It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without a patriotic pinup. It also wouldn’t be a modern Thanksgiving without someone complaining about “climate change”
Expert says climate change negatively affecting turkey meat quality
Gale Strasburg balks at the suggestion that he is trying to save Thanksgiving. He is a food scientist. He doesn’t rescue holidays.
But he is trying to save the rest of us from a future of dry and stringy Thanksgiving turkeys.
Turkeys as it happens, are vulnerable to heat and cold. Exposure to extreme temperatures early in their development can create changes in the quality of their meat that last all the way to the dining room table.
“With climate change, as we understand it, there is predicted to be more variation in the weather patterns, so we expect temperature swings from very hot weather to very cold weather,†said Strasburg, a professor of food science and human nutrition at Michigan State University.
So, greenhouse gases, particularly the Warmists main focus, CO2, what they call “carbon pollution”, are going to create more cold swings? Hence, the change of the name from “global warming” to “climate change”, because nature is not cooperating with the increase in greenhouse gas buildup. No, I won’t explain what a greenhouse gas is: either you understand it or you’re a Warmist.
But, hey, this is an excuse for being a bad cook. Fortunately, you’ll have some good talking points for the day
How To Convince Your Right-Wing Uncle To Act On Climate Change This Thanksgiving
If you’re like most Americans, you probably spend most Thanksgivings with family, crowded around a dinner table with turkey, potatoes, and pie. If you’re like the author of this article, you probably spend a portion of that dinner talking about the politics of climate change with your right-wing uncle, Richard.
Richard knows climate change is real. But he also thinks carbon emissions represent human prosperity, and he hates the idea of giving government money to solar panel makers or wind farms. Most of all, he despises the Environmental Protection Agency, which he thinks is the ultimate symbol of big government imposing unrealistic regulations that will financially cripple the industries they affect.
Contrary to what you may believe, you can achieve a productive conversation on this topic this Thanksgiving without ruining the entire holiday. Here’s how to talk to Richard — or your family’s version of him — about the benefits of climate change action, and why the principles can actually align with his world view.
Here are the ideas
- Keep your emotional arguments in check (wait, a Progressive not flipping a lid? Good luck with that)
- Present climate action as economical and patriotic, not ‘good for the planet’ (good grief)
- Remind him that carbon is actually harmful: Uncle Richard is not an entirely unreasonable man. He knows science is a real thing. (Note: If your right-wing uncle doesn’t think climate change is real, you’re in the wrong place. Learn how to talk to him about the reality of climate science here). (note: remind your walking nephew/niece that we’re not talking about carbon, but carbon dioxide, and, furthermore, ask them how voting for Obama is working out, what with the kid graduating with $29,400 in debt and working at Starbucks.)
- Appeal to his love of property rights and homeland security (good grief)
Of course, if you read the article, you’ll notice a severe lack of actual actions, other than “carbon taxes”. Surprise! Funny how Warmists never want to do anything in their own lives.
Ace wonders about something
Supposedly progressives are super-informed and Love Science. Indeed, that’s the main “political” argument they’re actually arguing for. (big snip, you should head over and read the middle)
But if they believe all these things so terribly fiercely, shouldn’t they already sorta know why they believe them?
The thing is, these are not really things they understand. These are things they are told. They are given talking points, and those talking points often change. Just a few years ago cold snaps were just weather, and weather was not climate. Now, cold and snow are “extreme weather”, and extreme weather is caused by “climate change”. Young kids are told not to put their fingers in an electrical socket or play with matches. They don’t understand why they shouldn’t do either. Like most Progressive beliefs, these are things they are told to memorize without understanding, hence the reason most devolve to boilerplate personal attacks quickly.
Anyhow, Happy Thanksgiving, you super evil deniers taking your fossil fueled trips to eat evil meat causing all sorts of extreme weather.
