Democrats continued on with their gun grabbing civil rights offending agenda Friday
(Bloomberg) House Democrats said Friday they won’t support legislation Speaker Paul Ryan plans to bring to a vote next week that seeks to prevent terrorists from purchasing firearms.
Following their dramatic 25-hour House chamber sit-in last week to demand votes on gun bills, Democrats contend the Republican proposal doesn’t provide strong enough action and warn that renewed protests are possible after the House reconvenes Tuesday. (snip)
Instead, they will continue to press for votes on legislation broadening background checks for gun sales and banning firearm sales to people on the government’s “no-fly†list of suspected terrorists. Democratic calls for such legislation intensified after the killings of 49 people in a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
Ryan’s bill, HR 5611, is essentially exactly the same as the ones offered by Democrats in the Senate, except that it provides Due Process guarantees, putting the burden on the Government to prove that a person shouldn’t be allowed to purchase a firearm, and the government cannot use secret information that will be hidden from the plaintiff. It even institutes the notion from that “bipartisan” Senate bill which would have the government picking up the legal tab if the government loses.
Apparently, Democrats are against the Constitution.

The problem with the Dems/libs on this issue is that it doesn’t begin to address the root cause of almost all firearm-related murders in America – poverty. As horrible as mass attacks are, few murders in America are committed by sociopaths like Dylann Roof, Adam Lanza and Omar Mateen, but almost all occur in impoverished metro areas of Chicago, Detroit, LA, New Orleans etc. – drug deals gone bad, dead enders shooting each other over perceived slights, robberies. We know, we know… in the recesses of the conserva-mind this is Negro problem, based on their “violent” nature. (NB – Half of firearms-related murders are by White men).
This bulk of murders doesn’t energize gun control advocates because they’re Black on Black murders, or rednecks shooting rednecks. Wealthy white suburbanites protecting themselves with AR-15s against an enemy that is not coming are largely unaffected.
These debates and bills are political Kabuki.
For gun laws to significantly impact firearms-related deaths in the US would require confiscating all firearms. THIS IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.
If the concern is about mass murderers, of course limiting access to assault style weapons (semi-automatic, easier to handle, pistol grip, flash suppression, large magazines, low recoil ammo) will stop some. Limiting access to semi-auto hand guns with large magazines will stop some too. But overall, there’s not much to do to cut down firearms murders in the US without facing up the root causes.
So barring a citizen from buying a gun for 3 days IS Constitutional(according to Teach and Ryan) while said citizen is being investigated by the fed, but any longer is un-Constitutional. How do you figure that? How about 4 days? 5? 7? 10?
As you probably know, the No-Fly list is part of the Patriot Act, which most cons supported.

Ahh but Jeffery you do not seem to know whats going on with the GOP.
The GOP of 2000 and 2006 when the Patriot act was voted on and reauthorized was consisting of basic Cons who were establishment type Conservatives. Many would argue Neo-conservatives in many cases.
Today the GOP consists of libertarians who have taken over the GOP and are now redefining what it means to be Conservative.
As for Poverty……yep….thats it just vote for those Democrats ONE MORE TIME and they will end poverty.
You are right~!!!…Poverty is the root cause of much violence but curing poverty is the last thing the left wants to do because it would cause them to lose most of their support.
The right is not interested in curing poverty because well it would cost money and the new GOP is against the government doing anything to fix anything because its not in the constitution word for word that THOU SHALT CURE POVERTY.

And that 3-day thing? That’s already part of the NICS arrangement, so it’s no more onerous than it is. It’s what’s known as a “compromise”, which is something liberals insist that conservatives do, while refusing to do it themselves. It also puts the burden on the government to explain why a civil right should be denied, which is how it should be.

You’re right but you’re not right. It’s not the governments job to cure poverty. It’s the governments job to provide security and insure equal justice and equal opportunity to each citizen. It’s up to the individual to do the rest. In order for government to “cure poverty” it would need the power to strip all property from every person and redistribute it according to what the government thinks it should be. That’s communism. It don’t work. When the greatest health problem facing the “poor” in America is obesity perhaps our definition of “poverty” should be more in line with Somalia than Detroit.
And after spending about $4trillion on the “War on Poverty” I need to know when is enough, enough? That’s $4trillion of our hard-earned dollars stolen from us by that “government” you think should cure poverty in an effort to cure poverty. But it didn’t cure poverty. So in the spirit of a typical dumbass leftist should we keep doing the same thing over and over and hope for a different outcome? Or should we admit that the most hated book in the world by leftists (not the Koran you fool) the Holy Bible says: the poor will always be among us, and put an end to the vote generating apparatus of the democrats known as “curing poverty”?

Jobs. Jobs. Jobs. Long term full employment goes a long way to resolving poverty. Capitalists hate full employment because it drives up wages, makes it more difficult to keep good employees, increases competition and can trigger inflation – in fact, when inflation ticks up, standard monetary policy is to toss millions of Americans out of work to cool off the economy!
Our government has enacted policies that harm the working classes – unfair taxation, fiscal/monetary policies, “free” trade pacts, immigration, labor law, patent and copyright, education, safety net… all designed to succor the wealthy at the expense of the working poor and middle classes.
What to do? The opposite of almost every nu-Republican policy. Raise taxes on the wealthy and cut, cut, cut taxes on the working classes. (I know, I know, even RINOs like Romney claim the poor don’t pay taxes but that’s a big fat lie – they pay regressive payroll and local taxes – in fact as you cut federal support state and local taxes on the poor go up!). Use adequate fiscal stimulus when needed during business cycle downturns and recessions to support employment. Be careful with monetary policy – a little inflation is good for economies. Encourage labor unions. Do not support strong dollar policies. Don’t put American workers in direct competition with low paid foreign workers. Stop protectionism of highly compensated classes, doctors, lawyers, architects, engineers. Repair the patent and copyright systems, especially in the pharmaceutical and tech segments.
