It’s a good start, though, this is making Democrats very upset (right up till the IRS audits them)
IRS layoffs expected to begin tomorrow, union official says
The IRS is expected to begin laying off employees tomorrow as part of the job cuts slicing through the federal government, a union official told workers Wednesday.
Though it could potentially disrupt tax-filing season, Shannon Ellis, a local union official, said in a video message that an indeterminate number of newer hires at the agency’s Kansas City facility will be let go.
Layoffs are also expected at other IRS facilities.
“We received notification today that employees in SB/SE who are on probation are scheduled for termination,” she said in a video message, referring to the agency’s Small Business/Self Employed Division.
In another video message, Ellis said: “Our probationary employees will be removed as of tomorrow — we don’t know what time, we don’t know how it’s going to happen, we don’t even know if it includes all of our probationary employees,” she said, adding probationary periods can be either one or two years from the time someone begins work.
OK, why would this effect tax season? These are new employees, not the ones already there. These are not replacements, for the most part. It’s just scaremongering from Democrats, who would have a completely different opinion if Trump sicced the IRS on them and their groups, right?
The IRS is especially vulnerable to the initiative because it has been on a hiring binge in recent years as part of a sweeping effort to improve services at the agency. Between 2021 and 2024, the workforce increased by one quarter, to more than 100,000.
“Improve service”. Funniest joke I’ve heard in months. We were told they would be hiring 86K to go after those icky rich folks. It’s a whole lot easier to say “one quarter in 3 years” than “yeah, we hired 25,000 employees in 3 years”, right? But, hey, here’s some pure Trump Derangement Syndrome along the same lines
(4 wackadoodle paragraphs to start)
This unprecedented sequence of events in the U.S. has left many observers in a daze, struggling to make sense of the dramatic reshaping of the bureaucracy under way.
Yet, as researchers on authoritarian politics, it is no surprise to us that a leader bent on expanding his own power, such as Trump, would see the bureaucracy as a key target. Here’s why.
Go that? Reducing the federal bureaucracy and whacking agencies, which Trump really has no intention of replacing, is going down the authoritarian route.
A well-functioning bureaucracy is an organization of highly qualified civil servants who follow established rules to prevent abuses of power. Bureaucracies, in this way, are an important part of democracy that constrain executive behavior.
Except, we do not have one. We have a politicized, unaccountable one which doesn’t respond to the people and thinks they are the lords of the people. Who spend taxpayer money however they so see fit, lord knows how much ends up in their own pockets and in the pockets of their cronies. We could keep going on, but, it’s just another case of moonbats manufacturing Reasons that Trump, who is attempting to reduce the power of the federal government on citizen’s lives, is the next Hitler.

Mr Fart of the Deal sure is sticking it to Russia for invading Ukraine, isn’t he? LOL. He gave his master Putin everything he wanted BEFORE negotiations even started!!
Maybe he’ll sweeten the deal by giving back Alaska! “Vlad, ya want Greenland? Canada? You name it, bruh! You killing those Ukrainian kids makes me look like a little pussy. The Gulf of Russia? The Putin Ocean? Huh? Huh? How does that sound to ya? Whadaya think? I can do it. I can do anything. Melania? Elon? Ivanka? They’re yours! Just tell me what to do!”
What, I have to ask, does the esteemed Mr Dowd believe we should do when it comes to Ukraine? We’ve given them scads of money and equipment, but the best they’ve been able to do is fight to a stalemate, something they were able to do even before Western aid began to arrive.
Now the Europeans are talking about giving them more money and equipment, but the Ukes’ bigger problem is manpower: they have men in their forties and fifties on the front lines, despite orders that no men between 18 and 60 can leave. There are a few women on the front lines.
President Zelenskyy’s stated war aim is not just to hold what the Ukes have now, but expel the Russians, not just from the territory they’ve gained since 2022, under President Joe Biden, but the eastern third of Ukraine that they seized in 2014, under President Barack Hussein Obama.
I’ve said it many times before, hare as well as on my own poor site, yet Mr Dowd has never responded to that: the only way Ukraine can break the stalemate is if the United States and/or Europeans send actual combat troops to Ukraine to fight the Russians . . . and that’s World War III! Perhaps our wise man from West of the Mississippi River can present us with a different plan, a different idea of how the Ukes could win, how they could achieve Mr Zelenskyy’s stated goals without escalating this to World War III. Perhaps he believes that sending in American and democratic European troops is worth the risk of this becoming WW3! Whatever it is, I do wish he’d tell us. But continuing to send money and equipment, as has been done for the last three years, only prolongs an unwinnable war, only keeps the blood flowing and buildings and infrastructure being destroyed, almost all of it in Ukraine.
Dana,
You have fallen for Neo-con propaganda.
1. There is no stalemate in Ukraine. The Russians are winning decisively on every front. The Ukrainians are not even managing to hold anywhere. They have run out of nearly everything, especially men, while the Russians have plenty of everything.
2. Ukrainians have mostly older men because they have already killed off their younger ones. Ukrainian losses are now over a million. The Ukrainian army that the West trained is dead and gone. The army that replaced them is also dead and gone. The people in the trenches now are what is left. The Biden/Harris/God-knows-who regime insisted that Ukraine start drafting 18 year-olds to replace manpower losses. You only need to do that IF YOU HAVE massive manpower losses.
3. NATO is an empty shell that is incapable of fighting the Russians because they have gutted themselves of munitions to supply the Ukrainians. No one has enough artillery ammo, or heavy rockets left. We already used it all and neither Biden nor our European “allies” were willing to spend enough money to replace it all. When they said they were going to massively increase defense spending, THEY LIED. Trump told them to increase their defense spending back in 2018 and they laughed at him.
4. All that money, arms, and equipment from NATO was insufficient to even hold the Russians back momentarily. Russia’s goal to demilitarize Ukraine, they accomplished by holding a defensive line for over a year and just ground away the Ukrainian defenders.
5. There is no metric for measuring progress in Ukraine where Russia is not decisively winning. When Trump acknowledges this, he isn’t “giving” Ukraine away. Russia has already taken it. Zelenskyy is delusional if he thinks there is any outcome that does not include Ukraine as a puppet state of Russia and Russia annexing the eastern third after this.
Only the Neocons want this war to continue. It was Biden’s war. Blundered into because Blinken, Rice and Nuland thought it was a good idea and didn’t care about how many millions would die. Democrats want this to be “Trump’s war” and “the war Trump lost”. Trump isn’t a neocon and doesn’t have a dog in that fight. Russia is not America’s natural enemy. There is no reason for us to not cooperate with each other on world affairs and totally cut out the smaller countries from decision making that results in such massive tragedy and waste.
The good Professor misunderstands me:
No, I haven’t. I presented a very unpalatable suggestion because I know that everyone will reject it: no one, least of all me, given that my older daughter is in the Army Reserve, wants to send American troops to fight in Ukraine, and I’m certain that a majority of the democratic Europeans feel the same way.
I note that the distinguished Mr Dowd, whom I personally challenged with my reply, hasn’t answered.
Russia is so powerful they had to recruit incompetent and cowardly North Koreans.
Russia is eager for peace and Trump is eager to capitalize on this. He tried to coerce Ukraine into France-Haiti type deal. He wants to reward Putin the War Criminal by encouraging economic development between Russia and Trump Inc… er… America. Donnie wants to drop the crippling economic sanctions.
If Putin has already won the invasion why would he now want peace? Donnie can stop all US support of Ukraine and let Putin waltz in.
Trump claims to be the world’s greatest negotiator, so let him negotiate for Ukraine, not Russia.
Should the West (US + Europe) stop all support of Ukraine and look the other way?
Hey, the laid off federal no-longer-employees should have no problem finding jobs, with the illegals having abandoned so many of them!
Or they could transfer to ICE and assist expelling unwanted immigrants.
At least your parents got your first name right Elwood. I also noticed that in TYPICAL Liberal fashion, ALL accusation and NO solution. Why not stick to something you’re actually suited for? Making memes of Trump with a little moustache.
Don’t fire all those IRS people, they work for us now. Re-direct them to go after all those non-profits that are shams, like Al Sharpton, Clinton Family Foundation, Catholic Charities (traffickers of illegals), other progressive non-profits which are shams, just like Lois Lerner did for the Dems. IRS caught Hunter and they can get us some payback. Fire those who won’t get with the program.
You mean like these…
