Looks Like Trump’s Picks Are Going To Clear The Senate

Well, really, for all the caterwauling and Credentialed Mediaing, the vast majority of GOP Senators were going to back Trump’s picks and protect them. Politico is noticing

Trump’s nominees are suddenly looking safer

A little over a month ago, President-elect Donald Trump’s top nominees appeared to be entering a world of pain.

HHS pick Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was facing tough questions about his stance on the polio vaccine. Would-be director of national intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was in the barrel over her dealings with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. And top Pentagon nominee Pete Hegseth suffered through mounting questions about his personal and professional life.

They were only in trouble with the Credentialed Media and Democrats, and maybe 2 ultra squishy Republicans

Now, with a whirlwind of confirmation hearings launching on Capitol Hill, Republicans are more confident than ever that they’ve gotten Trump’s personnel blitz back on track — thanks to a combination of hardball politics, appeals to GOP unity and lots of personal charm.

Most Republican senators “are predisposed to let the president have his team absent some extraordinary circumstances,” Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said on Monday.

The biggest question now for Senate Republicans isn’t who they will be able to confirm, it’s how long will it take to confirm them all. GOP leaders are warning senators to prepare for Friday votes or even weekend work in the coming weeks.

The votes will be along party lines for the most part. Collins and Murkowski could get squishy on some of the higher profile. Fetterman could flip on a few or more. Same with Mark Kelly. Otherwise, forget it. Republicans often flip to give a Democrat their picks, Dems won’t do it.

It’s already clear, however, that opposing any Trump nominee would come at a price to any Republican senator. The president-elect’s allies threatened to primary Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) after she indicated that she was undecided on supporting Hegseth; she later offered a more positive assessment. House firebrands have formed a chorus on the party’s right flank pushing Senate Republicans to unite behind all of Trump’s picks and confirm them quickly.

It’s amazing that Republicans always get so squishy while Democrats always rally.

What’s the difference between fact-checkers and fire departments?
Democrats will fund fact-checkers. As seen on X

Pete Hegseth was a United States Army officer, commissioned into the Minnesota National Guard following ROTC at Princeton.

During 2004–2005, his unit was called to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, under the operational control of the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, of the 101st Airborne Division, where he served as an infantry platoon leader and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.

In July 2005, Hegseth was again working as a capital markets analyst at Bear Stearns.

His next deployment lasted from 2005 to 2006. Shortly after returning from Cuba, Hegseth volunteered to serve in Baghdad and Samarra, Iraq, where he served first as an infantry platoon leader and later as civil-military operations officer. During his time in Iraq, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and a second Army Commendation Medal.

This is why the generals are so terrified of him. Mr Hegseth was an actual warfighter, and experienced all of the Mickey Mouse bovine feces and restrictive rules of engagement that soldiers face.

This makes him a perfect complement to President Trump! Mr Trump doesn’t like war, doesn’t like it at all, so if we get involved in a war, it’s not just some neocon bloviating, but a truly serious situation, the kind where restrictive rules of engagement are stupid. If we have a war under Mr Trump, the purpose of the United States Army is to kill the enemy and destroy their ability to fight. That’s the kind of Army Mr Hegseth would want to have.

Senator Jack Reed destroyed Peter. Hegseth bankrupted small veteran organizations, yet desires to manage the Dept of Defense. He opposes the Geneva Convention. He opposes women and gays in our military. He opposes Democrats in our military.

He’s a slick weekend host for FOX “News”, which is his most endeaaring quality for Big Donnie.

STOP! I already support the guy. You don’t need to hard sell it.

        • Elwood P Dowd says:

So you oppose women and men in out military? You oppose the Geneval Convention? Should we torture prisoners for information (or spite, or fun) even murdering them?

Thank goodness for the Capitol Police who are rapidly suppressing veteran protesters in the audience at Peter’s Senate hearing!!

No wonder they’re afraid of Hegseth.

The DOD splurged $6.1 million on lobster tails in September, over $3 million dollars more than it spent the same month in 2023,
    —-
The Pentagon also failed its seven consecutive audit in 2024, with the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2025 requiring the DOD to pass an audit by 2028, according to the report.

  5. Professor Hale says:

I just scanned through the NDAA for 2025 and found no mention of audits. Looks to me like Daily Caller just making stuff up.

As for Lobsters, it’s called “Food”. The DoD feeds your soldiers, sailors, and airmen a wide variety of edible things, not just baloney sandwiches. 2 million total uniformed people x 3 meals a day 3 365 days a year = a LOT of food.

  6. Elwood P Dowd says:

Peter Hegseth admitted to being drunk and having consensual sex with a married woman (in 2017… she said she was raped. Hegseth paid a settlement to her), while he was married to Mrs Hegseth 2, while having an affair with future Mrs Hegseth 3, whom he had impregnated. In his opening statement he credited the Lord Jesus and Mrs Hegseth 3 for his redemption, conveniently.

    • drowningpuppies says:

You might want to ask that White Christian wife of yours if she ever preaches about redemption.

      If it’s convenient.
