Here’s the latest trial balloon floated by the Most Incompetent Administration Ever
The Obama administration is looking at creating a courtroom-within-a-prison complex in the U.S. to house suspected terrorists, combining military and civilian detention facilities at a single maximum-security prison.
Several senior U.S. officials said the administration is eyeing a soon-to-be-shuttered state maximum security prison in Michigan and the military penitentiary at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., as possible locations for a heavily guarded site to hold the 229 suspected al-Qaida, Taliban and foreign fighters now jailed at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba.
The officials outlined the plans — the latest effort to comply with President Barack Obama’s order to close the prison camp by Jan. 22, 2010, and satisfy congressional and public fears about incarcerating terror suspects on American soil — on condition of anonymity because the options are under review.
White House spokesman Ben LaBolt said Friday that no decisions have been made about the proposal. But the White House considers the courtroom-prison complex as the best among a series of bad options, an administration official said.
So, in a nutshell (all pun intended), the Obama administration campaign machinewill simply substitute one prison for another. Gitmo is up and operating, the security is in place, and it separates the jihadis from access to the American population by over 90 miles of water. So, instead of using his sweeping rhetoric to make some proclamations about how the Islamic fanatics will be treated, Obama will spend enormous amounts of money turning one or both of those prisons into the new area to house said fanatics.
I suppose the people and politicians of Michigan and Kansas will have something nasty to say about this plan. Not to mention that the Democrats in Congress have still blocked all funding for the closing of Guantanamo Bay.
Obama reminds me of Imelda Marcos. She saw shoes, she had to buy them. Obama see’s someone else’s money, he has to spend it.
On a personal note, I am not concerned about any of the Gitmo vacationers escaping. I’m confident that they will get all the security needed. My concern is that the minute they are housed on US soil, every scumbag lawyer, the ACLU, and other leftist groups will sue, demand the jihadis be given full American Constitutional Rights, force the release of secret intelligence, including the means and methods of gathering it. They’ll have military and intelligence personel testifying at trial. And so on. I will admit that Bush made a huge mistake in determining that the Geneva Convention did not apply to these Gitmo folks. He should have said the GC did, and, since they were enemy combatants, fighting with no uniform and for no country, they could be held for the duration sans trial.
Obama is still cleaning up the mess that was left. Bush released 650 of the 850 detainees, at least some of which have already returned to the battlefield. Apparently you do not feel that teh rule of law applies to these people, that our Constitution does not cover all under the US flag. Bush lost 90% of his Supreme Court cases even though 7 of the 9 had been appointed by Republican Presidents. I just hope that after Bush’s mangled attempts at justice that these people can receive a fair trial and that their cases are not simply thrown out because of how our previous administration played fast and loose with our Constitution. Confessions obtained under torture have already been determined to be not useable. Teach what wdo you consider to be more important: convicting these people or upholding the Constitution of the United States of America ?
