Bumped to Friday
I wonder why we did not hear anything about this from those on the Left. No protests, no marches, no rhetoric, no petitions, nothing (From Yahoo News)
Three Christian militants were executed by firing squad early Friday for leading attacks on Muslims six years ago that left 70 people dead, a police official and local media said.
The men were taken before the firing squad at 12:15 a.m. (2:15 p.m. EDT Thursday), said a senior police officer who asked not to be identified because he wasn't authorized to speak to the media. Metro TV and SCTV had similar reports, but did not identify their sources.
Fabianus Tibo, 60, Marinus Riwu, 48, and Dominggus da Silva, 42, were found guilty of leading a Christian militia that launched a series of attacks in May 2000 — including a machete and gun assault on an Islamic school where dozens of men were seeking shelter.
Really, if they did it, and that was the penalty, then so be it. Religion be damned, the consequences of ones actions should be paid in full.
But, can you imagine if they were Muslims? The Left would be all over this, decrying the use of the death penalty. Marching, singing, candlelight vigils, the whole gamut.
But, the penalties were not equitable, as fitting in a predominantly Muslim country
Human rights workers say the men's 2001 trial was a sham, and that while it was possible the men took part in some of the violence, they almost certainly were not the masterminds. Others note that only a handful of Muslims were punished in connection with the violence, all sentenced to 15 years in jail or less.
Typical. Also typical
Thousands of Christians rallied peacefully in at least seven towns Thursday. Muslim protesters also have taken to the streets in recent weeks, demanding the men be killed following two last-minute stays, the most recent just more than a month ago.
Christians marching peacefully, Muslims calling for death. If the people who were put to death were Muslims, do you think their demonstrations would have been peaceful?
Friday update:
Well, I'll admit I was a little bit wrong (from Yahoo News)
Christian mobs torched cars, blockaded roads and looted Muslim-owned shops in violence touched off by Friday's executions of three Roman Catholics convicted of instigating attacks on Muslims.
Some 200 inmates escaped after mobs assaulted a jail in the town of Atambua, sending guards fleeing to the nearby jungle. By midday only 20 had been recaptured, deputy national police chief Lt. Gen. Adang Dorodjatun said, calling on the others to turn themselves in.
And on the island of Flores, the executed men's birthplace, machete-wielding mobs ran through the streets Friday, sending women and children running in panic, police and witnesses said.
I highlight this not to show that I was wrong (I was), but for two reasons.
The first is to complete the story. Of course, there could be more coming.
Second, and more importantly, to highlight the way Christians are treated in the media. Can you imagine the MSM discussing violence by Muslims against Christians in such a manner? I can't. Because they do not highlight rioting by Muslims, only hintimating it, much less Muslim against Christian. They barely mentioned how many of the rioters were Muslim when they were rioting, buring cars, buildings, etc in France, nor when they were going wonkadoodle over the Mohammed cartoons and the supposed Koran flushing incident.
