Happy Friday. I did an upgrade to WordPress this morning, and the automatic installation program messed a few things up, most on the backend where you can’t see it.
However, I just noticed that comments are not posting. My apologies. Not sure how soon that will be fixed, I’m waiting to hear from Steamboat.
Update: the comments may be fixed. The comments dot php file was missing. I have a fresh copy of WP 3.8 downloaded, and added the file.
Anyone else see any issues? I’m left with three issues. First, there is abnormal latency in loading posts. Second, the WP Dashboard formatting is messed up, it’s like some script links are missing. And for the New Post module, multiple scripts are missing, ones that are rather necessary. But those same scripts work fine for an existing post, even if it is a draft. In order to create a new post, I have to go through a few hoops. I just do not know what is missing.
What I’d like to do is revert back to the previous install and whack this one, wait for the next WP upgrade.
Thanks for sharing. I hadn’t gotten around to updating to the latest version of WP. Now I think I’ll wait until the next upgrade.
I upgraded to 3.8 a few weeks ago in the hopes it would fix issues I was having with 3.5.
It didn’t.
I haven’t seen the same issues that you are having so I don’t know what to say.
All I can tell you is that absent of one issue (widgets not working correctly), I am good to go.
I wouldn’t worry about upgrading, LC, it wasn’t WP3.8 that was the problem, just an error with the auto-software for Dreamhost. I upgraded my backup site with no issues today at the same time. For whatever reason, the auto-installer package through Dreamhost created a whole folder called “WordPress” with all the files, which I couldn’t delete. I downloaded 3.8 to add the correct files where they should be, but some would not paste because of interference from the crazy folder.
Doesn’t seem to do much except some cosmetic changes. Dreamhost just responded and fixed all the install issues. Fortunately, everything seems to be working with 3.8
The worst, GC, was the upgrade to 2.something, which did some serious breakage to themes. I had one I loved called Fall Season, which I had done a lot of work on, and modified to from a 2 column fluid width to a 3 column fluid width.
I’m not having any issues with Widgets that I can see. Yet. Even the crazy script ones. Those are the ones that do open/close.
My water is a bit too hard.
My pizza was delivered 1 hour too late.
My stomach now feels unhappy following pizza gorging.
Winter ended too soon.
EPA is more powerful than Congress.
Congress has no power.
Glad to hear you got it figured out, Teach.
The issue I was having with the widgets was not that they were not working, but I went in to change something on one of them (a blogroll widget) and it could not be accessed. It was as if the control panel / dashboard said “sorry…. you can’t work on that.”
I found the answer on the WP site which was a line had to be added to the server if it was running Apache as the OS.
It is a bit of a work around, but it is a known flaw.
Once again, congrats on getting your issues resolved. There has to be something wrong with us bloggers who aren’t making a living at this but yet sweat, fret, worry, and spend countless hours on these things.
Teach,
Do you know of plugin that will allow moderation of posts made by specific individuals?
In other words, if Joe posts and has been “good” in the past, his post doesn’t need moderation. But Sam has been a real jerk to everyone so I want to moderate his posts before they go up.
Know anything that can do that?
Thanks!
Two really good programs for that GC.
1) ObamaCare
2) IRS
Never ran across anything like that, GC. There are plugins like Ban Hammer which will slap a comment directly into spam. Probably something similar out there.
Teach,
I found a plugin called “Better Moderation” that allows you to moderate individuals and include a note as to the reason why you are moderating them.
However, under the “Discussions” menu, it allows for moderating of individuals as well. You can do it by name, email, IP, etc.
I have to say I was missing that when I was reading that page.
Thanks for burning up a few brain cells thinking about it for me.
