‘Cause doom or something
(USA Today) The United Nations’ leading panel on climate change is preparing to warn of “severe, pervasive and irreversible” weather and climate extremes if the world doesn’t start to corral greenhouse gases that cause global warming, according to a draft of its report.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the world’s top scientific group dedicated to climate, is meeting in Copenhagen this week and will adopt its final report to be released Sunday.
Well, that’s strange. All those fossil fueled trips sure put out quite a bit of “carbon pollution”, do they not?
A draft out this week contains some of the most strident language yet by the panel about climate change.
“Continued emission of greenhouse gases will cause further warming and long-lasting changes in all components of the climate system, increasing the likelihood of severe, pervasive and irreversible impacts for people and ecosystems,” the draft states.
“Human influence on the climate system is clear, and recent anthropogenic (man-made) emissions of greenhouse gases are the highest in history,” it says. “The atmosphere and ocean have warmed, the amounts of snow and ice have diminished, and sea level has risen.”
OK, I think we can guarantee a brutal winter in the Northern Hemisphere during the upcoming season after that prognostication.
Jessica Hellmann, associate professor of biological sciences at the University of Notre Dame, warned about the dire consequences of the findings.
“The report explains that we are approaching a global tipping point,” Hellmann said. “If we cross this point, we will see huge changes in ecosystems, our ability to grow food, and increased human suffering from flood, heat, drought and sea level rise.”
Interestingly, their report will also acknowledge that there has been a 15 year “Pause”, despite the overgrowing atmospheric CO2 concentration. But, hey, they need to provide a scary narrative in order to push their hard left “solutions”.
… they need to provide a scary narrative in order to push their hard left “solutionsâ€.
A “hard left solution” such as carbon cap and trade? Which was a Republican solution until the 2008 TeaBagger coup of the GOP.
Ah, those were the days… when both parties agreed on the need to limit carbon dioxide emissions and the argument was over whether a carbon tax or a conservative market-based cap and trade system was the best path forward. Good times. But then the “know nothing” wing of the Republican Party took over… terrified by the prospect of a Negro President who would grab their guns, confiscate their hard-earned money and give to lazy Negroes and seduce their women.
What was once a center-right Republican solution to a looming problem has been transformed into a communist, socialist, hard-left plot to conquer the world. Such is the warped, fevered, frightened mind of the paranoid American far-right.
They keep squawking about this “rapidly approaching tipping point” but never say what that ‘point’ is. Just a vague reference to an arbitrary idea followed by all kinds of doom and gloom predictions. I’m still waiting for the ‘severe’ consequences that were predicted to happen by now to, well you know, actually happen.
Is there irony in the freedom loving, libertarian Competitive Enterprise Institute suing the Obama administration to make them shut up about global warming?
The lawsuit says White House Science and Technology head, Dr. John Holdren, was lying when he said a “growing body of evidence†linked the January “polar vortex†to climate change.

The lawsuit says White House Science and Technology head, Dr. John Holdren, was lying when he said a “growing body of evidence†linked the January “polar vortex†to climate change.
Bull. The lawsuit has nothing to do with trying to make anyone “shut up.”
The lawsuit seeks documents supporting Holdren’s claim which is very much in dispute.
The Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) produced and released a video posted on the White House website. CEI disagreed with Holdren’s assertion and asked for the background data. The OSTP then said Holdren’s assertion was his opinion and not the official statement of the OSTP.
CEI then asked under the Freedom of Information Act for the documents in producing the video as well as emails in a private account that Holdren had used for governmental work.
The OSTP denied the FOIA request saying the information was protected. CEI appealed. and was denied again.
CEI is suing for records that are by law to be made available to the public. The OSTP is hiding those documents and playing a two step of “Holdren’s opinion is his own and therefore not the opinion of the OSTP but if you want to know the data for the statement he made, you can’t because it is officially protected by the OSTP.”
In short, this is a case where the climate deniers are caught in a lie and don’t want to follow the law.
Here’s the lawsuit for those who wish to read it.
