to reworking its planning to prioritize reducing greenhouse gasses and creating a new unit dedicated to decarbonization.
Putting people with zero knowledge in charge sounds like a spectacular idea, does it not? But, hey, all experiments need an experimental group, right?
Kinda like Brandon and his cabinet.
And that has worked out so well.
Mr Teach is always very concerned about the financial welfare of those top 15 richest states which for some weird (?) reason are all blue states, including Hawaii.
His own adopted state NC ranks in the bottom 1/3 in income.
Fossil fuel profits have financed terrorism for decades. Who do you think paid for 9/11? Solar companies or rightwing Arab sheiks ?
Carbon boy-what’s a “right wing Arab sheik”. No left wing ones? By the way, you forgot to insert Trump somewhere in your rant. You’re slipping…
About 10% of peoples income goes to transportation
Over the next 20 years Hawaii plans on decarbonizing that 10% they spend on fossil fuels used for transportation.
.
All 15 of the states with the highest avg income are blue
Why is that?
Why? They have to be to make up for all the high taxes.
Because they can insulate themselves from the consequences of their own policy preferences.
You have cause and effect reversed.
Which is what I would expect from someone whose head is up his ass.
Not much of a settlement since it is something they were going to do anyway. Normally such things are a thinly veiled transfer of tax money to activists groups and their lawyers.
Been to Hawaii and it was ok but no big deal, unless willing to pay very big bucks.
But I found interesting the military attitude. The military treats a posting there as a hardship and soldiers get similar allowances as in a war zone. The Hawaiians hate the soldiers and show it. They can’t afford anything. Even the dirt works against them as it is red and does not come out of their uniforms, for which they are fined.

Electric cars might work out for Hawaiians. I have zero problem with them all driving electric cars, bikes, and motorcycles. All except for the Big Island, most places are just a hop, skip, and jump away, no matter which direction they have to travel.
Montana, on the other hand, or all the huge RED STATES that feed the nation, including California and New York. It’s funny how you look out in those areas that feed the country. They are all DEEP RED in their political ideology, tucked away in the confines of a deep blue state because of the concrete jungles.
Look at all those blue states DOWD keeps referring too. Delaware, Rhode Island, Vermont, types. Tiny states.
Most of the GEOGRAPHY of these BLUE STATES are RED conservative. Look at any political map. Representative democracy does not work well in states that have Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, NYC, etc…etc. The rest of the state that ACTUALLY NEEDS to cover miles to get anywhere is fuked by people living in high rises and taking a bus to work because there is nowhere to park in these monstrosities they call home that are nothing but heat plumes changing the earth’s climate.
If you want to ban something it should be large cities. Not FARMS and RANCHES that feed your asses.
TRUE STORY: I thought I would throw this in. I know I tend to ramble but thats why I only post once or twice a day.
So, a couple of years ago, my brother-in-law, who lives in Seattle with his granddaughter, who is a bat-shit-crazed liberal, decided to come to my brother’s small ranch in DEEP RED WYOMING. It is my wifes brother so we decided to go visit my brother and she talked him into coming as well. We later went to Cheyenne and hung out there for several days taking in concerts and bull riding and rodeos at Cheyenne Frontier days. She wanted to experience fly over country. Those are her exact words.
To make a long story short, she was totally blown away by what she saw and experienced after living in the enormous metropolis of Seattle, Tacoma. She went back home with her political views unchanged except for one. Finally, she understood why people like my brother and those living in such a huge state with miles and miles between destinations, needed a gasoline-powered car instead of an electric motor scooter. It was eye-opening for both of us.
She loves hamburgers and was baffled that he had to do so much to bring them to her favorite restaurant. I mean, this gal is the classic example of what conservatives all make fun of. I never thought they existed, but I guess they really do. They are totally clueless about the world except for their own little one.
D & G
I never thought they existed, but I guess they really do. They are totally clueless about the world except for their own little one.
You jogged my memory…
Back in the early 50’s an Uncle and his brood from Chicago visited our TN farm… A cousin astounded us all when he asked to see the cow that gave chocolate milk.
So yes, they do exist
