Your daily dose of climate loony tunes. Paul Rogat Loeb is concerned about the “Republicans war on reality,” which is a real hoot considering the liberals belief that 9/11 was an inside job, Bush stole the election, socialist economies are great, government health care won’t lead to rationing, etc and so on
On the side of the skeptics you have a handful of scientists funded by Exxon, the coal companies, the Koch Brothers and other corporate sponsors who want to maintain business as usual. They claim the jury’s still out, and do this in a year when a fifth of Pakistan was flooded, when Russians fled Moscow because runaway forest fires made the air impossible to breathe, and when much of the US suffered both record temperature levels and extreme weather events like massive floods, tornadoes and ice storms.
Ad hominem attacks about Big Oil and Big Coal and stuff? Check. Blaming weather events (all of which have happened for hundreds of million of years) on global warming? Check. Blaming global warming for ice storms? Check. I suppose this is caused by global warming, too
- Ski Season Begins Early In Europe
- Cold weather in Hanoi, buffaloes freeze to death in Sapa
- Mt. Hood resorts opening some lifts for Halloween skiers – It’s only the fourth time since 1984 that Timberline will be open before Halloween
Just a few years ago, we would have been told that cold weather was just weather. Nowadays it will be blamed on “climate change” from Mankind’s release of greenhouse gases. These people who push this and believe this are just nuts.
I am amazed that they didn’t blame Fox news. That is usually included with the oil companies, etc.
I love how they go from “Global Warming” to “climate change”. That is brilliant that way whatever the Change in weather is can be blamed on the right wing.
I’m going to write a book “The Climate is supposed to change ya Jackwagon!”
hahahahaaa Tobias.
Well, Teach, at least many of these insane people will be all in one place today.
Teach did that have any RECORD COLD temps? becuase I don’t see anything like that in the links. The temp in Sapa fell to 50 F which is hardly unusual. It will go to almost freezing there. How about any RECORD HIGH TEMPS ?? Well Tuscon had a record high on Fri. 0f 94.Alexandria VA had a record break for high temps on the 25th as did Orlando
AND HEY TEACH what about this ??? didn’t Raleigh just have a record breaker too ? Last week ? Could you tell us a bit about THAT? Isn’t that a lot closer to you than say Mt Hood or Vietnam ?
And you know when I google for record cold TEMPS ( as opposed to early snowfall) I don’t see much? What’s up with that ?
Do you think that maybe the record high temps in Raleigh were because of AGW, ooops I mean urban iheat island” ?
of course in the 60s and 70s it was much more common for Timberline to open in Oct, but then it began getting warmer and now it is a rarity thanks for pointing it out for us Teach
Hmmm… probably because it WAS COLDER during the 60’s and 70s than after. Remember today’s scientist, pontificating back then, were fearing a new ice age.
Growing up during that time, I remember tons and tons of snow each and every year during Oklahoma’s winter months. Then, we had a warming trend and there were many years with either no snow or very very little.
And now, over the last few years, our snow-fall totals have increased again.
Weird how climate change changes.
Wow, Captainfish, similar cylcle here in PA. Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s, we had snow falls and drifts we could build igloos in, that would not melt-even stick around for weeks! As my children were coming into the world in the late 70’s and 80s, we had a few big snow storms, but no winter long events. Then mild winters set in with only a few bad winters in the late 80’s. Summers have been about the same as always, but over my lifetime none were any hotter than when I was a kid.
All of that and discussions with parents and relatives older than I, about their lifetimes of weather events have led me to believe in weather as a naturally occurring thing. I know, it’s pretty crazy, and I didn’t even have to go to school to figure it out. But I do hope that this process never stops; I love weather and seasonal changes and never knowing how the climate will change year in and out!
I remember having great snow growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. And the parents had stories of great snow in the 40’s-60’s. Dad had a fun time in South Korea when it was cold as snot (deployed right after the armistice was signed). Funny how CO2 levels we continuing to tend upward at the same time it was getting, you know, cold. Weird that, eh, John?
Yeah, I totally and completely admire our fighting men during the world wars and the Korean battles. Talk about fighting in some of the worst imaginable conditions possible with the least amount of protection.
Think about what our forefathers used to protect themselves against the DAMNED-bitter cold during the Revolutionary War!!! Nothing. Many had on less clothes than what you probably wore to work today.
My heroes one and all. I despise any and all politician who spits on their memory and calls them murderers. I despise how PATHETIC our VA system is. How INEPT and clogged our care centers are. If anyone should have universal health care (the right kind – without limits to expenses) then it is our fighting men and women.
Sorry to go off topic…. hehe
