Why is the greatest threat to the planet of so little concern to most Americans?
It couldn’t possibly be due to the fact that those pushing this the hardest seem to always fail to mention what they’ve done in their own lives, could it? That they show themselves as climahypocrites? That they want Other People to be forced to practice the beliefs that the Warmists won’t?
It’s shocking, frankly, that global warming ranks 24th on a list of 29 issues that voters say they’ll think about when deciding whom to vote for in November, according to the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication. Only 30% of voters say they are “very worried” about it and more than two-thirds say they “rarely” or “never” discuss the issue with family or friends.
No, it really isn’t. When a slight increase in global temperatures in 170 years is matched up against real issues it loses. Many care about it in theory, but, not in practice. And this is after 30+ years of fearmongering, which has really gotten bad over the last 10 or so
How can people be so blithely unconcerned when the clear consensus of scientists is that climate disruption is reaching crisis levels and will result not only in more raging storms, droughts, wildfires and heat waves, but very possibly in famine, mass migration, collapsing economies and war?
Because science is not consensus, and, if it was all so bad, people like Nicholas would tell us how they’ve started driving an EV and made their lives carbon neutral. I’ve read a lot of ‘climate change’ articles over the years. A lot. And of all those, perhaps less than .5% mention what these people have actually done in their own lives.
In his forthcoming book, “The Activist’s Media Handbook,” due out in November, David Fenton says that the forces trying to rouse the world to fight climate change — including philanthropic foundations, environmental organizations and activist groups, among others — have by and large ignored the most rudimentary tenets of marketing and advertising, to their detriment and the planet’s.
That’s because they believe that the business of selling ideas is fundamentally dirty, manipulative and beneath them.
They’re convinced that data, truth and evidence are what matter, Fenton says. To them (and we’re talking here about lots of well-intentioned lawyers, scientists and people who studied the humanities), good ideas sell themselves.
But, see, they don’t provide data, truth, and evidence. They rely on scaremongering, doomsaying, computer models, crystal ball, and a failure to, yes, practice what they preach. And, among the same old ideas, such as keeping the message simple, Nicholas never recommends that practicing what you preach idea.
With a guesstimated annual salary of $88,663, and net worth of $845,000, and a wife, Amy Wilentz — who didn’t respect her husband enough to take his name — who earns a similar salary from The Nation as well as being an English Professor at the University of California at Irvine, perhaps the distinguished Mr Goldberg doesn’t truly understand that working-class Americans might be more concerned with paying the rent, keeping the sparktricity turned on, and food on the table now than they are in projections of doom fifty and eighty years in the future.
The year-over-year inflation rate in August was 8.3%, and while that’s slightly down from the 8.5% in July, it’s still on top of the 5.3% inflation rate in August of 2021; Americans are poorer, in real terms, than they were two years ago.
Then they read what the
global warmingclimatechangeemergency activists want to do, and all they can see are more expenses falling on them: a wholly rebuilt electricity grid for which they’ll have to pay, plug-in electric cars which cost more than gasoline-powered ones, power restrictions that don’t allow you to recharge your Chevy Dolt at home and government requests, along with some actual action to force you to set your thermostats higher in the summer and lower in the winter, heating costs projected to rise 17.2% this coming winter, and the last thing that they want are the programs of theglobal warmingclimatechangeemergency activists making them poorer.The KWH price of electricity from my local utility, which merely passes on TVA’s price, has jumped 33.3%.
Natural gas is up around 90%.

Those are in addition to $2.00 per galloon gasoline jumping to $4.40 before slowly falling to $3.50.

That is everywhere but in the concrete jungles of red or blue states which is where all leftist snowflakes congregate and think the world is a steaming hot mess of lunacy and should be tamed. Where you live drastically affects how you perceive the world. Right now Russians don’t think the world is too great at this moment. Ukrainians feel the same. It appears Californians and NY’ers are also getting the blues as they flee the state in droves for Texas, Arizona, and Florida.
My wife once worked for a major department store, in a red state, where she was making 7.00 per hour. This was about 25 years ago. We moved to a blue state. Her new starting pay after transferring from the old store in a Red State to the Blue state store was now 9.50 per hour.
In addition, our 2250 sq. ft brick house was sold for 79,200 dollars before leaving the old red state. Our new house(similar, but only partially brick and a bit smaller) was purchased for 156,650. in the Blue State.
The reason median incomes in red states are lower is that typically the cost of living is less and therefore employers have to pay less to keep employees happy.
This is one example in my life as we have moved several times from Red State to Blue state and vice versa. We have lived in New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Michigan, Washington, California, Hawaii, North Carolina, Georgia, etc., It was and is always much, much cheaper to live in the Red states Vs. The Blue States.
Lower cost of living equals lower median income. You can find lists that are always exaggerated but I can tell you without a doubt that living in Red States is much cheaper all the way around and usually results in lower pay. Housing is a classic example of this. Other things are typically relative. IE. Living on the coast gets you cheap seafood. Living in Colorado gets you expensive sea food.

Why states managed by Republics perform so poorly is debated. It could be that red states favor the capital class more than workers.
