Bruce Springsteen decides to belatedly join the “pro-gender confused in whatever bathroom/shower/locker room they choose that day” crowd
(WTVD) Bruce Springsteen canceled Sunday’s concert in Greensboro, citing HB2 and the rights of LGBT citizens.
Springsteen wrote in a statement to fans that the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act is “an attempt by people who cannot stand the progress our country has made in recognizing the human rights of all of our citizens to overturn that progress.”
Springsteen apologized to his fans on his website and tweeted a link to his entire statement. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.
So, rather than uphold his commitment, he has a hissy fit and cancels, in what is surely just a way to patronize certain people. His full statement
As you, my fans, know I’m scheduled to play in Greensboro, North Carolina this Sunday. As we also know, North Carolina has just passed HB2, which the media are referring to as the “bathroom” law. HB2 – known officially as the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act – dictates which bathrooms transgender people are permitted to use. Just as important, the law also attacks the rights of LGBT citizens to sue when their human rights are violated in the workplace. No other group of North Carolinians faces such a burden. To my mind, it’s an attempt by people who cannot stand the progress our country has made in recognizing the human rights of all of our citizens to overturn that progress. Right now, there are many groups, businesses, and individuals in North Carolina working to oppose and overcome these negative developments. Taking all of this into account, I feel that this is a time for me and the band to show solidarity for those freedom fighters. As a result, and with deepest apologies to our dedicated fans in Greensboro, we have canceled our show scheduled for Sunday, April 10th. Some things are more important than a rock show and this fight against prejudice and bigotry – which is happening as I write – is one of them. It is the strongest means I have for raising my voice in opposition to those who continue to push us backwards instead of forwards.
A question for Bruce: will he demand that every venue he plays from now on have a policy that allows the transgendered to use the bathroom of their gender identity? How about anywhere else he goes? Restaurants, bars, golf clubs, gyms, stores, etc? If not, then this cancellation is simply narcissistic bloviating. Every company I’ve asked as to their TG bathroom policies has refused to answer, barring one bar in Durham.

The point of HB2 is not to penalize transgenders, it is to restrict government. Any privately owned area can allow their own policies on the subject. The policy for government buildings is set for all levels of NC government, which says you go to the bathroom, locker room, and shower of your biological sex. But, why no penalties? Because this is all about rolling back the power of the government to force social compliance on private entities and citizens. It creates choice. Something Liberals apparently only like when it comes to aborting a baby.
Meanwhile, for all the liberals caterwauling about hate, discrimination, sexism, etc, they refuse to decry radical Islam.
Don’t shoot! As Teach says, NC is better off without people like Springsteen and companies like PayPal. Good riddance!
My company has a $0.5 million contract with UNC that expires in Dec, that I won’t renew. You wouldn’t want liberal money anyway!

Do they need an explicit policy? Maybe just avoid States with laws restricting the rights of gays and transexuals.
A little free advice. Perhaps it’s time to stop making excuses and address the harm this gratuitous attack on others has done to your State. Perhaps instead of attacking those who disagree with you (and have the power and money to have an impact) you address the problems in your legislature.
Earlier this week, University of North Carolina President Margaret Spellings, whose anti-LGBT reputation precedes her, issued a memo to the chancellors explaining that the university system would be complying with HB2.

Who would have ever thought that North Carolina would become the southernmost Carolina.

There is much less evidence (in fact, none) for God, gods, angels and demons than there is for AGW, yet Republicans legislate their religious beliefs – as if some god disapproves of LGBT folk.
Sure, sure, we get it, conservatives “claim” it’s a public safety issue, but it’s clearly not. They think their mythical leader disapproves. If cons thought they could get away with it they’d be tossing LGBT off the roof, too. And what did the stone-age goatherders for whom cons live their lives have to say about the transgendered? Nothing, you say? Sort of like forgetting to mention thunder lizards dominating the planet for millions of years or forgetting that the Earth was billions of years old. The stone-age goatherders whom cons revere, worship and obey may not have known everything after all.
We get it. Cons think a god that they can’t prove exists (or even support with ANY evidence) hates gays and transgendered, so cons want to hurt them however and whenever they can.
But cons seem to forget that the goatherders passed along these words:
“‘And you shall love the lord your god with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Interestingly, we can all remember Jeff defending the IRS. He also agrees with government going after people who refuse to buy into AGW (as further witnessed by his comment in the post on the Virgin Islands AG). He loves that government forces citizens to pay for contraception for other people, even when it is against their deeply held religious beliefs. He defends Hillary and Obama, who use their vast power to run roughshod over the citizens.
