Democrats Electric Vehicle Push Looks More Like Politics Than Science

It’s not surprising that Democrats are attempting to force citizens into driving expensive, limiting EVs. There’s only one “choice” that they like. Everything else must be dictated by Government. This looks more like a sop to the unions that vote Democrat

Democrats’ electric vehicle push sparks intense lobbying fight

Electric vehicleDemocrats’ effort to spur electric vehicle (EV) adoption has set off an intense lobbying battle on Capitol Hill as car manufacturers jockey for influence over legislation that will shape the industry’s future.

Automakers generally back President Biden’s green energy plan, which would spend billions of government dollars to construct charging stations across the nation and expand incentives that lessen the cost of buying an EV. But they’re sharply divided over a key tax credit component of the proposal.

Under the legislation advanced by the House Ways and Means Committee last month, most EVs would qualify for a $7,500 tax credit. But union-built EVs assembled in the U.S. would receive an additional $4,500 in credits.

Only Ford Motor Co., General Motors Co. and Stellantis NV, Chrysler’s parent company, would benefit from the extra incentive, as union workers assemble most of their EVs in U.S. plants. The proposal effectively leaves other automakers, including Tesla Inc., the nation’s main EV manufacturer, at a $4,500 per vehicle disadvantage.

The provision has drawn outrage from car manufacturers that do not have unionized workforces, including Honda Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp., which blasted the legislative language as “blatantly biased” and “discriminatory.”

Of course, tax credits are not actually cash, and are so complicated that no one is quite sure how they work and to contact your tax professional. And, of course they’re trying to push unions. Despite a history of making lower quality vehicles

Autos Drive America, a trade group that represents most major foreign-owned automakers such as Honda, Toyota and Volkswagen Group, is running TV advertisements in Washington, D.C., urging lawmakers to reject the pro-union measure.

“Carmakers are racing to get more EVs on the road, but Congress’s sweetheart deal for unions would take most of today’s EVs off the table for many American families,” the group’s most recent ad tells viewers.

And those foreign vehicles, most of which are assembled in the US, and Tesla, are much better vehicles overall than the domestics.

While the auto industry is divided on some issues, it’s united behind Democrats’ proposal to end an existing provision that phases out tax credits after a manufacturer reaches 200,000 EV sales. Carmakers are also pushing Democrats to ax a proposed cap on EV tax credits for customers with incomes of $400,000 or more and a measure that limits the EV tax credit to cars that cost $55,000 or less.

The Zero Emission Transportation Association, which lobbies for luxury EV makers such as Tesla, Rivian and Lucid Motors, argues that the price limit would “force manufacturers to produce lower range, less desirable vehicles, which diminishes the consumer experience and will slow EV adoption.”

Why does this look more like a push to help the big donors for the Democrats? And, the argument is that automakers will make crummy, low mileage vehicles. Huh.

Teach hates unions so much that he now recommends Tesla, Honda and Toyota over Ford and Chevrolet! Why does Teach hate America??

    All political, all the time!

Teach places this in a text box as if it’s part of The Hill article. It isn’t. Now, it’s true that Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Hyundai and Kia pay more attention to quality than Ford, GM, Chrysler, BMW and Mercedes, but the differences are not great.

If you weren’t so politically twisted you’d be sad, but you are just pathetic. Where in Teach’s comment do you see him “recommending” Tesla, Honda and Toyota over Ford? He gives his opinion but recommends nothing. You, OTOH, state as fact that ” Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Hyundai and Kia pay more attention to quality than Ford, GM, Chrysler, BMW and Mercedes, but the differences are not great.”. So now aside from being a Fauxi flu expert you are an expert on all cars including how great the differences are among them? But you do admit the foreign makers build better products than American “but the differences are not great.” Do you know one of the major reasons foreign manufacturers build better products than American do? Labor Unions! The rise of power for labor unions in the US coincide with the decline in quality of every industry they infiltrated and no example is greater than that of American automobile manufacturing. It culminated in the 1970’s when after diving the manufacturers to the brink of bankruptcy and many into bankruptcy AMC, Kaiser, Studebaker etc. they used their leverage and corrupt relationship to have companies bailed out to continue the gravy train on the taxpayers dime. Finally they sucked all the life and cash out of the business the auto industry (like many, may others) moved over seas to countries that practiced free markets.

So if you’re still looking “for the Union Label” of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union or trying to get any of dozens of manufacturing and assembly jobs done in the US and can’t find any takers than thank the demofascists and their commie collaborators the unions. One of the few small/middle businesses that managed to create American jobs and stay solvent is one you hate most; My Pillow. You hate Lindell because you hate his politics and as you stated in your comment above: “All political, all the time!” (Another of your usual projections) Still the hypocrite and still the fake expert on everything. Oh, and still the fascist liar.

Furthermore, Teach has a right to hate unions just as much as you have the right to back those business destroying, corrupt, nepotistic throw-backs to the early 20th century. There is no need for unions any longer except to destroy American industry (as they have the steel, auto and clothing industries to name a few) in our modern democrat run neofascist America. The government agencies and their “experts” you are always quoting should have a handle on workers rights and safety and if they don’t they should be abolished. Any organization aligning itself with the corrupt demofascists is A-OK in your book. That would be Mein Kompf I assume or the Communist Manifesto.

    This is the fun quote:

“Carmakers are racing to get more EVs on the road, but Congress’s sweetheart deal for unions would take most of today’s EVs off the table for many American families,” the group’s most recent ad tells viewers.

Translation: without the $7,500 tax credit, plug-in electric vehicles just won’t sell; even the $4,500 tax credit isn’t enough.

New car buyers tend to be significantly better off; most Americans do have to be concerned about price, and wind up financing their automobile purchases rather than being able to just write a check. Those Americans who buy the electrics and get those tax credits are going to be mostly better off, which makes the tax credits just more welfare for the well-to-do. Not that this is a surprise, of course; the same thing was done with the ‘cash for clunkers’ program of a decade ago.
