Credentialed Media Shocked The Border Is Quiet

Will they come to the right conclusion as to why the border is rather quiet now?

California-Mexico border, once overwhelmed, now nearly empty

When the humanitarian aid workers decided to dismantle their elaborate tented setup — erected right up against the border wall — they hadn’t seen migrants for a month.

A year earlier, when historic numbers of migrants were arriving at the border, the American Friends Service Committee, a national Quaker-founded human rights organization, came to their aid. Eventually the group received enough donations to erect three canopies, where it stored food, clothing and medical supplies.

But migrant crossings have slowed to a near halt, bringing a striking change to the landscape along the southernmost stretch of California.

Shelters that once received migrants have closed, makeshift camps where migrants waited for processing are barren, and nonprofits have begun shifting their services to established immigrants in the U.S. who are facing deportation, or migrants stuck in southern Mexico.

Meanwhile, the Border Patrol, with the assistance of 750 U.S. military troops, has reinforced six miles of the border wall with concertina wire.

So, wait, all those things worked? I wonder who shut the border down and who left it open?

Border Patrol agents in the San Diego sector are now making about 30 to 40 arrests per day, according to the agency. That’s down from more than 1,200 per day during the height of migrant arrivals to the region in April.

So, 30 times less in just this sector, which already had a border wall up.

In May 2023, the Biden administration ended a pandemic-era policy under which migrants were denied the right to seek asylum and were rapidly returned to Mexico. In the leadup to the policy change, migrants descended on the border by the thousands.

Whoa. The LA Times uses the most Biden friendly way of saying that he opened the floodgates. But, he did it for humanitarian reasons, you know! He didn’t care about US citizens, but, he loves him some poor migrants (who spend thousands to tens of thousands to come to America from all over the world, including Islamic terrorists.

Stalnaker said federal prosecutors in San Diego had also accepted more than 1,000 border-related criminal cases this fiscal year. And following Trump’s tariff threats, Mexico vowed to send 10,000 National Guard troops to its northern border. Those troops now meet with U.S. agents a few times a week and conduct synchronous patrols on their respective sides of the border, Stalnaker said.

Oh, look, they finally mention Trump, the president who shut it down.

Farther east, Jacumba Hot Springs was once the site of additional open-air camps, where hundreds of migrants slept on plastic tarps (or in tents, if they were lucky) and huddled around campfires fueled by brush to stay warm.

Sam Schultz, a retired international relief worker who has lived near Jacumba for nine years, once made daily deliveries of water, hot meals and blankets to migrants there. When the camps popped up a few miles from his home, he felt compelled to help.

All these people and their groups are very upset that they are no longer getting tons of taxpayer money to help all the fake asylum seekers destroying America’s small towns. How much was used for payroll?

Immigrant Defenders Law Center, headquartered in Los Angeles, served migrants who were bused there from the border by the Texas governor; the group also provided legal help to those waiting in Tijuana for appointments with Customs and Border Protection. After his inauguration, President Trump quickly canceled existing appointments and ended use of a phone application used by the Biden administration to schedule them.

Finally, another mention of the guy who significantly reduced illegal immigration. Anyhow, there sure are lots of groups meant to help the fake asylum seekers/illegals, all getting government money, eh? Anyhow, it’s amazing what Trump was able to do without any sort of absurd legislation from Congress, right? It’s like the laws were already there.

Mr Teach again hoping to trigger his hapless followers – the media are “shocked” he said!!

    LOL

In the mean time Florida GOPhers are revising the child labor laws to permit kids to take the place of the deported ag workers. This is America.

Apparently demlibs value illegal criminals’ “rights” over the safety of children, at least in Gov. Maura Healy’s Massachusetts.

    – Guatemalan charged w/ 3 counts of aggravated child rape released on $7,500 bail. (ICE detainer ignored).

    – Guatemalan charged w/ aggravated child rape, (victim age 9 or below) released on $7,500 bail. (ICE detainer ignored).

    – Honduran charged w/ assault to rape & masked armed robbery released on his own recognizance with $0 bail. (ICE detainer ignored)

    – Worcester County had two illegal alien inmates charged w/ child rape who both received $500 bails.

    – Another was charged w/ fentanyl trafficking and released on $4,000 bond before ICE could arrive.

In the US, it’s estimated that 20% of girls and 5% of boys are victims of sexual assault and sexual abuse. Almost all the perpetrators are US citizens. We need to do a better job.

Note too that it’s likely most cases are unreported.

Should the US make stopping this a priority or continue to ignore the epidemic?

    • Dana says:

More whataboutism from west of St Louis! Conservatives agree that more should be done to fight child sexual abuse, but that more should be done there does not somehow mean we should be more lax on border enforcement.

Much of my series “You in a heap o’ trouble, boy” concerns child sexual abuse and child pornography. And it seems that the greatest number of malefactors in these cases are public school teachers. I have said that the appropriate sentence is life in prison without the possibility of parole.

    • fp says:

And far too many of the perpetrators work for the public school system as teachers. Teachers exposing minors to lewd, obscene, explicit and pornographic material (“Gender Queer: A Memoir”) is against the law.

You’re right. We need to do a better job. And it starts by not continuing to ignore, downplay, or demonize those who point out the epidemic in the public school system.

In 2022 the majority of perpetrators were white. Do you believe they were Europeans overstaying their visas or could they have been white citizens?

I’ve seen the mugshots of the criminals they called “white.”

You’re going to have to do a lot better than that.

Our 46th President told us that we needed the (purportedly) bipartisan immigration reform bill to take care of the illegal immigration problem, and then blamed our 45th President for its failure to pass.

Then, shazamm!, our 45th President became our 47th President, and without that (purportedly) bipartisan immigration bill being passed, our 47th President was able to greatly reduce the number of people attempting to come to this country, has significantly increased the number of illegal immigrant apprehensions and started sending them south of the border, visas are being revoked for Hamas sympathizers who’ve disrupted college campuses and seized buildings, and even The New York Times is covering ‘self-deportation’ of illegals.

And all of this, in just 70 days in office, and without the congressional action our 46th President said he needed to do anything.

What would the bill have done?

The bill would force the Department of Homeland Security to shutter the border if daily illegal crossings top 5,000 migrants on average or 8,500 in a single day. Unaccompanied minors from countries other than Mexico and Canada wouldn’t count toward that total.

The administration could only reopen the border if encounters of illegal crossings drop to 75 percent of the number that initially triggered the closure.

DHS would also have the power to shut down the border if crossings average more than 4,000 a day for a week, and Biden has signaled he would aggressively use that authority.

Yet, without the bill, the Department of Fatherland Security has been trying to shutter the border if daily illegal crossings top zero migrants on average or zero in a single day.

It was never an insufficiency in the law; it was an insufficiency in the will to enforce the law.

On immigration, President Biden failed, failed spectacularly, while President Trump is succeeding. It’s early in his term, and anything can happen, but at least so far, he has succeeded far beyond anything that most people suspected could happen.

    • Elwood P Dowd says:

Constructing a bubble over the US is not immigration reform.

      • fp says:

So what? Immigration reform is meaningless duckspeak. Immigration enforcement is what we need.

Studies show enforcement works every time it’s tried.

      • Dana says:

        The distinguished Mr Dowd wrote:

Constructing a bubble over the US is not immigration reform.

Actually, it is, because reducing immigration to zero or close to zero is reform; it’s just not the kind of immigration reform you’d like to see.

I have previously suggested the kind or immigration reform we really need, immigration controls which admit only those fully vetted, with clean records in their home countries, being legally married, heterosexually married, for at least a few years, with a solid record of attendance at church, positive toward Western civilization, and an attitude that if it cannot be proven that the applicants have those virtues, we should assume that they do not, and exclude them. We need and want immigrants who would be positive contributors to our economy and our communities.

Mr Dowd did not care for those suggestions, which begs the question: does he want single male immigrants of prime crime-committing ages, or immigrants who want to tear down Western civilization and replace it with some sort of barbarian system?
