Our immigration system has become stupid with idiot laws
Earlier this year, migrant influencer Leonel Moreno tipped illegal immigrants on how to invoke squatter rights to their advantage and “invade” American houses without being a “public burden.” An Ohio-based immigration judge ordered the viral 27-year-old content creator to be deported from the US on September 9.
However, according to a report by the New York Post, it’s quite likely that the Venezuelan migrant would not be forced to leave the country. Moreno reportedly illegally crossed into Eagle Pass, Texas, on April 23, 2022. He was arrested in March 2024 after failing to attend mandatory check-in with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
First, he crossed illegally. That should invalidate any notion of asylum. Did he claim asylum? Or, was he just caught and released by the Biden-Harris admin? Second, once he missed the check-in he should have been scooped up and sent packing.
A complication hindering the deportation process could prevent Moreno’s exit. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s administration recently stopped accepting flights of migrants deported from the US and Mexico. According to the Wall Street Journal, this defensive move seeks to oppose Washington’s reimposition of economic sanctions on the country. Subsequently, the almost weekly flights from the US to the South American country were curbed in late January. (snip)
Geauga CountySheriff Scott Hildenbrand previously told the NY Post that Moreno is currently being held at the Geauga County Jail in Ohio. In the absence of any direct commercial flight to Venezuela following their suspension in 2019 due to unrest and violence, Moreno’s deportation has been put on hold.
Sources said that Moreno acknowledged in court that he was a rank-and-file member of the Venezuelan Navy. He is reportedly not linked to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.
Third, he’s a member of the Venezuelan Navy, so, he shouldn’t be eligible for asylum. Anyhow, why not just stick him on a plane going somewhere? Drop him off elsewhere. Stick him across the border in Mexico. Tell him to pick a nation and stick him on a plane, after seizing the funds he made with TikTok to pay for it.
So, Venezuelans can cross our borders illegally, but we have to respect Venezuelan law to not return them? Put him on a ship, and dump him off-shore of Venezuela in a life raft.
1. If only there were a place that the USA controlled, but was not “in the USA”. Some place this person could be sent that would HAVE to accept him because no government could say no. Maybe some place nice, like in the Caribbean.

Alternatively, if only our government were being run by competent people who had international clout and could makes deals, alliances, and treaties with other countries and have those other countries trust we would keep those deals, alliances, and treaties. Then maybe we could enter into agreements with those countries about the status of their citizens in our country and how to peacefully return them, as civilized nations would do.
US asylum law states an asylum seeker can do so at an official port of entry or within the US, but not from outside.
The Venezuelan in question is being held in jail, so what’s the problem?
Being a member of the Venezuelan Navy should have no bearing on asylum.
We could just execute the guy, or drop him in the ocean as other commenters suggest. But no, we Americans are just too decent.
