After what so many called the worst inauguration ever (don’t ask me. I was working, and I never watch them. Can’t stand all the pomp and circumstance), President Barry, after a couple Marlboro’s, made a decision. Sort of
Hours after taking office on Tuesday, U.S. President Barack Obama ordered military prosecutors in the Guantanamo war crimes tribunals to ask for a 120-day halt in all pending cases.
Military judges were expected to rule on the request on Wednesday at the U.S. naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, an official involved in the trials said.
The request would halt proceedings in 21 pending cases, including the death penalty case against five Guantanamo prisoners accused of plotting the September 11 hijacked plane attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.
“In order to permit the newly inaugurated president and his administration time to review the military commission process, generally, and the cases currently pending before the military commissions, specifically, the secretary of defense has, by order of the president directed the chief prosecutor to seek continuances of 120 days in all pending case,” prosecutor Clay Trivett said in the written request to the judges.
It will be interesting to see what he does? Does he call a halt permanently? Change the trials? They were passed by law, remember. The best thing would for Obama to declare that the US will follow the Geneva Conventions, therefore, the people at G’itmo can be held until the end of the War on Terrorism. Give a quick review of the cases. Those who were caught on the battlefield wearing no uniforms, execute them. OK, the last won’t happen, but, the first two would be wise. What is more likely, the trials will be suspended, the terrorists will be sent home (at least to those countries which will actually take them), and/or brought to domestic soil for trial. Which will often mean challenges by the defense which will give the prosecution the choice of either revealing secret information in open court or dropping the case.
AJ Strata: This is a complete waste of time and resources. These cases have been poured over many times. But Obama thinks he needs to appease the left wing nuts who think terrorists are just wayward people with a reasonable beef against America.
Gina Cobb: ….so the likely implication is that he’s attempting to buy some time for his administration to somehow solve the problem of how to close Guantanamo without immediately releasing jihadists to kill again.Â
Macsmind: 9/11 victims are outraged at any thought of closing Gitmo and of any attempt to halt justice
Oh, wait, it might be the worst inauguration ever, based on what the stock market did Tuesday.
Well, lucky you, I was working during the day, but all night had to fight to find anything to watch on TV, that was unrelated to the Obama coronation. I guess I wasn’t alone, as most of my blogger friends have similar stories. It was disheartening as well when I tuned into FOX, and caught the Dana Delaney spot interview by one of their own. if I can find it or if you can, please post it here- it was absolutely libtarded!

A sad day for the 25% of Americans that are Republicans.
18 months ago Gates said he wanted to close Gitmo I guess he should be included in the “left wing nuts” group. Teach you now seem to think that anyone who does not agree with you is a “left wing nut”
Wow Teach looks like an AWESOME day on Wall Streeet !! Obama’s first full day and the market has shot up almost 300 points !! Are you going to give credit for this to Obama ? or to Bush leaving town ? What a great way to start !! You must be so happy about this.
