$1 Trillion in losses? Well, that money goes somewhere, so on net, it is a break even if other Americans are winning/collecting it. That’s a nice round number. The sort of number that activists come up with to scare the rubes. Oh, I agree that gambling is a sucker’s bet, that’s why I don’t do it. I understand math too well.
The sad fact is that people in poverty will always find ways to stay there. If it isn’t drugs or gambling, it will be hair extensions, fingernail salon visits, and fancy rims for their cars.
Gambling produces a small amount of entertainment and some demographics are more attracted to that particular form of entertainment than others. Do we as a society owe it to them to protect them from themselves or to protect their civil liberties to live the way they want, even if it is self destructive? I would settle on simply not using the public treasury to pay their rent when their pockets are empty from spending on amusements.

We Americans whine about egg and milk prices yet “invest” $120 BILLION a year in sports gambling. That’s more than we spend on the Veterans Healthcare system that Elon Musk deemed expendable.
Don’t smoke, don’t drink, don’t take drugs and don’t gamble. Use your money for other more important things. You will be richer or it.
