Despite losing well over a thousand federal and state seats during the time of Obama, then losing the White House, Democrats are super enthused!
House Democrats grow bullish after Trump’s stumbles
Their fear of languishing in the minority is turning into hope for a quick revival.….
House Democrats are ready to flex their muscles, providing a list of demands Republicans must meet if they want Democratic votes to keep the government running beyond Friday. And they could be key players on tax reform and infrastructure in the coming months, if Trump ends up needing bipartisan buy-in.
What are they bullish about, in regards to the budget and demands?
Democratic leaders say they won’t accept a Republican proposal that funds Trump’s proposed border wall, pours federal dollars into a “deportation force†or blocks federal grants for so-called sanctuary cities, all top priorities for a White House looking for its first big legislative win.
Democrats also say Republicans must agree to maintain Obamacare subsidies for lower-income people in the spending bill, a program Trump has threatened to derail.
As to the first, the Democrats are demanding that the federal government ignore not only federal law, but the Constitutional provision that the federal government protect the country from foreign invasion. That the federal government excuse lower level government violating federal law.
That said, you do have to wonder how Congressional Republicans will surrender to the Democrats, like they do time and time again.
Bottle? What bottle?
Perhaps if the GOP were to call their bluff & shame their own, there wouldn’t be a drama. Ryan is weak.
The Republicans are in charge now, they can pass the bill they and trump desire. Why blame the Dems?
They can slash health-care subsidies for the poor on their own. They can charge taxpayers to build the Wall of Trump that Mexico was supposed to pay for.
As to trump’s deportation plan, he’s trying to coerce local officials into doing the job of the federal government. trump’s mobster background is showing. He’s willing to break a few legs (cut funding to cities) to force cities to cooperate with his executive orders.
“That’s a nice little subsidy you have there, it would be a shame if somethin’ were to happen to it. You know, if you can see it in your heart to do the right thing and give me the money to build my wall I can make sure the poor get their health insurance. Tink about it.”
Some negotiator.
Just like the National 55 mph speed limit for federal highway funds, and every other “nice little subsidy” they come with strings attached.
