The freakshow continues
(LA Times) Reporting from Perry, Iowa— Defending himself against charges of isolationism, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul told voters in Iowa on Thursday that western sanctions against Iran are “acts of war” that are likely to lead to an actual war in the Middle East.
Paul, one of the leading contenders to win next week’s Iowa caucuses, said Iran would be justified in responding to the sanctions by blocking the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz. He compared the western sanctions to a hypothetical move by China to block the Gulf of Mexico, which Americans would consider an act of war.
He also said he would not respond militarily to keep the strait open—because he would not consider it an act of war against the U.S. But if he were president, he would report to Congress on the issue, leaving it up to lawmakers to declare war if they wanted.
“I think we’re looking for trouble because we put these horrendous sanctions on Iran,” Paul told a midday audience at the Hotel Pattee in Perry, Iowa. He said the Iranians are “planning to be bombed” and understandably would like to have a nuclear weapon, even though there is “no evidence whatsoever” that they have “enriched” uranium.
Essentially, Paul is saying that everything is the fault of the United States, the country he wants to, you know, lead.

Libertarians are very much like progressives in their own vein.
In the democratic party you had classical liberals and a party of liberals who have been usurped by progressivism that wraps itself and entertwines itself in liberalism until the two cannot be seperated.
Today we have the GOP which is conservative but there is the libertarian movement afoot which has been actively trying to entertwine itself into the GOP by its claims of conservativism.
Every bit as much as the democratic party has been transformed into progressive nirvana……..
so too does the libertarians wish to transform the GOP into a libertarian nirvana. The plan is the same. Progressives claim to be liberals…….libertarians claim to be conservatives and then…..
They BOTH redefine those terms so that to be accepted into their clubs you must be either progressive or libertarian.
Its not sinister….it is just what is happening.

I think you are confusing the conservative viewpoint that the government should stay within its Constitutionally mandated framework and the libertarian viewpoint of “we are our own framework.”

Im not confusing anything. What I am simply saying is that the GOP is being infiltrated by libertarians who want to cloak themselves in the security of the GRAND OLD PARTY and use it for their own message…..
essentially changing the old message from the one you pointed out to the one you pointed out is the libertarian message….they are similar….one is just more excessive then the other…..

This was the old democratic party.
It is now gone…..Replaced by a party that wants more and more and more government. Who wants to nanny state us….who wants to dictate even what to eat and how to breath……
That is progressivism that is overwhelming the Democratic party….gone is true liberalism.
Just as the Conservatives of the GOP are slowly having their conservative message diluted with new and differing view points…first their were the social conservatives and now there are the libertarian conservatives…..
In the United States, the conservative coalition was an unofficial Congressional coalition bringing together the conservative majority of the Republican Party and the conservative, mostly Southern, wing of the Democratic Party. It was dominant in Congress from 1937 to 1963 and remained a political force until the mid 1980s, eventually dying out in the 1990s.
A few years before his death he went so far as to address the unprincipled establishment “republicans”, “Do not associate my name with anything you do. You are extremists, and you’ve hurt the Republican party much more than the Democrats have.
Barry Goldwater was a libertarian and Reagan took much of Goldwater’s ideals and reshaped them into a more conservative message that embraced a lot more people…..
Big tent conservativism….however if you look at the results of the Goldwater run for presidency you will see a MASSIVE defeat of not only Goldwater but of ALL Republicans running everywhere….
The country rejected libertarianism then and it rejects it today……..
But despite all of that libertarians persist in trying to control the message and the party……

Ron Paul is a libertarian..
His son Paul from KY is a libertarian….all running as GOP’ers…..it does not take rocket science to see what is happening to the party……..
It only takes people opening their eyes and looking around to realize what the goals of the libertarians are…..
Not a new party…..just a remade GOP.

Conservatives end within the Constitution.
We have been at war with Iran for 30 years. About time we started knocking off a few of the bastards, ain’t it?
