Election Officials’ Warning: Widespread US Mail Woes May Disrupt Voting
State and local election officials from across the country on Wednesday warned that problems with the nation’s mail delivery system threaten to disenfranchise voters in the upcoming presidential election, telling the head of the U.S. Postal Service that it hasn’t fixed persistent deficiencies.
In an alarming letter, the officials said that over the past year, including the just-concluded primary season, mailed ballots that were postmarked on time were received by local election offices days after the deadline to be counted. They also noted that properly addressed election mail was being returned to them as undeliverable, a problem that could automatically send voters to inactive status through no fault of their own, potentially creating chaos when those voters show up to cast a ballot.
The officials also said that repeated outreach to the Postal Service to resolve the issues had failed and that the widespread nature of the problems made it clear these were “not one-off mistakes or a problem with specific facilities. Instead, it demonstrates a pervasive lack of understanding and enforcement of USPS policies among its employees.”
Wait, they’re surprised by this? If I do not have 5 days to mail a birthday card to clients who live in a 40 mile radius I wait and send them a bday email, as I have zero confidence it will get there on time. Anyhow, the obvious solution to this is that people go vote in person, like should be happening except in certain situations, like a handicap, being overseas, being military outside the home state, being in the hospital. Not just because you do not feel like going over to the voting building during the usually 2 weeks of open voting.
Of course, what this sets the stage for when it comes to Democrats is for them to caterwaul about late ballots and that they should be counted even if very late. Certainly there will be no shenanigans, right?
Not really a problem. Postal employees are perfectly capable of filling out your ballots for you in the event that they are mishandled. They knew you wanted to vote for “democrat candidate to be named later” anyway.
Mail-in ballots have seen a 15 percent rise from 2020 by the Democrats.
Mail in ballots have seen an 84 percent rise by MAGA. I can’t stand using the word GOP or Republicans anymore because that is now synonymous with NEOCON Democrats.
For clarification, I used the AI-generated suggestions when typing and did not fact-check my own statement, so let me say that Mr. Lewis was correct that the CDC did not say what the AI-generated statement claimed in a post I made a couple of days ago. I take full responsibility for my own lack of fact checking the AI-generated correction of what I had originally posted.
Let me clear up the confusion: This was taken from Reuters by me. I also read information from AP which confirms the same statement so I will not post their take as it just makes this post longer.
From Reuters:
The next section, “Current Risk Assessment,” continues: “Based on what CDC knows now, existing tests used to detect and medications used to treat COVID-19 appear to be effective with this variant. BA.2.86 may be more capable of causing infection in people who have previously had COVID-19 or who have received COVID-19 vaccines.”
While the last sentence could be misinterpreted, CDC also said in a later section of the document with the heading “Immune impacts” that “The large number of mutations in this variant raises concerns of greater escape from existing immunity from vaccines and previous infections compared with other recent variants.”
I paraphrased what they said: The new covid strain is more likely to infect those who have had the shot or have had covid then those who have not.
I originally said The new covid strain is AS likely to infect…….
NOT MORE LIKELY, so my apologies for not catching the changes the AI generated when I clicked on the paragraph to clean up spelling and punctuation.
I will be more careful in the future.
Mail in voting has already caused a huge problem, in that it defeated President Trump in 2020.
Democrats, welfare malingerers that so many are, tended to have lower voting totals because so many of their supporters are simply too stupid and lazy to get out of bed and go to the polls. The covidiocy of 2020 led many states to simply mail out ballots, complete with postage paid return envelopes, which eased the burden of having to actually go to the polls, and that greatly favored the party of indolence and sloth.
Kentucky does it right. We have early voting on the Friday, Saturday, and Monday before election day at the county courthouse, using machine-read paper ballots. This way people who can’t make it to the polls between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM on Tuesday still have a reasonable chance to vote if they make the effort to do so, without the insecurities involved with mailing out ballots.
More, the Bluegrass State scans the bar code on the back of the voter’s driver’s license or state-issued ID, which provides additional security at the polls. I don’t know that the system is perfect, but it’s pretty good.
Mr Trump lost the 2016 election by almost 3 million votes, 48% to 46%.
Mr Trump lost the 2020 election by over 7 million votes, 51% to 47%.
He will undoubtedly lose the 2024 election as well.
Out of the 10s of millions of votes cast across America, several thousand voters in “swing” states Michigan and Pennsylvania often determine the President. In 2016, some 6 million Pennsylvanians voted with Mr Trump winning by 44 thousand. In Michigan, 4.5 million Michiganders voted and Mr Trump won by 11 thousand. Out of 129 million votes, Trump won by under 60,000 votes!
In 2020, turnout increased to 155 million, driven largely by “Trump fatigue”. President Biden defeated Mr Trump, but again, only by 10s of thousands of votes in “swing” states. MI, WI, PA, GA, AZ…
Turnout is everything. Mr Trump has a firm lock on 46-48% of voters! For Democrats to win they must “get out the vote” of less frequent voters.
BTW, following Taylor Swift’s endorsement of the Vice-President, 337,000 visited the voter registration website she linked.
