The Times of Trenton editorial board has an anti-gun hissy fit
Hey NRA, people don’t need to own an Uzi, AK-47 or AR-15
“Nobody needs an Uzi. Nobody needs an AK-47.”
With those words to the media nearly 30 years ago, former Gov. James Florio set New Jersey on course to adopt the country’s strongest gun-safety laws, including a ban on a wide range of semi-automatic weapons.
This coming week, a successor, Gov. Phil Murphy, is expected to do his part to keep Garden State residents safe.
The first-term Democrat is poised to sign six bills that passed the state Legislature Thursday, including a measure that authorizes courts to issue restraining orders to persons who pose a significant risk or personal injury to themselves or others by possessing a firearm.
Interestingly, virtually nothing in those bills will do anything about the high crime and shootings by criminals and use of guns by criminals in places like Trenton, the capital city of New Jersey. And just make law abiding citizens easier prey to criminals.
But, let me ask: are Uzi’s still a thing? That just seems so 80’s, when they were used all the time in movies and TV shows. No one seems to use them anymore in those. And, really, they were never really a thing for personal use, because you couldn’t get them in automatic, at least not without ATF approval and paying $6,000+ for the stamp, which the average person would not get. You’re better off with a pistol.
As far as need, well, people do not need lots of things. They don’t really need giant screen TVs. They don’t need to upgrade their phone every 2 years or less. They don’t need high speed Internet. They don’t need cars that go faster than 70. The Times of Trenton doesn’t need a website. They don’t need an electronic printing press. They don’t need to deliver using trucks. But, they want those things.
The NJ General Assembly doesn’t need armed security. Nor does NJ Governor Murphy. They want those things. And what 2nd Amendment supporters want is mostly none of the business of any of these folks. If I want a Bushmaster AR-10, which fires a 7.62 round (vs the smaller .223 from the AR-15) I’ll get one. I don’t want one, but that is my choice, based on the 2nd Amendment of the Bill of Rights.
But, hey, maybe this will help in reviving Uzi sales.
Our 2nd Amendment does not guarantee the right to any firearm you wish to possess.
Do you consider the restrictions on possessing a machine gun to violate our Constitution? If not, why not?
No, but it doesn’t prohibit anything, either.
And then there’s this little goodie
Amendment X
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.
Jeff,
Don’t know a thing about the Constitution, just like your total ignorance on everything else. Read the 2nd amendment, it states that ownership of guns will not be abridged. Then the Constitution set what the Feds can do, any thing else is stuff they can’t do. Do you get your jollies by showing ignorance, stupidity and racist attitude?
The first time a giant screen TV is used to injure hundreds and kill scores of Americans you will see calls for restrictions.
You obviously never watched an Obama SOTU speech on one.
Or the first time a Giant TV is used to keep a tyrannical government at bay, (like the Jews did in the Warsaw Ghetto in WWII), you see calls for them to be banned!!!!
You mean like knives, hammers, hatchets, and baseball bats?
(God, he’s easy)
Whiz,
Maybe angry white guys WILL start using knives, hammers, hatchets, giant screen TVS and baseball bats to kill scores of Americans at one time, once they can’t use high-capacity semi-automatic rifles. At that time we may see restrictions. But note that knives, hammers, hatchets, giant screen TVs, baseball bats and automobiles, too, all have societal functions beyond killing other humans wholesale.
No one seems to want to answer if they consider restrictions on machine guns to be violating our Constitution. Why not?
(God, he/she/it is soooo easy). We suspect in the Time of Trump (TOT) that the tRumpitista think they are making arguments even when they are just masturbating their keyboard.
Sad.
First, you can own a machine gun. Second, it is very easy to make a machine gun. Third, I don’t see the point in restricting the sell of machine guns. I would feel much safer facing off against a shooter with a machine gun rather than a sniper or a guy with a shotgun. As you have never had to do that, please don’t show more ignorance.
Jeff,
Forgot something.
MAGA
douche_dude,
We didn’t claim all guns are only for “killing other humans wholesale”. Your local, suburban police need them in the event they need to shoot someone, for example a bad guy with a high-capacity semi-auto assault weapon.
Are you arguing to disarm the police? Many countries do that and they have lower violent crime rates than the US.
or more correctly, MCGA – Make China Great Again, or, MRGA – Make Russia Great Again. We should have hats made.
tRump is not making America great, he diminishes us all daily. He alienates friends and allies but rewards our enemies and competitors – isolating this nation from the world – all to maintain the approval of conservative, undereducated, white Christians. We guess he’ll want to build a wall between the US and Canada now. He is enchanted by tyrants and dictators with their state-run propaganda apparatus, e.g., Putin, Erdogan, Kim, Duterte and Xi. tRump is a self-absorbed insecure child in a man’s job who surrounds himself with sycophants and fools. He illustrates the fragility of our democracy.
China and Russia are thrilled with tRump and are eager to take our place as world leaders.
So if guns are only for “killing other humans wholesale”, how come my local, suburban police need them?
Are they planning for a massive uprising? Are they planning to do some “killing other humans wholesale”?
It’s funny that you’re regurgitating the DNC talking points very well. They don’t have a hope in 2020 with these lines.

(And incredibly stupid.)
Jeff,
Why don’t you tell us exactly how elimination of guns will make us safer and why liberals don’t want to improve mental health treatment which is to root cause of our current problem with violence.
Look at other liberal progressive issues that have clearly not worked. There is prohibition. Then there is the horrible restriction on drugs that was pushed by Wilson and group and has caused far more problems than benefit. In fact almost every progressive agenda has been a failure and eroded our freedom.
MAGA
dave,
Again, we’re not calling for the elimination of sll guns. And it was your god-king who cut a billion out of the mental health budget.
Here are some progressive agenda items: Social Security, Medicare, sCHIP, child labor laws, clean air, clean water, voting rights for women and minorities, gay rights, and on and on. Conservatives have oppressed women and minorities and handed a free rein to corporations, mounted offensive invasions of sovereign nations, and pushed the overall tax burden onto the working classes. It’s conservative policies that led to our debt.
What freedoms have you lost?
