Was she joking, or, was this simply a matter of speaking off the cuff and coming out with a gaffe? Remember, in Democrat World, a gaffe is when a lefty says what they really think. Anyhow, the liberal leaning Raleigh News and Observer tries to go with the “just joking” route
Speaking to a Cary Rotary Club today, N.C. Gov. Bev Perdue suggested suspending Congressional elections for two years so that Congress can focus on economic recovery and not the next election.
“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that,” Perdue said. “You want people who don’t worry about the next election.”
The comment — which came during a discussion of the economy — perked more than a few ears. It’s unclear whether Perdue, a Democrat, is serious — but her tone was level and she asked others to support her on the idea. (Read her full remarks below.)
Later Tuesday afternoon, Perdue’s office clarified the remarks: “Come on,” said spokeswoman Chris Mackey in a statement. “Gov. Perdue was obviously using hyperbole to highlight what we can all agree is a serious problem: Washington politicians who focus on their own election instead of what’s best for the people they serve.”
Well, perhaps Bev should tell that to Obama, who is more concerned, and has always been more concerned, with himself and staying in elected office over what is best for the American people in reality, rather than as a classroom exercise.
“Now is a time when politicians need to be held accountable more than ever. To suspend an election would be removing the surest mechanism that people have to hold politicians accountable: the right to vote. Does the Governor not believe that people of North Carolina have the ability to think for themselves about whether or not the actions of elected officials are working?” said GOP spokesman Rob Lockwood.
Democrats would love to suspend the Congressional elections: they know they are going to lose the Senate, and may well lose even more House seats.
Sister Toldjah is willing to give Bev the benefit of the doubt that Bev’s an idiot….OK, everything after “doubt” was me
Bryan Preston notices that the local Raleigh media is spinning for Bev.
Ace: How can you have a revolution against the (moronic) wishes of the people if god-damned elections keep getting in the way?
This is actually a great idea. I can’t think of anything that would get the revolution going any faster than this concept. We are headed that way as it is and we might as well get it done.
Dem Gov Proposes Canceling Elections Her Party Is Sure To Lose…
Not, that I think that even a president as venal and incompetent as Obama would try such a move, but I cannot help but find it rather troubling that we should begin hearing such proposals out of Democrat leaders. Speaking to a Cary rotary club today, N…
I concur.
[…] said. Way to go Governor. Now you sound just like a Marxist. Update;Â Over at Pirate’s Cove, William Teach has some more derisive words for Governor […]
More of a democrat controlled congress? No thanks.
I think she is looking at another bloodbath in the Congress and that is why she wants an election put off.
I noticed the spin in that article right away – the headline was an outright lie, and the first paragraph says file it in random things politicians say?
Suspending elections, when you are a year away from an election, is ‘random’?
Your time in office grows short, Governor.
[…] William Teach reminds us: Was she joking, or, was this simply a matter of speaking off the cuff and coming out with a gaffe? […]
Only thing worse would be her dissing vinegar based barbecue.
Here’s an idea; maybe Perdue should suspend her involvement in any future elections. I promise not to hold it against her.
I’d be interested in hearing just exactly how this would be implemented, obviously there isn’t time to amend the constitution. Does Obama just declare a state of emergency?
This was called for recently. I can’t recall who and when, but I do remember that it was brought up prior to 2010 elections. And it was by the Dems of course.
Oh yeah… they were referring to Obama! Amazing that.
“dissing vinegar based barbecue.”
OMG. now that is just nasty disgusting stuff. Why not just add lye and wash the dishes while you are at it.
Now, put up some good old fashioned black-molasses BBQ sauce that can stick to your food, your fingers, your gut, and let you remember how most awesomeness that big pile of ribs were. mmmmmmmm
How long does your fire last when you pour that watery vinegar sauce on your grill?
Sad. Just sad. Good thing we have elections to get these vinegar-lovin liberals out of there!!!
