Well, at least one
(Freep) Ambling down the block a couple of weeks ago with his 1-year-old daughter perched on his shoulders, Antwaun Asberry sensed something was behind him.
He turned around and spotted a tall creature that appeared to be a cat, only a lot bigger.
“His tail is longer than my arm,†Asberry, a 6-foot-5 Detroiter with a lanky build, said of the cat. “I was like, what the (expletive) … I don’t know what it is. I just want it gone.â€
So do other residents in the northeast Detroit neighborhood, who said they’re unnerved by this supersize cat roaming the streets in recent weeks. They’ve tried calling Detroit police and Animal Control, but have gotten no response. On Friday, the Michigan Humane Society said it will investigate the case and try to find the cat.
First there were tons of feral cats. Then packs of dogs. Now a Big Cat, which many in the comments think might be a Serval or Ocellot, based on the photo at the story link. And the comments get funny

Fortunately, Detroit has plenty of resources to deal with the issue, except for the dwindling police manpower and needing to use it to stop car thefts and carjackings.

I had not seen a pic taken before. You’d think that if anyone had ever gone to a zoo, they might know what this was. I agree, it looks alot like an Ocelot. I’m betting that due to it not attacking people and being fairly calm around people, that it used to be someone’s backyard pet. It got loose or escaped.
These cats are normally S. Central or S. American, right?
Detroit, flushed with money, shouldnt have a problem finding officers to quickly handle this situation.

NAH, That is just a cat from the Rewilding Institute’s Northern Jaguar Project.
They have been caught red handed with a pair of black -melanistic Jaguars in the back of a pick-up ready for release in North Carolina. Of course Officials all claim the sightings are not big cats. link But don’t tell that to my husband who saw a cat larger than our Great Pyrenees. The cat leap from one side of the road to the other without setting foot on the pavement right in front of the pick-up. Don’t tell that to the people at the local feed store who also saw the cat. Charles Humprhey states that there are over 500 sightings in North Carolina and one-half of these were coal black panthers. link
