It’s nice to know that there is at least one Republican Senator willing to fight back
(Politico) Sen. Ted Cruz accused liberals of “anti-science zealotry†on global warming, genetically modified food labeling and biotechnology in Iowa on Saturday.
“The radical left loves attacking people as anti-science when anyone dares question their computer models on global warming,†Cruz told about a thousand activists during an agriculture summit on the state fairgrounds. “They scream, ‘you’re anti-science,’ when someone points out, for example, that in the last 17 years, satellite data shows there’s been no warming whatsoever.â€
Progressives adhere to a totalitarian worldview, which precludes debate. When it comes to anthropogenic global warming/climate change/climate disruption/whatever they want to call it today, they are more akin to a doomsday cult.
One note for Senator Cruz: they aren’t “anti-science” on the subject: they are “un-science”, because they do not care about the science, they do not practice science on the subject, and the are all about the politics. And, if you disagree, they will come after you personally.
“The hard-core left loves ridiculing Christians who believe scripture that says God created the heaven and the earth,†Cruz went on. “They say that it’s anti-science to believe that an almighty God would do such a thing. But when it comes to biotech, suddenly these same voices become the most anti-science zealots we’ve ever seen.â€
“We need to stand up to the hysteria,†Cruz said in discussing genetically modified foods. “For families, for parents, that don’t want to feed their kids GMOs, in the private marketplace, there has grown up an abundant market. You can go and purchase organic, if you want to pay more …We shouldn’t let anti-science zealotry shut down the ability to produce low-cost, quality food for billions across the globe.â€
It is interesting how Liberals/Progressives, supposedly champions of the future, freak out about modern technology. Though, I will say that there does need to be some care in the use of GMO.
Ted Cruz also took on Renewable Fuel Standards at the Iowa Ag Summit
(Des Moines Register) Ted Cruz said Saturday in Des Moines that he backs production of biofuels like ethanol, but he declined to endorse the Renewable Fuels Standard, a federal program that requires transportation fuels to contain a minimum amount of renewable fuels.
“I support biofuels. I think they have a major role in the energy market. But I don’t think Washington should be picking winners and losers,” the Texas Republican said. “When it comes to energy, we should have an all of the above approach, but it should be driven by the market.”
That’s a tough stance to take in corn country, but, he’s right: there should be no mandatory use of biofuels, particularly those made from food.
Politico also has 10 takeaways from the Ag Summit.

Demagogues such as Cruz are not interested in scientific debate, only in propaganda. There is no scientific debate about the cause of the current rapid warming period.
Do you note the irony of Cruz, on the side of science orthodoxy in this case, calling those who question the safety of GMOs as anti-science zealots and hysterics? This is exactly what he accuses the climate science orthodoxy of doing to Deniers. (For the record, as far as I know there is no evidence showing GMOs are unsafe). On what does Cruz base his knowledge of GMOs? Does he accept the scientific consensus that holds that current GM foods are no riskier than non-GM foods?
And Teach refuses to discuss any evidence but does call climate scientists totalitarians and cultists. Typical.
