LA Times: Americans Don’t Care About Climate Doom Or Something

This has given LA Times columnist Nicholas Goldberg a big sad

Nicholas Goldberg: Americans don’t care about climate change. Here’s how to wake them up

Why is the greatest threat to the planet of so little concern to most Americans?

It couldn’t possibly be due to the fact that those pushing this the hardest seem to always fail to mention what they’ve done in their own lives, could it? That they show themselves as climahypocrites? That they want Other People to be forced to practice the beliefs that the Warmists won’t?

It’s shocking, frankly, that global warming ranks 24th on a list of 29 issues that voters say they’ll think about when deciding whom to vote for in November, according to the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication. Only 30% of voters say they are “very worried” about it and more than two-thirds say they “rarely” or “never” discuss the issue with family or friends.

No, it really isn’t. When a slight increase in global temperatures in 170 years is matched up against real issues it loses. Many care about it in theory, but, not in practice. And this is after 30+ years of fearmongering, which has really gotten bad over the last 10 or so

How can people be so blithely unconcerned when the clear consensus of scientists is that climate disruption is reaching crisis levels and will result not only in more raging storms, droughts, wildfires and heat waves, but very possibly in famine, mass migration, collapsing economies and war?

Because science is not consensus, and, if it was all so bad, people like Nicholas would tell us how they’ve started driving an EV and made their lives carbon neutral. I’ve read a lot of ‘climate change’ articles over the years. A lot. And of all those, perhaps less than .5% mention what these people have actually done in their own lives.

In his forthcoming book, “The Activist’s Media Handbook,” due out in November, David Fenton says that the forces trying to rouse the world to fight climate change — including philanthropic foundations, environmental organizations and activist groups, among others — have by and large ignored the most rudimentary tenets of marketing and advertising, to their detriment and the planet’s.

That’s because they believe that the business of selling ideas is fundamentally dirty, manipulative and beneath them.

They’re convinced that data, truth and evidence are what matter, Fenton says. To them (and we’re talking here about lots of well-intentioned lawyers, scientists and people who studied the humanities), good ideas sell themselves.

But, see, they don’t provide data, truth, and evidence. They rely on scaremongering, doomsaying, computer models, crystal ball, and a failure to, yes, practice what they preach. And, among the same old ideas, such as keeping the message simple, Nicholas never recommends that practicing what you preach idea.

  1. With a guesstimated annual salary of $88,663, and net worth of $845,000, and a wife, Amy Wilentz — who didn’t respect her husband enough to take his name — who earns a similar salary from The Nation as well as being an English Professor at the University of California at Irvine, perhaps the distinguished Mr Goldberg doesn’t truly understand that working-class Americans might be more concerned with paying the rent, keeping the sparktricity turned on, and food on the table now than they are in projections of doom fifty and eighty years in the future.

The year-over-year inflation rate in August was 8.3%, and while that’s slightly down from the 8.5% in July, it’s still on top of the 5.3% inflation rate in August of 2021; Americans are poorer, in real terms, than they were two years ago.

Then they read what the global warming climate change emergency activists want to do, and all they can see are more expenses falling on them: a wholly rebuilt electricity grid for which they’ll have to pay, plug-in electric cars which cost more than gasoline-powered ones, power restrictions that don’t allow you to recharge your Chevy Dolt at home and government requests, along with some actual action to force you to set your thermostats higher in the summer and lower in the winter, heating costs projected to rise 17.2% this coming winter, and the last thing that they want are the programs of the global warming climate change emergency activists making them poorer.

  2. James Lewis says:

The KWH price of electricity from my local utility, which merely passes on TVA’s price, has jumped 33.3%.

Natural gas is up around 90%.
    .
Those are in addition to $2.00 per galloon gasoline jumping to $4.40 before slowly falling to $3.50.

Not to mention food prices up around 20%.

And the idiot Lefties think I should be concerned about “global warming?”

Hell. I’m worried about “house warming.”

“Why is the greatest threat to the planet of so little concern?”. Maybe because there’s no proof that it’s the greatest threat. Funny how science works that way

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

What proof would convince the deniers?

      • James Lewis says:

        Dear Elwood:

Well, the forecast of FL being underwater by now actually happening would be a start.

        https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_yahoo.gif

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

          Lewis,

So to be clear you were told that FL would be underwater by now?

Coastal communities have been spending $100s of millions raising seawalls, buildings and roads and installing flood pumps and improve drainage. Are they just being naive?

No doubt you can find extremists who claimed that FL would be underwater by now.

          • david7134 says:

            Jeff,
You are lying again. Coastal communities take measures like you describe constantly, it has nothing to do with your myth or the carbon god.https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cry.gif

      • david7134 says:

        Jeff,
We have told you many times that you present a hypothesis and the proofs necessary. We are not responsible for proof that a trace gas causes harm.

Red state Republican legislatures are asleep at the switch in protecting their citizens, and have been for decades.

        Pups,
Do you understand the point the dipshit is making? What does any of that have to do with the intentional destruction of our country by Biden and the Dems? Trump tried to make our country and our lives better, the Dems just desire a policy of destruction.

        • CarolAnn says:

Again Elwood shows his cruel, bigoted anti working man hate based on who a person votes for. He is a true “Martha’s Vineyards” kinda elitist. He thinks he’s better than everyone else.

He ridicules based on prejudice but makes no suggestions at how to end that so called inflation the he tries to pin on “red state legislatures”. What would he do???? He paints with a broad brush Elwood the bigot does. Now let’s discuss the median incomes of blue cities.

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

CarolAnn is triggered again by facts.

Why do YOU think the median household income in red states is lower than in blue states?

CarolAnn typed: let’s discuss the median incomes of blue cities

            Good idea.

          • Doom and Gloom says:

Dowd the cost of living in Red States is less than in blue states.

That is everywhere but in the concrete jungles of red or blue states which is where all leftist snowflakes congregate and think the world is a steaming hot mess of lunacy and should be tamed. Where you live drastically affects how you perceive the world. Right now Russians don’t think the world is too great at this moment. Ukrainians feel the same. It appears Californians and NY’ers are also getting the blues as they flee the state in droves for Texas, Arizona, and Florida.

My wife once worked for a major department store, in a red state, where she was making 7.00 per hour. This was about 25 years ago. We moved to a blue state. Her new starting pay after transferring from the old store in a Red State to the Blue state store was now 9.50 per hour.

In addition, our 2250 sq. ft brick house was sold for 79,200 dollars before leaving the old red state. Our new house(similar, but only partially brick and a bit smaller) was purchased for 156,650. in the Blue State.

The reason median incomes in red states are lower is that typically the cost of living is less and therefore employers have to pay less to keep employees happy.

This is one example in my life as we have moved several times from Red State to Blue state and vice versa. We have lived in New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Michigan, Washington, California, Hawaii, North Carolina, Georgia, etc., It was and is always much, much cheaper to live in the Red states Vs. The Blue States.

Lower cost of living equals lower median income. You can find lists that are always exaggerated but I can tell you without a doubt that living in Red States is much cheaper all the way around and usually results in lower pay. Housing is a classic example of this. Other things are typically relative. IE. Living on the coast gets you cheap seafood. Living in Colorado gets you expensive sea food.

      • Doom and Gloom says:

LOL. Dowd is just a Chinese Troll. Possibly an FBI troll.

His sole mission at this website is to piss people off.

I too would like to know how inflation is worse for a state with a median income that is one hundred dollars per year less than the national average.https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_wacko.gif

        • ChiCom P. Dowd says:

Or maybe we’re Chinese-FBI trolls!! Brandon (The Big Guy) has thousands of Chinese/FBI paid agents to monitor and disrupt nuCon blogs. Up to $120 per comment, depending on the blog readership. Conservabloggers pay into the fund on a sliding scale depending on traffic, since lib commenters increase clicks! In essence, Teach pays us to enrage you!

Anyway, I’m not responsible that facts and contrary opinions trigger connie anger. Connies, who are fundamentally insecure, tend to maintain a low boil anyway. Fear makes you anxious and hypervigilant, ready to attack with little provocation. Maybe it’s you.

It’s like tRump threatening that his brownshirts will start murdering if he is held accountable for crimes.

  7. L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! says:

According to dowd’s list it seems the blue states are really taking advantage of and exploiting the red states as usual. Then in his next comment he’ll wax about how the poor are getting poorer all while HIS ILLEGAL fuhrer loads up the inflation on the poor.

It’s amazing how the mind of a leftist thief and liar ignores the truth and thinks itself virtuous. Just like those marthas vineyard shitheads.

    MAGA

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Lujak reveals his ignorance of economics. But then his ignorance is deep and wide. As Lujak knows, blue states send more tax monies to the feds than do red states and that red states receive more federal largesse than blues. Why states managed by Republics perform so poorly is debated. It could be that red states favor the capital class more than workers. It could be that red states discourage education and public health measures. It could be red staters have become so dependent on federal support that they’ve become lazy. It could be the residents there are just genetically or culturally inferior to blue staters.

Rimjob: Inflation is worse for those states.

So dipshit, how is 8.3% Bidenflation “worse” for “those” states?

C’mon you’re the economic genius here.

          Wow, Porter’s labdog asked a pseudo-appearing ‘grown-up’ question!!

So, you are seriously asking how inflation is ‘worse’ for citizens in states (e.g., MS) with a median household income of $46,511 vs citizens in states (e.g., MD) with a median household income of $87,063? Your question makes sense if you don’t think about it.
