   New York Gov. Kathy Hochul promised more government transparency on her first day in office and by day’s end her administration had quietly delivered it by acknowledging nearly 12,000 more deaths in the state from COVID-19 than had been publicized by her predecessor, Andrew Cuomo.
   New York now reports nearly 55,400 people have died of COVID-19 in New York based on death certificate data submitted to the CDC, up from about 43,400 that Gov. Cuomo had reported to the public as of Monday, his last day in office.

   In this study unvaccinated were about 5 times more likely to be infected and 29 times more likely to be hospitalized than the fully vaccinated.

   During May 1–July 25, 2021, among 43,127 SARS-CoV-2 infections in residents of Los Angeles County, California, 10,895 (25.3%) were in fully vaccinated persons, 1,431 (3.3%) were in partially vaccinated persons, and 30,801 (71.4%) were in unvaccinated persons. On July 25, infection and hospitalization rates among unvaccinated persons were 4.9 and 29.2 times, respectively, those in fully vaccinated persons. In July, when the Delta variant was predominant, cycle threshold values were similar for unvaccinated, partially vaccinated, and vaccinated persons.

   The overall effectiveness of the vaccines appears to be slipping, either because of less activity against the Delta variant or because of a weakened immune response from the vaccine. This is why you’ve heard talk regarding booster shots.

   This may explain why the current vaccines are better at preventing hospitalizations (serious infections) than at preventing infection.

   N.B. – Scientific manuscripts deposited in biorxiv have NOT yet been peer reviewed.

   Although the initial antibody response may have dropped, memory immune cells are mobilized with a new infection to produce a potent immune response.
