It seems that every day brings a new “go (blank) yourself” from the Missiah. Yesterday was a whopper, though. First, he wants to refine his Iraq policy from “they are going to pulled out completely in 16 months,” to
“My 16-month timeline, if you examine everything that I’ve said, was always premised on making sure that our troops were safe. I said that based on the information that we had received from our commanders that one to two brigades a month could be pulled out safely, from a logistical perspective. My guiding approach continues to be that we’ve got to make sure that our troops are safe and that Iraq is stable. I’m going to continue to gather information to find out whether those conditions still hold.â€
So, now he will listen to the commanders on the ground, and, if the situation changes, he will change. That does not make the Nutroots very happy. They want the troops out immediately, not 16 months, and certainly not by listening to the commanders, who might force a longer withdrawl. You can see Obama’s long time consistent position, which does not include talking to commanders, here. I also have a screenshot here, in case that pesky old memory hole jumps up like a sink hole.
As a sidebar to that, Obama talks about “humanitarian relief” for Iraqi’s. If only he was as concerned about the 50K children dying under Saddam’s rule each year, which no longer happens now that Saddam is gone.
The second big GFY from Obama involves the Left’s #1 issue, abortion on demand
Obama: I absolutely can, so please don’t believe the emails. I have repeatedly said that I think it’s entirely appropriate for states to restrict or even prohibit late-term abortions as long as there is a strict, well-defined exception for the health of the mother. Now, I don’t think that “mental distress” qualifies as the health of the mother. I think it has to be a serious physical issue that arises in pregnancy, where there are real, significant problems to the mother carrying that child to term. Otherwise, as long as there is such a medical exception in place, I think we can prohibit late-term abortions.
Despite the yammering about making abortions “safe and rare,” Liberals/Progressives want anything but. They want an abortion to be preformed at any time and any place. They have no problem with taking a non-parent taking an underage girl across state lines to have an abortion, with no parental notification. They have a problem with parental notification of any abortion. Heck, they do not even like using the word abortion. They have many euphamisms, all designed to make abortion seem to be a minor medical procedure, like taking care of a pesky wart.
Melissa McEwan is pissed!
I just honestly don’t even know what to say. Part of me wants to explore the bloody fucking obvious hypotheticals that make this position totally untenable (e.g. a pregnant woman under such psychological distress that she is a danger to herself and ergo necessarily the fetus), and another part of me just wants to point out how gobsmackingly offensive (and misogynist) this is. (snip)
Certainly his defenders will say he didn’t mean it that way, and of course he didn’t. What he meant is that he doesn’t think all those irresponsible, fickle, ninny-brained straw-women who decide willy-nilly they want abortions in their third trimester shouldn’t be allowed to get one by claiming “mental distress” swoon swan get thee to a fainting couch. He’s breathing life into the damnable lie that there are legions of women who seek out late-term abortions just because they’ve changed their silly little minds and make up lies about “mental distress” to get them.
Unfuckingbelievable. I am absolutely furious.
Tell us how you really feel, Melissa.
NARAL leaders ought to feel like idiots.
A leading anti-choice group says Obama either is being disingenous or he’s ignorant. (Note they don’t mention the third possibility which is that he’s on their side):
Looks like no one will be pleased with his new position. As I’ve said all along about his religious outreach, you don’t get something for nothing and if he wants the evangelical vote, he’s going to have to offer them something. Is this it?
The Left is learning that when it comes to the people they nominate, especially a blatant neophyte, they will do anything and say anything to get elected, and, if that means throwing battery acid on the base while changing and abandoning positions as they see fit, so be it.
Dubya once said “you may not always like where I stand, but, you know what I stand for.” Obama might as well say “you may not always like where I stand, but, at least you have no idea where I will stand tomorrow.”
Over at Stop The ACLU, Obama’s flip flops causing Left to have whiplash.
