Here are 12 climate resolutions to take with you into the new year
As we head into a new year, it’s a good idea to think about climate resolutions: what small actions can you take to reduce your carbon footprint?
From ditching disposable coffee cups to starting a community garden, our individual efforts go a long way.
Here is Change by Degrees’ handy monthly guide for making meaningful environmental change in 2025.
January: rethink your food
Start the year by focusing on what you eat. Agriculture accounts for a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions so even small shifts – like cutting back on meat some days – can help. Eating local food that’s in season supports small farmers and reduces the carbon footprint of imported produce. It’s a win-win that will have an immediate and positive impact on your health and the pockets of small, organic farmers.
Would these be the same local farmers that Big Government is trying to destroy?
February: care for soil and trees
That’s environment, keeping a clean environment.
March: throw a ‘what should I do?’ party
Many people don’t realise their potential to contribute. Host a “what should I do?” party to connect friends with action. Untapped talents can inspire collective change, whether lobbying, organising cleanups, or creating art. Already know your role? Use this month to plan your year of action.
How about giving up your own use of fossil fuels and making your own life carbon neutral?
I’ll let you read the rest. These are all minimal things for the cultists. Will any of them do these? It’s all very silly and cult-like.
Deniers whine that global warming ‘cultists’ don’t practice what they preach and whine when they DO practice what they preach.
These seemingly small efforts can make a difference.
No Jeff, environmentalist say the small efforts will do little. The intent is to have the small efforts grow to large, world encompassing laws and regulations that would have no influence on the climate but would destroy our way of life.
Porter,
What makes you think your conspiratorial opinions are relevant?
The US significantly cut CO2 emissions over the past several years without destroying your way of life. In fact, rich paople are making more than ever!!
Funny-denying…what?
Denying the evidence that the Earth is warming from CO2 added to the atmosphere.
ED asserted, without evidence: “The earth is warming from Co2 added to the atmosphere.”
Hitchens’s Razor: What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.
That can’t be denying because that hasn’t been validated. But nice try…..again…
Please explain what you mean by ‘validated’, thanks.
Nice try… again.
Our efforts go a long way, from ditching disposable coffee cups to starting a community garden.
I am 100 percent in favor of doing all you can to prevent pollution.
Unfortunately, every one of these actions always points toward flyover country, which these people constantly impugn while having cocktail parties in Washington, D.C., or other ginormous concrete and steel jungles extolling the virtues of starting a garden.
I find it amusing that the country’s population living in high rises or cracker box homes and working two jobs to make a living are supposed to START A GARDEN.
This is why the AGW crowd cannot gain traction for support. They demand of the people what is impossible for them to give.
A man living on the 33rd floor of a high rise in Chicago ain’t gonna start no farm growing one tomato plant. Then, when he can afford a cup of coffee, he doesn’t want that cup to cost another 50 cents because his Styrofoam coffee cup is now made of paper. We know our loggers are raping the forests which sink CO2 and create even more pollution because of the process of cutting trees, transporting trees to market and then having those trees cut using powerful fossil-fueled machinery, which is then packaged and shipped via diesel flat beds to other companies that use even more fossil fuels to machine the trees into various products.
So yeah, no. Styrofoam is no better than cutting trees. The difference is that people throw this stuff away, which ends up in the oceans in many countries, polluting the oceans with plastics and styrofoam.
Pollution is a very different problem than global warming, and replacing plastic with paper, which is made by cutting trees, does little to nothing to reduce CO2—which is, unfortunately, what the AGW crowd has hitched their wagon to.
D&G: every one of these actions always points toward flyover country, which these people constantly impugn while having cocktail parties in Washington, D.C., or other ginormous concrete and steel jungles extolling the virtues of starting a garden.
No, not every action points to small town, middle America. US cities have suburbs with quarter-acre yards with room for gardens. Anyone can eat less meat. Anyone can obtain more locally sourced foods. Drive less. Adjust your thermostat. Use more ‘renewable’ energy.
There are large cities lying between the coasts – Pittsburgh, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Chicago, St Louis, Louisville, Milwaukee, KC, Denver, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, Nashville, Little Rock, OK City, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, etc. Most Americans do not live in high-rise tenements – usually only the very rich and very poor!
The US has cut CO2 emissions signficantly over the past 2 decades, almost all from cutting coal use. Yet, our economy has not collapsed (well, twice… 2008 and 2020) but we’ve recovered. Unfortunately, our ‘great unwashed’ or the ‘mass of men’ are struggling, but our millionaire and billionaire ‘producers’ are doing very well indeed. Stock market too!! If there was just some way for the workers to do better…
Ah, the true commie. I guess starting your own business never occurs to commies. Try inventing something or even just improving something. Nah, just sit and complain.
There is something mental about middle and upper middle class White people. Beside being naturally stupid they seem to universally self hate. Why we don’t know. Perhaps Elwood is guilty. Perhaps he should be.
CarolAnn claims, ‘some way for the workers to do better’, is communism!!
Ah yes. More EDS.
So somenone wanting working class Americans to do better is a communist? Please explain, thanks.
Not everyone can start a business – for various reasons. We need mechanics, concrete workers, teachers, lawyers, nurses, lab techs, scientists, roofers, firemen, cops, accountants, clerks, laborers, farmers, tailors, gardeners, pilots, drivers, butchers, prison guards, cooks, vets, waitpersons, housekeepers, gardeners, fishermen etc – in fact, we have many more working class Americans than idle richie riches. Why do MAGAts hate the working class??
Life is easier if your daddy gifts you $419 million. But someone has to do all the work that makes the Trumps, Gates, Bezos, Musks, Buffetts, Ramyswamys, Waltons and thousands more fabulously wealthy! Just over 800 Americans possess 50% of the wealth! That means 335 million Americans have the other 50%.
At least billionaire Taylor Swift sings her own songs! Beyonce too. Juan Soto just received a $750 million contract, but he has to face down 100 mph fast balls and catch line drives. Jay-Z, Tiger Woods, Lebron, Michael Jordan, Tyler Perry, Rihanna, Oprah all worked for their fortunes. Spielberg, George Lucas too. The Dodgers pay Shohei Ohtani $70 million a year! And almost all are Americans!! And Black. Why do Blacks make so much money in sports and entertainment where compensations are based on performance?
CarolAnn,
Unless the Repub ruling class figures out a way to uplift the working class, they’ll have a short reign (provided we still have a Democratic Republic – the vile MAGAts are disinclined to give up power – see Jan 6 2021).
Funny. All of Rimjob’s “predictions” have been spot on correct so far.
All of them. It’s almost eerie.
Bwaha! Lolgfy Loser!
MAGA Motherfucker
New Sheriff’s Comin’
Sorry Elwood but the Republicans are not a “ruling class”, they are the winning party. Try and remember just because your party lost does not mean we became a moslem theocracy.
As far as “lifting up the working class” is concerned We can’t do any worse than the democommies have done over the last two dozen years. Hell, you are the one always complaining about the wealth gap you and your tax and spend policies have created. It’s the left that increases regulations that choke manufacturing and production and cause business to move over seas. Then you start bitchin about tariffs that at this point are negotiating tools only and panic like children. We know you are all inept at business so cool it and let the art of the deal do its thing. If it fails then bitch.
WE love the working class THAT’S WHY THEY VOTED FOR US!! But the way you put it everybody should be a millionaire even mechanics, concrete workers, teachers, lawyers, nurses, lab techs, scientists, roofers, firemen, cops, accountants, clerks, laborers, farmers, tailors, gardeners, pilots, drivers, butchers, prison guards, cooks, vets, waitpersons, housekeepers, gardeners, fishermen etc but they can’t and you know it so stop complaining about it.
Most people in a meritocracy are paid what they’re worth in the market. Why do Blacks make so much money in sports and entertainment where compensations are based on performance? Wrong question. What you should ask is why do blacks have such poor performance in professions not related to sports and entertainment?
You always miss the point though.
