Hotcold Take: Climate Crisis (scam) Makes HIV Inequities Worse For Black Americans

Having watched this issue for decades, and the way lefties think, I can seriously see someone sitting around saying “black people have HIV, let’s drag in climate doom”

Climate Change Is Deepening HIV Inequities for Black Americans

As Hurricane Ida’s fierce winds ripped panels off of rooftops across New Orleans in September 2021, health workers and HIV activists braced for the aftermath. With power cut and roads blocked by debris, prescription refills and patients would be lost and forgotten in the storm’s chaotic wake across the South.

And with record-breaking hurricanes like Helene and Milton leading to hundreds of deaths and missing people earlier this fall across the Southeast, there is increasing fear that people living with HIV are losing the supportive services they need to stay alive because of climate change.

You know how they can stay alive? Do not have risky, unprotected sex with someone who has, or might have, HIV/AIDS, particularly within the gay male community. It’s literally one of the easiest diseases to not get.

Nationwide, half of people with HIV are living in places that are extremely vulnerable to extreme weather and climate disasters, according to a new analysis of federal disaster and health data from the Center for American Progress (CAP), a progressive policy think tank. Of the 48 counties that are most vulnerable to climate disasters and have high rates of HIV, 35 have an above-average share of Black residents.

And there you go, the hyper-Progressive CAP started this with their article. Weirdly, almost every one of these areas is Democratic Party run.

At the same time, a new study by Tulane University in New Orleans found that former racial segregation policies like redlining continue to impact these health outcomes today. Those living in once redlined neighborhoods across New Orleans experience 15% longer delays in accessing HIV-related care. Louisiana, where about 80% of people living with HIV are Black, has the nation’s third-highest rate of new cases.

New Orleans is run by Democrats, is in a low lying area, with some areas below sea level. Perhaps the city should be less concerned with climate (scam) doom and more concerned with why HIV is raging through their black population. The mayor is black, and 4 (maybe 5) of the 7 city council members are black. Why are they not telling their people the truth?

Morris Singletary, the founder of HIV education nonprofit The Pozitive2Positive Initiative, said this shows how the social factors that determine health outcomes, like racism or access to housing, “lead from one harm to another, to another, to another.”

None of that has any bearing on the weather or people having risky, unprotected sex.

With climate change intensifying the frequency and severity of natural disasters for people living with HIV, these events present significant health challenges dependent on several things like economic status and geography.

Weather disasters are not getting worse, and people living with HIV is mostly a self-caused disease. If you climb to the top of your roof on a rickety ladder and fall, that’s on you. The weather has nothing to do with it, nor does raaaaacism.

But why change an unhealthy lifestyle for free when you can get treatments that cost over $1,000/month, paid for by your insurance?

If black Americans contract HIV at significantly higher rates than the rest of the population, perhaps what should be asked is why that is.

Almost everyone knows how HIV is primarily transmitted. But the government, during the depths of the AIDS crisis, even though Ronald Reagan and later George Bush were in the White House, never told Americans not to f(ornicate) around with multiple people, never told Americans to find one partner and get married, and stay exclusive with your spouse, because, Heaven forfend! that might hurt some people’s precious little feelings!

Good news. It is no longer racist to ask it. It’s Climate change.

LGBTQ activists tried so hard to make AIDS a heterosexual epidemic, but it just never caught on.

Are we obligated to protect someone from their own choice of a lifestyle? The government needs to get out of Healthcare completely. I don’t recall that being one of the 8 enumerated powers.

Yes. Yes we are. Ever since AIDS got civil rights. A great deal of our medical privacy laws are about protecting gay patients and women from having to answer “How did you get that disease” or “who is the father”. No one cares about protecting your medical privacy about your shot records or broken bones. But medical community went out of their way to help keep gays in the closet and cover for women getting abortions.
