Democrats seek to probe Musk conflicts and DOGE firings with resolutions of inquiry in the House
Democrats on the House Oversight Committee are introducing a pair of resolutions demanding the Trump administration turn over documents and information about billionaire adviser Elon Musk’s potential conflicts of interest and the firings of federal workers, The Associated Press has learned.
It’s the most aggressive move yet by Democrats trying to confront President Donald Trump’s actions. The top Democrat on the panel, Rep. Gerald Connolly of Virginia, and Rep. Rep. Kweisi Mfume of Maryland are leading the effort as the party mounts a resistance against the Trump-Musk dismantling of government.
The resolutions of inquiry would launch investigations into Trump’s Republican administration and Musk through the Oversight panel. If the Republican-led committee fails to act, which is likely, the Democrats could push the resolutions to a House floor vote in a matter of weeks.
These are votes that the Republicans should allow, because, they will fail, and they will highlight Democrats as being the party of Big Government.
“President Trump, Elon Musk, and the DOGE team have been on a rampage to purge the government of non-partisan public servants and install political loyalists willing to turn a blind eye to corruption and grift,” said a fact-sheet accompanying the resolution from Mfume, the ranking Democrat on the panel’s subcommittee on Government Operations, probing the firing of federal workers.
They’re not so much installing loyalists (um, hey, Politics 101? Obama and Biden sure fired a lot of high end people and replaced them with loyalists) as just firing deadwood. Just wait till we get to the point where there are criminal investigations into defrauding the federal government.
The resolution seeking information about the firing of federal workers would require the administration to provide documents, meeting notes, phone, mail and text records, and other information regarding:
“Each Federal employee placed on administrative leave, removed due to a reduction in force action, terminated, transferred, or reassigned to another department on orders, advice, or recommendation of Elon Musk, any individual considered to be a member of a DOGE agency team, or any official or unofficial member of the United States DOGE Service.”
Say, wouldn’t that violate federal privacy laws for those terminated employees? These Democrat politicians are concerned about worker cut-backs and losing allies in the Perpetual, and unaccountable, Bureaucracy. But, their concerns are not over excessive government waste or patronage jobs, distributed like parade candy. Sending taxpayer money overseas for idiotic things while Americans are suffering. Or how a fraction of the money makes it for the stated purpose, instead, getting pocketed as it passes through the hands of all the NGOs and private groups.

Our friends on the left just don’t get it: serious cuts in government spending are exactly what conservatives, and even some liberals want. What the Sultan from South Africa has done is to reveal just how much idiocy has been rampant in government spending. The FY2024 federal deficit was $1.3 trillion — or was it $1.7 trillion? I’m too lazy to look it up again — and that’s money we are borrowing from wealthy people and countries like China, all of which will have to be paid back by the taxpayers, with interest, to fund stupidity far from our shores.
Then we have federal workers, outraged and appalled, that they have to report what actual work they’ve been doing on the taxpayers’ dollars, when most of us had to actually do our jobs and produce, or we were joining the unemployment line. The vast majority of people who’ve had to work for a living are not at all amused that federal employees do not like the idea that they have to be accountable for their own job performance.
The miracle worker from Mar-a-Lago and the savant from South Africa — and I do so love my alliterations! — have not used a delicate, fine-toothed comb in all of this, but have taken a battleaxe to the problem, which is just what is needed. Cut out as much as possible, and then see if there are things which should be restored.

The FY2025 deficit is projected to be $1.9 TRILLION. Mr Trump added $7.8 TRILLION to the debt his first 4 years, a record!!
To be fair he did have to contend with the Trump plague, including signing TRILLIONS in deficit spending to prop up the people.
Will Musk’s DOGE efforts balance the budget as Trump alleged? Collect your $MELANIA meme coins if you believe that. BTW, DOGE’s current budget is already $40 million.
Trump’s “hope” is that his tariffs (a consumption tax on Americans) will help fill Treasury coffers. He has few choices.
1) He can raise taxes on the working class – very, very unpopular – but he’s disguising this as “tariffs” – the “most beautiful word” in the language! He believes he’s forcing China, Mexico and Canada pay off our debt!
2) He can cut spending, but over 80% of spending is for Defense/Veterans, Social Security, Interest, Medicaid and Medicare. His highly touted ending of USAID cut less than 1% of spending. The House budget adds Defense spending. Where are the cuts to come from?
3) He could increase taxes on the super wealthy. After WWII, the top marginal income tax rate was 94% and we paid off the huuuge WWII debt, built highways, schools, universities, the world’s greatest middle class, airports, bridges, dams, homes, libraries etc.
The current top marginal rate is 37% on all over $731,200 ‘earned’ by a married couple. The TCJA is set to expire and if it’s renewed it will reduce US receipts by $4.5 TRILLION over 10 years.
After those ‘super wealthy’ bastards pay 94% this year what will be left to pay next year? BTW, don’t fool yourself very few paid anywhere near 90%. They had loop.holes, tax shelters and deductions en mass or those railroads etc. would never be there.
