Hey, if they want to go, well, bye now. Take your baby killing ways with you (behind the paywall LA Times piece here)
Column: As professionals flee antiabortion policies, red states face a brain drain
A few days ago, a university headhunter reached out to Elizabeth T. Jacobs, a professor of epidemiology at the University of Arizona, to gauge her interest in moving to a leading university in Texas.
Under normal circumstances and in professional terms, the opportunity would have seemed intriguing. “It was an attractive situation,” Jacobs told me. “It was at an institution I have a lot of respect for, and I would not have dismissed it out of hand.”
But the political environment in Texas is not normal, in Jacobs’ view. She informed the recruiter that “under the current state leadership I didn’t think my family would be safe in that state.” (snip)
Really, no state is going to prosecute for saving the life of a mother in a real medical emergency, and Texas’ law allows for such. Texas, though, differs in what they consider a medical emergency, which is when a life is truly in danger, from the abortion supporters, who see not being able to go to the club and party because of a pregnancy as a medical emergency
University faculty members in red states are publicly expressing concerns about the impact of exclusionary right-wing policies on their efforts to attract students and recruit qualified people to their institutions. Some have put out public feelers soliciting job offers from states with less-restrictive abortion laws.
“As of tomorrow, I am on the open market,” University of Utah neuroscientist Bryan William Jones tweeted June 24, the day the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade, the 1973 decision that established a constitutional right to abortion. Jones said he would be willing to bring his 12 lab members, of whom eight are women, with him. “I will not endanger my team,” he wrote.
Well, see ya. Enjoy the high taxes, high cost of living, high crime, and high controls on your life in the Blue states. And never come back.
Quality of life is a major issue in recruitment discussions, says David Williamson Shaffer, an education professor at the University of Wisconsin who successfully hired a candidate last year who was also being wooed by Stanford and Harvard.
Being able to get an abortion because of irresponsible behavior is a quality of life issue? Have fun walking through the drug needles, pee, and poop while dodging homeless people to your tiny apartment you can barely afford.
At the end of the day, how many will really, truly leave? Probably not a lot, especially those who escaped the hellhole of Blue states. Unfortunately. Let them all go.
Our distinguished host quoted:
Quality of whose life? Apparently not the life of a child in the womb!
Leftists really, really, REALLY HATE the idea of people being free to elect the representatives they want and pass the laws they want.
With leftists it’s everything or nothing. They refuse to compromise so they must be exterminated. There is not one state that will make abortion illegal in every case. Not one. But that’s not good enough. If they can’t use prenatal genocide as birth control up to and including birth they all scream they are having their rights taken away. Democracy dies under demofascist rule every time.

Commenter: There is not one state that will make abortion illegal in every case. Not one.
The reactionaries are not finished yet. IF the right gets their way and a fertilized egg/zygote/embryo/fetus is declared a “person” with the rights of all Americans than all abortions should be illegal!
Commenter: They (left,Dems, libs) refuse to compromise so they must be exterminated.
This is the objective of the white nationalist, authoritarian right – extermination of the non-believers.
Teach of course you are entitled to your own opinions but not your own “facts” most of the states with the lowest crime rates are blue most of the ststes with the highest crime rates sre red
Most of the richest most educated states are blue the poorest and least educated are Red
The Bible is quite explicit about when life begins.Genesis 2-7 Life begins with the first breath
This is the basis of legal abortion in Israel
First, we are not Israel and Israel runs on the Jewish Bible not our Christian one. Stop quoting Jews and applying it to Christians.
Now that you did crime rates and wealth of red/blue states how about doing cities? You do realize the “blue” states are carried by just a few industries and/or businesses as well as population. Has nothing to do with how they vote though how they vote has much to do about who they are. If you do it by city you will find crime, drugs, unemployment, lower IQ, and a shit load more demographics are wholly owned by the blue cities.
You may not like the fact that people are leaving blue states but they are. BTW, just because people are college educated does not mean they are smart. Take you and Elwood as examples. Can you do what a carpenter, electrician, plumber, rancher, farmer do? The blue states would slide into anarchy and war once those dumb red states decided to remove their food, electricity, fuel, construction etc. You value wealth, not ability and therefore call rich people “wealthy and educated”. They are just slime like you living off the labor of us producers.
When the fuel ain’t being pumped and the food disappears from the shelves and the trucks don’t roll we’ll see just how rich and smart you commies really are. The blue cities and states will rip themselves apart as your feral pets tear you to pieces for cheese and cigarettes. And we’ll laugh.

Hairy, how God creates life and how Man creates life is not the same thing.
If a ‘neuroscientist’ thinks Roe v Wade established a ‘constitutional right’ to anything, I would question the quality of his education. He should have learned the basics in high school civics. The SCOTUS ruling merely sent the issue back to the states for the people to decide how their state would deal with abortion as it was not proscribed as a federal issue.
The clown from Utah is concerned about the way his staff would be treated. Utah is totally controlled by Mormons, fairly controlling from my experience.
Seems to me the leftards are taking a big risk trying to make abortion a federal issue. The fifth amendment says…
So if the Supremes made any decision other than sending it back to the states, they should ban abortion altogether. Same thing if the Congress tries to pass some sort of Federal level abortion approval. I guess it depends on what the Court decides a “person” is, and what “due process” means in this case.
I’ve thought for some time that there needs to be a “zeroth” amendment that defines terms for the others. At least that would keep people so busy arguing about those definitions, that they wouldn’t have time to screw up much else. :-)
There is no federal power to make abortion or gay marriage a national law. Therefore, both are up to the states. As they should be. It is not up to Hairy or Dowd to determine what we in Florida want our laws to be.
Should the demofascists in Congress decide to throw a hissy fit because every single state and person in every single corner of the US has decided to disagree with them it will be unconstitutional for the same reason RvW was. Congress has no power over abortion or marriage. They are both states rights issues. Why is that so hard for commies to understand?
The only law Congress can pass that will give it power over abortion or gay marriage would be a constitutional amendment giving the feds power over pre natal genocide and marriage and that would require a constitutional convention. I don’t think the majority of Americans want to give the unstable loons in the demofascist party that power. Do you?
