17 States Considering Following California’s EV Mandate

What do their voters think? Will they go alone with this little scheme?

17 states weigh adopting California’s electric car mandate

Seventeen states with vehicle emission standards tied to rules established in California face weighty decisions on whether to follow that state’s strictest-in-the nation new rules that require all new cars, pickups and SUVs to be electric or hydrogen powered by 2035.

Under the Clean Air Act, states must abide by the federal government’s standard vehicle emissions standards unless they at least partially opt to follow California’s stricter requirements.

Among them, Washington, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon and Vermont are expected to adopt California’s ban on new gasoline-fueled vehicles. Colorado and Pennsylvania are among the states that probably won’t. The legal ground is a bit murkier in Minnesota, where the state’s “Clean Cars” rule has been a political minefield and the subject of a legal fight. Meanwhile, Republicans are rebelling in Virginia.

The Minnesota Auto Dealers Association says its reading of state and federal law is that the new California rules kick in automatically in the state, and it’s making that case in court as it tries to block them.

“The technology is such that the vehicles just don’t perform that well in cold weather,” said Scott Lambert, the trade group’s president. “We don’t all live in southern California.”

How is that one state can dictate how the other 49 act? Could this lead to lawsuits against the Clean Air Act for violating the terms of the 10th Amendment? What will many states do?

“We are not California. Minnesota has its own plan,” Gov. Tim Walz said in a statement. He called Minnesota’s program “a smart way to increase, rather than decrease, options for consumers. Our priority is to lower costs and increase choices so Minnesotans can drive whatever vehicle suits them.”

Amazing that the state must develop a plan to fight off the Big Government folks trying to take away consumer choices

Oregon regulators are taking public comments through Sept. 7 on whether to adopt the new California standards. Colorado regulators, who adopted California’s older rules, won’t follow California’s new ones, the administration of Democratic Gov. Jared Polis said.

Interesting with Colorado. What will the people of Oregon decide? They’ve shot down climate scam rules several times. Pennsylvania and Virginia are looking to divorce them from those rules.

Under federal law, by Lambert’s reading, states have to either adopt California’s rules in full or follow less stringent federal emission standards. He said they can’t pick and choose from parts of each. And that effectively means there’s a “ban on the books” in Minnesota for sales of new conventionally fueled vehicles starting with the 2035 model year, he said.

If EVs are so great, why aren’t all the people pushing for them driving them?

    If we are SEMI-FASCISTS

I wonder what that makes Leftists or AGW Nazi’s. Opps my bad, I think I intentionally injected a word that might describe the left and the AGW lunatics.

I admire the GOAL of GREENIES. I mean who doesn’t want clean energy and a pollution-free world?

I just do not admire the goose stepping they are willing to embark upon to get their way. I have to ask who benefits from the GREEN agenda and I can’t stop coming to the same conclusion.

    Billionaires and CHINA.

The WEF or new world order believes in using AGW to dictate to the world. China is using AGW to mandate that their competition give up its power. Energy is power. Energy that fuels weapons is power. The USA and the EU at one time was awash in power.

With the marching of the AGW nazi’s the USA and the EU are fast become paupers in this NEW WORLD ORDER.

2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV 250+ range MSRP 26,600 about 50% less than the AVERAGE price of a new car sold in the USA
Prices for electricity in the USA over the last 25 years have averaged <3% increase per year. Generation costs for green power are low around 6 cents per kwh for last utility contracts signed.

Which is a meaningless comparison; how does the Chevy Dolt compare in price to comparable new cars, not Cadillacs and Ford F-250s?

Prices for electricity in the USA over the last 25 years have averaged <3% increase per year.

From the United States Energy Information Administration:

We forecast the U.S. residential electricity price will average 14.6 cents per kilowatthour (kWh) in 2022, up 6.1% from 2021. Higher retail electricity prices largely reflect an increase in wholesale power prices driven by rising natural gas prices. Annual average wholesale prices for 2022 range from an average of $62 per megawatthour (MWh) in Florida to $95/MWh in the ISO New England and New York ISO markets.

You can’t use the low inflation of the last 25 years to justify anything when inflation has skyrocketed under the policies of the current administration! Well, maybe you can, when you are trying to fool weak minds, but try that s(tuff) here, and you’ll get called on it.

Generation costs for green power are low around 6 cents per kwh for last utility contracts signed.

While ‘renewables’ power generation, exclusive of hydro-electric power, are expected to rise to roughly 17%, that’s still a minor part of electric power generation capacity in the United States. You will be charging your Chevy Dolt from sparktricity that will be roughly 37% produced from burning natural gas and 20% from burning coal. You can add another 20% from nuclear power.

Of course, when the weather gets too hot, or too cold, the utility companies will be telling you not to recharge your Dolt at home, where it will be cheapest, but during non-peak hours, so as not to strain the infrastructure.

Checking the sales figures it looks like the Bolt isn’t doing well at all?

        It’s downright shocking. https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_wink.gif

Almost all major car manufacturers have said that they will end manufacturing fossil fueled vehicles by 2035.

Hey Hairy, can you possibly put out a comment that is not only stupid but not provably wrong within five minutes? Please? You have created a situation where I don’t even read a lot of your crap because I know you get it from CNN. It’s all garbage. Com on, man!

John-why do we need EVs, and if they’re so good, why does the government need to bribe us to buy them?
When the world switched from land lines to smart phones, do you remember the government bribing us to switch? Funny, neither do I…

    • L'Roy White says:

Any time the government tells the people they “have to” regarding a consumer product be it vaccine to EV’s you can rest assured collusion, conspiracy and corruption is in play.

Just look at any mandatory gov. purchase program and you’ll see investors, partners or lobbyists involved with politicians, deep state operatives or corporate shills. Even go betweens and phony “corp. officers” like Hunter get the grift, why can’t the EV lovers?

If I owned a Burger King and could get a law passed everybody must eat Whoppers and close down Big Macs by using the power of government what would you say? Think about who owns and benefits from the science denying cult of climate and perhaps you’ll get an idea of why it’s a grift.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Does that apply to government contractors too? Obviously, governments hire outside firms to construct buildings, dams, airports, seawalls, guns, missiles, tanks and roads. Are they all corrupt too?

Are the old timey vaccines, smallpox, polio, DipTet etc required for school kids and soldiers also part of the grift?

        • L'Roy White says:

They’re part of the grift if their hands are in the cookie jar. Look at Fauci. Was he part of the grift? Look at BLM stealing millions from poor blacks like me. Are they part of the grift? How many congresscritters are in on insider trading?

You bitch about Trump who was a billionaire when elected but you’re silent about people earning $175k a year in congress retiring multi millionaires. Ho’d that happen. Then bureaucrat players retire with big public pensions and go work for CNN. Yeah, that’s impartial, right?

You are so corrupt you can’t even see the corruption all around you.

The green people even acknowledge that their efforts will do little to change the climate and, from my knowledge, little effort is put into reforming India, Africa, and China. Then there is no effort to recapture carbon, the only answer is global communism.
