The always unhinged Think Progress is rather vexed by Trump heading to Louisiana
Trump Tours Flood-Ravaged Louisiana But Thinks Climate Change Is A Hoax
On Friday morning, Donald Trump toured southeast Louisiana, a region that has been ravaged in the past week by historic rainfall and devastating floods. Late last week, slow-moving weather systems dumped more than two feet of rain over a 48-hour period, leaving more than a dozen dead and at least 40,000 homes damaged. (snip)
But Trump’s visit, coupled with his calls for sympathy for the victims of the flooding, is ironic, considering his denial of climate change, which is expected to increase the likelihood that devastating floods like the one in Louisiana will occur.
“Climate change has already been shown to increase the amounts of rain falling in the most intense events across many parts of the world, and extreme rainfall events like this week’s Louisiana storm are expected to grow increasingly common in the coming years,†Bob Henson and Jeff Masters explained over at Weather Underground. Which is to say that while climate change can’t cause a single weather event — and while floods certainly would occur in a world without climate change — global warming is making the odds of these extreme events more and more likely.
Of course, when there are dry conditions, Warmists will also say that ‘climate change’ will make the odds of these extreme events (you know, weather, which happens regardless) more and more likely. No matter what happens, these cultists will invoke ‘climate change’. It’s what they do.
And TP isn’t the only outlet going Warmbat: the Washington Post thinks this is the perfect time to talk about Hotcoldwetdry. Which is not surprising, as they’d rather talk about that then why Obama kept golfing and doing parties and fundraisers while people were dying and houses were being flooded.
The Sierra Club released an unhinged press release through the far left Common Dreams whining that Trump is a “study in ignorance and reckless disregard” over ‘climate change’.
There’s plenty more like this, all Very Concerned about AGW and wanting to slam Trump, yet, showing an utter lack of empathy for the victims who are trying to pick up their lives right now. The victims are being used as props. Shameful.
Phew!!!…it’s good to know it’s never rained hard in a SWAMP ever before in the history of the earth….
Trump is a big fat turd.
The Earth continues to warm as a result of our adding CO2 to the atmosphere.
Yes, the hurricanes we predicted never materialized, so this heavy rain will do. Hopefully no one will notice our spectacularly botched predictions of the past.
of course a once in 500 years rain event is completely normal
as far as hurricane (cyclone activity please note that Teach always uses “land falling hurricanes” as his yardstick

While the number of storms in the Atlantic has increased since 1995, there is no obvious global trend; the annual number of tropical cyclones worldwide remains about 87 ± 10 (Between 77 and 97 tropical cyclones annually). However, the ability of climatologists to make long-term data analysis in certain basins is limited by the lack of reliable historical data in some basins, primarily in the Southern Hemisphere,[147] while noting that a significant downward trend in tropical cyclone numbers has been identified for the region near Australia (based on high quality data and accounting for the influence of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation).[148] In spite of that, there is some evidence that the intensity of hurricanes is increasing. Kerry Emanuel stated, “Records of hurricane activity worldwide show an upswing of both the maximum wind speed in and the duration of hurricanes. The energy released by the average hurricane (again considering all hurricanes worldwide) seems to have increased by around 70% in the past 30 years or so, corresponding to about a 15% increase in the maximum wind speed and a 60% increase in storm lifetime.”[149]
Atlantic storms are becoming more destructive financially, as evidenced by the fact that five of the ten most expensive storms in United States history have occurred since 1990. According to the World Meteorological Organization, “recent increase in societal impact from tropical cyclones has been caused largely by rising concentrations of population and infrastructure in coastal regions.”[150] Pielke et al. (2008) normalized mainland U.S. hurricane damage from 1900–2005 to 2005 values and found no remaining trend of increasing absolute damage. The 1970s and 1980s were notable because of the extremely low amounts of damage compared to other decades. The decade 1996–2005 was the second most damaging among the past 11 decades, with only the decade 1926–1935 surpassing its costs. The most damaging single storm is the 1926 Miami hurricane, with $157 billion of normalized damage.[151]
in the last 30 years the energy released by an average hurricane seems to have increased by 70% with 15% typically higher wind speeds and lasting 60% longer
but some people think that only storms that hit the richest country are worth noting
The Earth continues to warm
Agreed.
of course a once in 500 years rain event is completely normal
Yes.
That’s a great advance! For years the right claimed that thermometer technology was not well understood and that crooked NASA and UK Met scientists were making up data, conspiring with communists to take over the planet.
