Our long national nightmare is over
(KDVR) A 5 year-old girl was suspended from kindergarten on Monday for bringing a gun to Southeast Elementary School.
It sounds alarming, but the weapon was a bubble gun, a popular plastic toy sold at stores across Colorado.
The girl’s mother, who goes by Emma, said she was shocked when she got a call from the school telling her she needed to pick up her daughter and take her home.
“If they had contacted me and said can you make sure this doesn’t happen again, we just want you to be aware, I think that would have been a more appropriate way to handle the situation. Could we have a warning? It blows bubbles,†she said.
If you’re thinking that the school defended this idiotic policy, you’d be correct. They released a Statement. Because bubble guns and nerf guns and stuff are Bad, you guys. And if you think that the mother thinks common sense should be applied, you would be correct. And if you think the child was very upset and didn’t want to go back to school, you’d be correct.
The schools are in a tough position.
How about a BB pistol? How about an unloaded BB pistol – perfectly safe. Unloaded revolver – again safe.
Do the other kids realize that the toy is a toy?
Is a toy bomb OK? A fake bomb?
There’s nothing in the Constitution preventing a 5 year old from bringing a loaded Walther PPK to class is there? I think the school is violating her Constitutional rights.
When bubbles are outlawed only outlaws will have bubbles.
@Jeffery : Yours may be the mot idiotic comment I have seen in a long time. Are you occupied by a village by any chance?
Sure, why not? A PPK is exactly like a bubble blowing child’s toy.
Jeffrey actually got something right; we’ll call it stopped clock syndrome!
They are, because they learned, years ago, that if they have any policies which allow for any sort of discretion, they open themselves to discrimination lawsuits. That’s why you have idiotic zero tolerance policies, so that what ought to be common sense discretion doesn’t put the school in a lawsuit because one student’s discipline could be seen as different from another’s.
Didn’t Jeff get upset about the Muslims student in Texas that brought in a clock that looked like a bomb? I would bet that he looks at the religion and ethnicity of the individual before he decides on anything.
The happiest day of my life was when I got all my kids out of public school and they could not be destroyed by the system.
My wife got written up just a few days ago at school for allowing a kindergartener to get into a jeep that belonged to a family friend.
Even though my wife was clear across the school ground, leaving the premises for the day…….the result was she observed this happening 100 yards from her present position and failed to stop the incident from happening.
Talk about zero tolerance. The girls grandfather was in the car behind the child and let it happen….yet my wife got written up for allowing it to happen because she happened to walk out of the building at the time of the incident.
This is the height of lunacy but the reality is the PRINCIPAL threw my wife under the bus because the parents demanded a scape goat despite the fact their father was actually in charge of the daughter and let it happen in front of him.
Zero tolerance is the norm in schools and it goes way beyond bubble gum guns…..teachers go to seminars just to learn what words are correct and you almost need a lawyer present to teach school nowadays.
She cannot wait to retire.
