What could parents be stressed about? Kids? School? Or, maybe the poor economy and kids’ declined learning from the COVID lock-downs
Parents can’t function they’re so stressed, surgeon general warns
American parents need a bailout.
Suffering from stress, money woes and loneliness more than their childless peers, nearly half of parents can barely function, according to a new report from Surgeon General Vivek Murthy.
I thought the economy was great. Didn’t Kamala say that Bidenomics during the Biden-Harris administration was working?
Murthy says government aid, in the form of child tax credits, universal preschool, early childhood education programs, paid family and medical leave, paid sick time and investments in social infrastructure, can help. That’s in line with Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ campaign pitch, but GOP contender Donald Trump is also considering how to get more cash in parents’ pockets — an issue his running mate JD Vance has championed.
“The stress and the loneliness that parents are dealing with at a disproportionate level has real implications,” Murthy told POLITICO. “We’ve got to provide more financial support.”
Chronic and excessive stress caused in part by the bills they have to pay exacerbates parents’ mental health conditions, including depression and anxiety, and can hurt children’s development.
Four in 10 parents say they’re so stressed they can’t function most days, according to Murthy’s report, with two-thirds citing financial hardship.
Where does the money come from? And what will all this addition federal spending do for inflation? Why is it the government’s job to fund all the parents? Perhaps the government should get out of the way and reverse course so that conditions will be ripe for people to be able to afford to have the kids. Perhaps government should reduce spending, and focus on their core duties and responsibilities.

Regardless of who was President over the last 5 decades (actually since 1981), our economy has rewarded the wealthy, and overwhelmingly.
Recall when a single worker could support a family (granted in a smaller but livable house)? No more.
Some “conservatives” blame the push for women’s equal rights ignoring that most women were drawn into the workplace our of economic necessity. Some blame the availablity of opportunities for women outside of depending on a man. Urbanization and suburbanization of America.
Others blame the macro trends of discouraging unionization. The drumbeat for lower taxation of the wealthy and their sources of income. The reduction in government support of education.
More BS-the “wealthy” pay more than their fair share of taxes. As said, the US has one of the most progressive tax systems in the free world. But that apparently isn’t good enough for liberals
What is their fair share? Whatever they’re paying these days is not enough, is it?
Almost all of federal outgoes are Defense, Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid and interest. What do you want to cut to balance the budget?
Sure it’s enough. We have one the most progressive tax systems but it’s not enough? Interesting.
From what I saw, those making over about $650,000 (top 1%) pay about 40% of all federal income taxes.
Yet our debt is greater than our GDP! Our spending is greater than our tax collections. The US takes in lower revenue (as % of GDP) is one of the lowest among all the OECD nations!
Since you refuse to raise taxes on billionaires, corporations and multimillionaires what spending can you cut to make a difference?
Our nation is run by the superwealthy and they take good care of their own.
Billionaire Nick Hanauer told his fellow billionaires:
In 2023 the US GDP per capita was $81,685.
Hell Rimjob, you ran your company out of business.

You are familiar with English right?
Speaking of the Surgeon General… we understand that most commenters are childless incels, but to those who aren’t, there’s been an increase in serious mosquito-borne viral diseases, e.g. West Nile,Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) and Dengue (Florida).
N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (aka DEET) is an effective mosquito repellent. Deep Woods Off contains ~ 30% DEET and is reasonably priced.
We know, we know nuCons believe the government is evil and is prepping America for an emergency declaration to block The Donald’s election, but you should still protect your kids.
Please Elwood, must everything be turned into this constant political “We know” crap where you lecture those of us you call nuCons or MAGATs what we believe or what we think? Can’t you just say as an American “Hey guys try Deep Woods Off” for this or that?
Is there some rule in the D party that says everything , even bug spray must be made into political?
L.G.B.,
Not an unreasonable suggestion. I’ll try to do better.
Regarding everything being political. That goes both ways, right?
A surgeon General? I thought President Clinton (the male half) proved that America really got along fine without one.
