Dem Stabenow Is Fine With High Gas Prices Because She Has An EV

Just wondering if anyone in the media demanded she show it to them, as well as providing proof of something else

Michigan Democrat brags about driving expensive electric car to DC, avoiding gas stations amid historic prices

Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., on Tuesday bragged about buying an expensive electric vehicle amid a global semiconductor chip shortage and being able to bypass historically high gas prices on her road trip to Washington, D.C.

Stabenow briefly weighed in on gas prices, which hit a national average of $4.94 per gallon Tuesday, during Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s testimony before the Senate Finance Committee on President Biden’s 2023 budget.

“I do have to say, just on the issue of gas prices, after waiting for a long time to have enough chips in this country to finally get my electric vehicle,” the senator said. “I got it and drove it from Michigan to here this last weekend and went by every single gas station, and it didn’t matter how high it was.

“And so I’m looking forward to the opportunity for us to move to vehicles that aren’t going to be dependent on the whims of the oil companies and the international markets,” she added.

It’s an almost 10 hour drive from Lansing, Michigan, to D.C., and that’s without traffic and stops, including the long stops to charge. Does anyone think she took that drive? Or is the big money on her having taken a fossil fueled flight? Anyhow, it’s so nice to see the rich elites not giving a flying rat’s ass about average Americans suffering.

Meanwhile, via Watts Up With That? and Climate Depot, we have the NY Times super excited about inflation and high gas prices

They’re trying to force Americans to give up meat, and super happy that inflation is around to try and force change.

Yeah, I believe her, because she knows that there will be people checking on her in DC, to see what she drives.

Senatrix Stabenow said, “I got it and drove it from Michigan to here this last weekend and went by every single gas station, and it didn’t matter how high it was.” Well, that’s almost certainly true as well, but she also had to stop at a recharging station along the way; there are no electric vehicles with a 585 mile range. And if she started with a full charge, and made only one recharging stop along the way, she was driving with a nearly flat can when she got to DC, and a prudent driver would have made a second recharging stop; you can never be sure you won’t hit a traffic tie-up around DC.

Were I to drive it in my 2010 F-150, I could have made it without stopping for fuel, but I’d have less than a quarter tank when I arrived; I’m not stupid enough to try to drive through northern Virginia or the Washington suburbs in Maryland low on fuel. But I’d have been able to make it with one stop, probably around Frederick, Maryland, which would take less than 10 minutes to refuel.

Global fossil fuel prices are skyrocketing. We must and will pay the globalmarket price

Only 2 countries can significantly increase oil production UAE and Saudi Arabia. UAE says peak price is going up a lot. Maybe Trump shouldn’t have asked them 2 years ago to cut production by 25% ? ?

If you want an electric car, it’s probably saner to just rent a gas/diesel car for a road trip. Or stash a portable generator in the trunk. 🙂

Sen Stabenow, assuming she actually drove from MI to DC and didn’t have a driver shuttle her EV between photo ops, didn’t provide any details about the timing of her trip and charging stops as well as probable overnight stopping due to extra time involved with charging. Just the typical elitist comment about not being concerned about gas prices (unlike the peasants) as she drove past service stations.
By the way, an average price for a Tesla would be around $88k, with the nicer ones between $100k and $200K. Base on a Model 3 (not your typical elitist ride) is about $47,680 earlier this year, just above the “average new car price”. We aren’t discussing econo-boxes here.
