If you want to participate in Oregon society without being forced to wear a mask, you better have your paperwork in order.
The state is now requiring individuals to display “proof of vaccination†if they’d like to take their masks off indoors, Oregon’s Health Authority has announced.
In rejecting the more practical and individual liberty embracing “honor system†approach that we’ve seen across the United States, the authorities in Salem are taking the fascist policy route.
“Oregon will allow people to go maskless outside but will require them to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 — and be able to prove it — to forgo masks in most public indoor settings,†the Oregonian reports.
Yes, you read that correctly. Oregon finally ended its *outdoor* mask mandate, a full year and a half into Covid Mania. And in exchange for “granting†systems the freedom to breathe fresh air, they will now be forced to show “proof of vaccination†if they want to participate in society.
If you want to go into a businesses, workplaces, or houses of worship you are required to show your proof, and they are required to demand the proof. The above photo comes from the main link, which is part of the order. Where do they get the statutory authority to do this? Is there existing law? Are they diving deep into existing law, using loopholes and extensions, since lawmakers so often make laws too broad and leave cracks to do this? Or, are they just drunk on power, and want to flex their authoritarianism? You can bet most places that voted to join Idaho will ignore the order.
It would be worth seriously debating the merits of this authoritarian insanity if in fact Oregon could demonstrate that they were “following the science†on this issue, but it’s clear that this order has nothing to do with science, and everything to do with power and control.

Just before the inauguration the nationwide 7-day average of new Covid cases was 259,000 per day. Today it is 14,500. That’s a 94% decrease in cases!! Deaths dropped from 3000/day to 600/day, an 80% decrease.

First, to called an entrenched bureaucratic agency not beholden to any president “Trump’s CDC” is just moronic.
Second what would you call this?
The CDC counted EVERY positive Covid test last year a Covid case, and refused to set standards for the number of cycles for a PCR Covid test to be considered valid, even though many scientists including the inventor of the PCR process said the 30,40,45 cycles used by some labs rendered those tests unreliable.
This year, when they are counting Covid cases of vaccinated people (breakthrough cases), the CDC has established the standard that a PCR case will only be counted if it was done in 28 cycles or less, and even positive tests under that new standard will only count if it results in hospitalization or death (all positive cases of people who are asymptomatic or with minor symptoms won’t count for breakthrough cases like they have for regular cases).
How is that not a valid use of the phrase “cooking the books”?
It was our understanding the don trump was president from Jan 2017 until Jan 2021. He appointed conservative Republican Dr Brenda Fitzgerald as head of the CDC in 2017 but it was revealed she, like her boss, was a grifter, and she resigned Jan 2018. trump then appointed conservative Republican Dr Robert Redfield as Director of the CDC.
In the 90s, the US Army found Dr Redfield had an “inappropriate” close relationship with the non-governmental group “Americans for a Sound AIDS/HIV Policy” (ASAP), which promoted the gp160 vaccine (which turned out to be ineffective). The group was founded by evangelical Christians who worked to contain the HIV/AIDS outbreak by advocating for abstinence before marriage, rather than the use of condoms. Redfield was a prominent advocate for the ABCs of AIDS doctrine, which promoted abstinence primarily and condoms only a last resort.
So why would trump appoint a right-wing ideologue to lead the CDC if he didn’t want him to lead the CDC?
Is it your argument that the CDC “padded” the numbers of infected Americans and of dead Americans by 100s of thousands until November 4 and then cut back to the real values? Do you think the hospitalization numbers were also faked?
