Both Khelif and Lin Yu-ting were accused of being men by the Russian International Boxing Association (IBA) after the two boxers beat Russian boxers.
It’s possible that Khelif and Lin Yu-ting were both hyperandrogenized from disorders such as polycystic ovary or adrenal hyperplasia. As you well know women also produce some testosterone (about 1/10 what males produce), but it’s normally converted to estrogen in the ovaries and adrenals. A deficit in CYP19 (aromatase) enzyme can result in abnormally high testosterone. It’s a fairly common defect. Neither of these women were transgender.
That said, I think it unfair to 1) disqualify women for how they look or 2) to allow hyperandrogenized women to compete against women with normal levels of testosterone (~ 30 ng/dL).
Regarding transgender women, they maintain an advantage over natural women based on height, limb length, heart and lung capacity, muscular power, aggression, dominance and violence (most murderers and assaulters are male – that’s not a coincidence!).
