This arrest, taped on video, has apparently created “tension”, and WRAL isn’t helping
Arrest caught on camera creates tension in Roanoke Rapids
An arrest of a Roanoke Rapids woman that was caught on camera by a bystander this week has created increased tension between law enforcement officers and the community.
Alvina Michelle Moody, 25, was arrested Monday afternoon at a Dollar General and charged with possession of marijuana, possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana, drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. The video of the arrest was posted on YouTube and Facebook with the caption, “police brutality.” As of Wednesday, the video had more than 30,000 views. Viewer warning: The video contains obscene language.
Deputy Chris Boden was just doing his job in arresting a criminal. Said criminal was resisting arrest. The video show him using proper restrain in detaining the perp. Of course, this created some sort of issue
Frances Smith, said she was standing nearby and witnessed the officer grab Moody’s arm behind her back. Smith, 53, of Roanoke Rapids, was one of three people arrested for obstructing the officer.
“I was only trying to help a citizen,” she said. “She was hollering and he was dragging her to the car. When he dragged her to the car, that’s when I ran back and said, ‘Sheriff, please stop beating her.'”
In other words, she was trying to create a racial situation. Instead, she was arrested for obstruction while interfering with the deputy. Many people were yelling disgusting things at a duly sworn officer of the law who was attempting to detain a person selling drugs.
Furthermore, the situation was, in fact, caught on the deputy’s body camera, given to the county prosecutor.
“With this national war against police, a deputy sheriff in Texas can’t even go gas up his vehicle without getting killed execution style, so it’s on the mind of all of our officers,” he said, referring to Deputy Darren GoForth, who was shot while filling his patrol car with gas at a station in suburban Houston on Aug. 28.
Are there bad cops out there? Ones who go over the line? Ones who make bad decisions in the heat of the moment? Sure. Welcome to life. Meanwhile, officers have to deal with scumbags and criminals day in day out, and their job is made that much harder by Left wing activists, especially the #BlackLivesMatter crew, who are targeting all police for attempting to stop criminals. Only in Liberal World.
We have issues with cops, there is no doubt about that and I have seen any number of innocent people beaten up by cops over the years. So, we need to do something about that. But, what we don’t have is a racial issue. The BLM is founded on lies and has a political agenda that is similar to the disruptive anti-wall street group of recent. The other issue is the excessive crime in black areas and among blacks in general, especially a tendency to violence (look it up before you make a stupid comment Jeff). This has nothing to do with poverty or any white suppression.
In the comments at YouTube, there isn’t much sympathy for the woman other than from the guy who shot the video and some other person who immediately goes into a ridiculous name calling episode.
There is nothing here to see.
At the same time, former tennis pro James Blake was tackled by a New York police officer while walking down the street minding his own business. The police said Blake matched the description of a criminal they were looking for which is fine to stop Blake and talk to him, but not tackle him to the ground. Blake was not running, resisting or anything other than walking when the cop tackled him.
I think the two incidents show that each case must be looked at individually and not through a lens where everyone is painted by a broad brush.
There are acts of violence committed by the police and wearing a badge (qualified immunity) should not protect them from the repercussions of the unlawful and excessive use of violence against citizens.
On the other hand, a cop legally doing his job should not be subject to what was seen in the video from Virginia. For her actions in attacking the cop without cause, the woman should be held accountable.
Let’s stop painting people and professions with broad brushes and then maybe we can actually accomplish something.
dave,
So Black men and women have a “tendency to violence”?
Since you’re a physician do you have a scientific explanation for this “tendency”?
The Nazis (whites) killed millions of men, women and children. The Russians (whites) killed millions of men, women and children. The Chinese, Cambodians and Japanese (Asians) have killed millions.
The only nuclear weapons used were dropped by white people.
Were southern slaves violent compared to their owners?
Whites killed thousands of Native Americans.
Australian whites worked to exterminate the Native Aborigines.
The highest murder rates currently are in South American countries (whites, Black, Hispanic).
Do you have any evidence to support your claim?
Uh,
http://www.amren.com/news/2015/07/new-doj-statistics-on-race-and-violent-crime/
sp,
Uh, you miss the point.
We all know that US Black men and women commit more street crime than whites (in proportion to their demographics). (Whites commit much more white collar crime).
dave, an admitted and proud white supremacist, stated that Black men and women have a “tendency to violence”. My question was about causation.
In human history, it seems that for all races and classes there is plenty of blame to go around.
Well you did ask for evidence. It was provided.
What ‘point’ was missed?
That the evidence be related to the question.
dave claimed that Black people have a “tendency to violence”.
There was no mention of race or “activists” in the news report.
Teach made that part up.
Jeff,
You really went off, shows your psychosis. Did you even try to look up the information? NO. Blacks in the US are 7 times as likely to comment a violent action or crime, on a world wide basis it is 3 times as likely. I would say that is enough evidence. Now, I am a white supremacist?? What is that. Someone who is proud of himself and his linage? I don’t advocate for preference in hiring and school placement, as with affirmative action. I don’t advocate for a white TV channel or radio station or even political caucus, yet these things are part of our relationship with the black constituents and no one complains. We even have a black chamber of commerce and the Federal government makes sure that black business is always brought forward above whites. Then we have special test for white and black applicants for jobs. It seems to me that as you support these actions, you are the white supremacist as you think you are superior to blacks. I for one accept anyone who just declares themselves to be human and American (well, I would prefer CSA). Then you always go off on slavery, why? Slavery is still alive and well in Africa. Slavery was practiced by blacks in the South, look up Melrose plantation. In fact, a large number of blacks owned slaves. Have you ever checked it out. Check out the difference between Davis and Lincoln. Davis adopted a black child and gave to black constantly, Lincoln hate blacks and his intention for after the war was to move them back to Africa or any where but here.
