The Politico Wonders “Where’s Waldo, Er, Obama?”

The Politico finally catches up with the rest of America in playing “Where’s Walbama?” Most of us noticed this back around February 1, 2009, when Obama started outsourcing all the things he wanted done to Congress, and spent time partying and playing sports. He talked about creating jobs, but rarely got his own hands dirty. He talked about this and that progressive agenda, then ticked off his far left base by then doing nothing. And then he talked about jobs, and did nothing. When something important happened, Obama tended to finally discuss it several days to two weeks later. Japan has a massive natural disaster? Offer prayers, then go play golf and head to the Gridiron dinner. Uprisings in the Arab world? He’ll get to ya. And now the Politico has

President Obama staying in background on deficits

That’s a nice way of saying “Obama does something else while deficit burns.” Or, “where the hell is the president?”

When President Barack Obama opened the first meeting of his fiscal commission last April, he promised to be “standing with them” as they produced recommendations for curbing the nation’s escalating debt.

Republicans and Democrats say they are still waiting.

While Obama has said he’s committed to deficit reduction, he has also has made clear it is secondary, at least for now, to his “winning the future” agenda. And that reflects a strategy driven by what his senior aides believe voters care about most — jobs, not deficits.

And he is, and has been, mostly absent on jobs, too.

But until House Republicans join their Senate GOP counterparts in appearing open to raising revenues, the administration is reluctant to weigh in too heavily, believing that a grand bargain that would inflict bipartisan pain will be difficult to attain

In other words, until the House GOP appears ready to raise taxes and fees, so Obama can Blame Them, he’ll putter around. And with all the important legislation going on in Washington, with all that is going on in the world, what does Obama want?

After the Senate deadlocked last week over how to cut billions from the budget, Obama on Monday called for a rewrite of the federal education law — and made a full-throated pledge to shield education from the budget knife.

“I’m determined to cut our deficits. But I refuse to do it by telling students here who are so full of promise that we’re not willing to invest in your future,” Obama said during a visit to Kenmore Middle School in Arlington, Va. “I’m not willing to tell these young people right here that their education isn’t a priority.”

That’s right, he’s now stuck on No Child Left Behind and educational reform, a matter of such extreme importance that no one else is talking about it. He has several interviews set up this morning (no press allowed) to talk about NCLB. He did something similar Monday morning.

All in all, Obama is the kid sitting in the back row listening to disco, while everyone else is jamming to heavy metal. Disco may be pleasant to the ear, but, no one else cared. (Did I just seriously date myself as a child of the late 70’s/early 80’s?)

More: Having solved America’s economic woes, stopped the nuclear problems in Japan, and deposed Ghadafi, Obama took time to fill out his NCAA brackets on film.
