Hurricane Milton is getting all sorts of crazy, so we see
Hurricane Milton has unexpectedly intensified to Cat 5, with 160 mph winds, surprising meteorologists. Its rapid development raises concerns about reaching Cat 6 status soon.#HurricaneMilton will soon be a Cat 4 #hurricane and will hit Florida's this wed. pic.twitter.com/sGynRGBFRv

And there’s plenty of that on Twitter. And, even news weenies
Could Hurricane Milton become a Category 6? Why does the NHC’s scale stop at 5?
Hurricane Milton was just a tropical storm a day ago but it powered up incredibly quickly, forming a hurricane Sunday afternoon and surging up into a dangerous Category 5 hurricane within 24 hours as it crosses the very warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Forecasters from the National Hurricane Center say some weakening is anticipated before it slams into Florida’s west coast Wednesday. But that kind of rapid intensification is frightening.
If it keeps going, would Category 5 be enough to describe it? Do we need to add a Category 6?
Some experts say yes, but don’t expect to see one any time soon.
Of course they do, because it allows them to fearmonger
Hurricane Allen in 1980 reached maximum sustained winds of 190 mph. The “Labor Day” hurricane, in 1935, Hurricane Gilbert, in 1988, Hurricane Dorian in 2019, and Hurricane Wilma in 2005 all reached maximum sustained winds of 185 mph.
You also have the 1938 hurricane that hit Long Island in late September, with reports of 180 mile per hour winds. Though, since it was 1938 no one really has full data, especially as to whether that was sustained or gusts. Particularly since the wind gauge broke.
Hurricane Milton Hits Cat 5: Is It Time To Consider A Category 6?
No. Including the reason that the formatting at your website is atrocious. Seriously, the Warmists have been yapping about this for a few years, and their whole rational is to present ‘climate change’ as doom, despite giant hurricanes happening periodically.
If Milton makes landfall, it’s gonna be “Paradise Lost”
I wonder if after seeing 2 really bad disasters if some people are going to start thinking ” maybe those climate wackos are right about that climate change thing” might it affect voting ?
Sure. Just as soon as you climate whackos look at 100 years of storm records and say “maybe those guys who aren’t climate whackos were right along”. 2 storms is not “climate change” any more than 4 straight years without a storm is “lack of climate change”. Time to take the politics out of it and use all those recovery assets for why we created them. P.S. Fort Bragg still has thousands of military generators, thousand of trucks, hundreds of pieces of heavy engineer equipment, hundreds of tons of emergency supplies and units that can create drinking water. All just sitting there doing nothing. All it would take is a president who was actually sentient to put them to work.
Do you really believe people are that poorly informed and naïve to believe a couple storms in storm season is any indication of global destruction? Like there’s never been a summer/fall where more hurricanes haven’t occurred? And do you think they are so weak of mind and easily fooled as to vote differently because of storms? Especially since these storms are Biden/Harris fault and are on their watch? After all if you actually are dumb enough to believe the government can control the weather then you surely must believe Biden/Harris failed as leaders.
Mr White,
Let’s just admit that two Cat 4 hurricanes in 2 weeks is unusual. Two hurricanes are not global destruction.
And no, it’s unlikely any dedicated Trump voter will change their vote.
How are these storms the fault of Biden and Harris? Do you, like Marjorie Traitor Greene (R-GA), believe the Dems and Jews control the weather?
Humans burning fossil fuels results in gigatons of carbon dioxide (CO2) being added to the atmosphere each year. There is no longer any question that this CO2 caused and is causing the increased retention of heat in the atmosphere. Most climate scientists believe the increased temperature is leading to changes, and will continue to change the climate. Melting sea ice and glaciers, melting ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland, redistribution of plants, animals, plants, bacteria and viruses, floods, droughts, storms, sea level…
I would love for you to identify from which fossils these fuels are derived.
You need a class in sarcasm. Everybody knows Biden/Harris didn’t create the storms. Trump did. We also know that MTG does not believe Joos and dems control the weather. The damn Christians do!
Okay, I admit it. Now you admit it’s not because of man made global warming.
Good luck with that, L’Roy..
Bwaha!
Fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) are the are the remains of primarily plants from over 100 million years ago! Coal was from plants “fossilized”!! Gas and oil from microscopic forms from the oceans “fossilized” as they fell to the ocean floors. Heat and pressure in a low oxygen environment formed the hydorcarbons!! How would you name them?
Huge, destructive hurricanes back-to-back ARE CONSISTENT with the predictions of global warming. Can’t say they are, can’t say they aren’t.
Heat waves, floods, wildfires, droughts, tornadoes, hurricanes, sea level, melting ice sheets and glaciers, redistribution of plants (including crops), animals, fungi, bacteria and viruses.
Johnny-did that same climate change thing also cause there to be no Cat 3 storms or higher to hit the US from 2005 until 2017, the longest interval with no major hurricanes since the Civil War? You guys aren’t forgetting that, are you ?
Jilly,
The US makes up 1.9% of the globe’s area. You cherry pick Cat 3 storms hitting 1.9% of the Earth’s land mass.
Atlantic storms have increased over the years. So have Pacific storms.
Are you denying that the hot Gulf of Mexico leads to the rapid intensification of these storms?

You guys are bs a lot….

Shit-for-Brains,
You’re as ignorant about science as you are about history! As I recall, you were an engineer, which is “science adjacent”. I’ve worked with engineers before and they are sooo uncomfortable with uncertainty, which makes sense for building a bridge. I get it.
Scientists use terms like could, suggests, supports, is consistent with, may because results are always conditional! The hazard is that the ignorati use the potential for invalidation of a theory to deny the possibility. Even you should recognize that the difference between a 5% and 95% probability.
Has it really been proven that smoking causes cancer? Maybe smokers have other behaviors that cause cancer. Smokers have higher scores for neuroticism, anxiety, and lower scores for agreeableness, are associated with mental disorders like depression and schizophrenia, have lower conscientiousness, which could indicate a lack of self-discipline and disregard for long-term health risks.
The current information on Hurricane Milton suggests (maybe 90% probability) it will hit the Tampa area Wednesday night. Unfortunately, evacuation is an all-or-none action – either you leave or you don’t.
Is it certain that global warming is causing more powerful hurricanes? No! Is it likely? Of course, but how likely is the issue. It is known that warmer water fuels more powerful storms. The damn rotation of the Earth causes storm rotation!! But why are hurricanes exclusively northern hemisphere phenomena??
Chicken Little Karen Man
Scientists use terms like could, suggests, supports, is consistent with, may because results are always conditional!
No, results are not always conditional. Scientific Theories are decided by passing several tests, two of which are that they be testable and predictable.
What you have is a small “t” theory based on observations. Observational Theories are often associated with consensus because they cannot be tested and have failed predictions. History is full of them.
And even you must know about cyclones.
Shit-for-Brains,
No. You are wrong. Completely. There is no such thing as an Observational Theory. I won’t tell you again.
CO2 is casuing the Earth to warm. As predicted. The Theory is tested every day with thermometers and CO2 measurements. Sea levels are measured. Ice volumes are measured.
You are wrong. But then, you have shit for brains.
No, an atmospheric gas that has a concentration of 0.04% does not warm the earth. Yes, our world is changing but limiting CO2 will do nothing and global communism and carbon taxes will do nothing. When Trump gets in next year this issue will die.
No, you are wrong. Of course CO2 causes the Earth to warm. Stop lying.
Is it really fearmongering if it’s true? Cause it’s true. I’m here, I see it. And yes, leftist bureaucrats ARE fearmongering all over the place trying to fuk up the election no doubt.
It is you guys who coined “Never let a crisis go to waste” isn’t it?
LGB,
Trump is just telling lies. It’s what he does. He backed out of his 60 Minutes interview at the last minute because they wouldn’t agree to forgo fact-checking!
I don’t believe a word you say. Gov DeSantis says Florida is getting all the help they requested!
Trump said it. You believe it. That settles it…. You repeat it.
You’re a millionaire in bright red Florida. Why do you need the federal government (working class taxpayers) all over America to bail you out?
You sound like a communist to me.
Florida may be “getting the help it requested” but it isn’t getting all it needs.
What the hell has this got to do with the hurricane aftermath? Why do you always confuse issues?
You don’t believe a word I say because you don’t want to. You can’t admit the failure of your beloved administration. Just like they gave billions to importing and supporting illegals but no money for “working class taxpayers”.
You do realize I’m a firefighter and a EMS! How much more “working class” can a guy get you insolent snob. Plus, I’m here now with a bum leg and loosing my house, possessions and cars, coordinating supply plans for the other first responders. Who are you helping???
I come from a rich family which in your mind makes me unqualified for the very same benefits I paid into as an American taxpayer?
Sorry Charlie. That’s your (and your comrades on TV) daily repertoire of repeated lies and slogans we can see mornings on MSNBC, CNN, ABC, etcetera. I sort out the political bullshit I listen to. Sometimes even then I get things wrong but it happens.
You need to worry about your own wealth not mine. You need to worry about the customers/investors you are screwing not my net worth. My “rich” father, while trying to repair 12 of his own damaged properties, has sent down truckloads of supplies to help the Gulf coast here. What have you done????
You are always so quick to condemn others and never a good word. Just because I support Trump so all you have is hate.
Save us Kumala!
IPCC says no trend detected (AR6 WG1) heavy rain, river floods, political floods, landslides, agricultural droughts, ecological droughts, aridity, fire weather, wind storms, dust storms, hurricanes, snow cover, snow storms, glaciers, ice sheets, ice storms, hail, relative sea level, coastal floods, tornadoes, marine heatwaves, ocean acidity.
And it’s not just the land mass, but the total number of hurricanes. Depending on which source, the US ranks 3 or 4 in total number of hurricanes.
“Are you denying that the hot Gulf of Mexico leads to the rapid intensification of these storms?” And how did that same hot Gulf of Mexico affect storm intensification from 2005 to 2017?
Jl asks: how did that same hot Gulf of Mexico affect storm intensification from 2005 to 2017
The requirements for the formation of a tropical storm is warm, moist air, winds that aid the surface evaporatiion, the rapid updraft of moist air in the eye feeds the rain in spiral arms. The warmer the water, the higher the humidity, the more powerful the storm becomes.
Prevailing winds off Africa blow the storms westward toward the US. If they blow northward they tend to die out in the cooler waters, if they reach the Caribbean they can intesify under the right conditions. They can be steered and sheared by upper level winds, and by fronts.
So, the warmth of the water is not the only variable, and is necessary but not sufficient to generate a hurricane. Warmer upper level air can slow the formation, as can upper level shearing winds.
Hurricane Sandy in 2012 was “only” a Cat 1 storm when it finally made its US landfall in New Jersey. Sandy was the eighteenth named storm, tenth hurricane, and second major hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season (also Isaac). Most Atlantic hurricanes make a right turn and head out to sea, but the jet stream was blocked by high pressure system and Sandy made a left.
In fact, 12 hurricanes made landfall from 2006 to 2016. Yes, both 2005 (6) and 2017 (3) had multiple hurricanes.
