There’s very little in border security being offered, just Democrats attempting to patronize an element of the moderate Democrat Party and some Independents, maybe a few Never Trumpers. That’s the point of the talking points and the Credentialed Media article
Democrats lean into border security as it shapes contest for control of Congress
With immigration shaping the elections that will decide control of Congress, Democrats are trying to outflank Republicans and convince voters they can address problems at the U.S. border with Mexico, embracing an issue that has traditionally been used against them.
The shift in strategy, especially from Democrats running in battleground states, comes as the Biden administration has struggled to manage an unprecedented influx of migrants at the Southwest border. Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has led his party in vilifying immigrants as “ poisoning the blood ” of the country and called for mass deportations of migrants. And as the GOP looks to flip control of the Senate, they are tying Democrats to President Joe Biden’s handling of immigration.
The tactic has already figured large in elections like Arizona’s Senate race, a seat Democrats almost certainly need to win to save their majority. Republican Kari Lake has repeatedly linked Rep. Ruben Gallego, the likely Democratic nominee, to Biden, telling the crowd at a March event that “there’s really not a difference between the two.”
Democrats are no longer shrugging off such attacks: They believe they can tout their own proposals for fixing the border, especially after Trump and Republican lawmakers rejected a bipartisan proposal on border security earlier this year.
Most know that the proposal was complete mule fritters, that it would not get tough on border security and would allow millions more illegals into the U.S.
During most of his five House terms, Gallego had been a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, but as he prepared for a Senate run, he quietly left the group. Now he’s emphasizing his work on bolstering the ranks of U.S. Customs and Border Protection and securing funding for communities impacted by recent spikes in immigration, which he calls a “crisis.”
Telling people you’ve appropriated more money to deal with people who shouldn’t even be in the U.S. is perhaps not the best “lean” into border security
Just two states over, Democrats are hoping to bolster their chances of holding the Senate by pulling off a difficult feat — turning Texas blue, at least in one race. Some see a chance to flip a long-held GOP seat by fielding Rep. Colin Allred, D-Texas, against Sen. Ted Cruz.
Allred has emphasized his connection to border communities on the campaign trail and recounted how he had made childhood visits to Brownsville, Texas, where his grandfather worked as a customs officer.
And that helps secure the border how, exactly?
Still, Democrats on Capitol Hill have all opposed Republican legislation that would bring back many of the Trump administration’s border policies, including restarting construction of border walls.
“You’re going to be painted as an open border Democrat no matter what, so talk about solutions,” said Maria Cardona, a Democratic strategist.
She is urging candidates to lean into the immigration debate by discussing plans for border security and policies to help immigrants who have set up lives in the country. It’s an approach that worked under former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, she said.
What kind of security is there when you’re letting them in then feeding, housing, sheltering them, giving them money and schooling and jobs? Seriously, there are no viable policy proposals for this “lean”, other than more money for illegals. Because they are open borders. If Trump wins he should ship illegals to the areas where elected Democrats live. Ten here, 20 there, let them deal with their beliefs.

This is so weird: the Warmists and all their governments and politicians and bureaucrats made all these laws and rules and taxed people and forced citizens to act in a certain way and yet
Heat-trapping carbon dioxide and methane levels in the air last year spiked to record highs again
The levels of the crucial heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere reached historic highs last year, growing at near-record fast paces, according to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Carbon dioxide, the most important and abundant of the greenhouse gases caused by humans, rose in 2023 by the third highest amount in 65 years of record keeping, NOAA announced Friday. Scientists are also worried about the rapid rise in atmospheric levels of methane, a shorter-lived but more potent heat-trapping gas. Both jumped 5.5% over the past decade.
The 2.8 parts per million increase in carbon dioxide airborne levels from January 2023 to December, wasn’t as high as the jumps were in 2014 and 2015, but they were larger than every other year since 1959, when precise records started. Carbon dioxide’s average level for 2023 was 419.3 parts per million, up 50% from pre-industrial times.
Last year’s methane’s jump of 11.1 parts per billion was lower than record annual rises from 2020 to 2022. It averaged 1922.6 parts per billion last year. It has risen 3% in just the past five years and jumped 160% from pre-industrial levels showing faster rates of increase than carbon dioxide, said Xin “Lindsay” Lan, the University of Colorado and NOAA atmospheric scientist who did the calculations.
So, despite all the crap the climate cult pushed, all those new EV sales, etc and so on, the metrics continued to go up? Hey, perhaps if all the Warmists gave up their own use of fossil fuels, stopped eating meat, stopped using all the energy for all their streaming stuff, and more those numbers could go down.
It’s probably those greedy rich folks cashing out, right?
99 Cents Only to close all 371 stores and wind down its business
99 Cents Only Stores will close all 371 of its stores and wind down its business operations after more than four decades, the City of Commerce discount chain announced Thursday.
“This was an extremely difficult decision and is not the outcome we expected or hoped to achieve,” interim Chief Executive Mike Simoncic said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the last several years have presented significant and lasting challenges in the retail environment.”
He cited multiple factors, including the “unprecedented impact” of the COVID-19 pandemic, shifting consumer demand, persistent inflationary pressures and rising levels of shrink — an industry term that refers to loss of inventory attributed to reasons such as shoplifting, employee theft and administrative errors.
Combined, those issues “have greatly hindered the company’s ability to operate,” Simoncic said.
99 Cents Only has stores in California, Arizona, Nevada and Texas and has about 14,000 employees. The privately held company said it had reached an agreement with Hilco Global to liquidate all of its merchandise and dispose of fixtures, furnishings and equipment at its stores. Sales are expected to begin Friday.
But, remember, the economy is doing fabulous, and crime is dropping! Weren’t we told that it was only property and insurance would take care of it? It doesn’t work like that. And, of course, the vast majority (71%) are in the People’s Republik Of California, where the government takes the side of thieves over citizens and businesses.

Can climate change play a role in the frequency of earthquakes?
The quake in New Jersey today was magnitude 4.8. So far, there have only been 13 quakes in the area that were deemed "damaging" by the National Earthquake Information Center. @NBCNewYork https://t.co/lBytwirIPN

I jokingly blamed Trump, since his Bedminster golf course is actually pretty darned close to the epicenter, which the USGS had as 4.8 at 7KM NNE from Whitehouse Station, NJ.
M 4.7 – 7 km earthquake NNE of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey. We felt the tremor here in Midtown East.
Remember, Roosevelt Island + Queens felt the 1.7 M in January.

This is just pure cult, where her mind jumps to this. East of the Mississippi is very high bedrock, unlike west of the Mississippi, and especially out on the West coast. You feel much smaller earthquakes much further away here in the East. When the 7-8 earthquakes happened in the New Madrid Seismic Zone in 1811-1812 the rang church bells in Boston, broke windows in NYC and Chicago. They even felt the earthquakes in Canada. The Mississippi ran backwards. The San Francisco earthquake of 1989 during the World Series was noticed as far away as LA, but, didn’t have the same power as an East Coast earthquake.
Anyhow, it’s nice to have confirmation of anti-science cultists at NBC News.

(UK Independent) Joya Patiha, a 43-year-old Indonesian transgender woman, first started to notice that changing weather patterns in the mountain-ringed city of Bandung were affecting her income as a sex worker a decade ago.
The rainy season was lasting longer across the West Java province, winds were stronger and in some particularly bad years Patiha lost up to 80% of her earnings.
Trans women like Patiha are among the most affected by extreme weather linked to climate change, as well as suffering disproportionately when disasters strike.
Have you ever noticed that every group seems to be among the most affected by weather? Oh, and that this doomsday cult is full of batshit crazy people?

I’ve tried searching, but, can find no instance where Biden has given an ultimatum to Hamas. You know, the US State Department designated terrorist organization. You know, the terrorist group backed by the Palestinians in Gaza which attacked, raped, tortured, and murdered Israeli civilians. You know, the terrorist group which is still holding U.S. citizens hostage
Biden ultimatum to Netanyahu: protect Gaza civilians, or else
U.S. President Joe Biden effectively gave Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu an ultimatum on Thursday: protect Palestinian civilians and foreign aid workers in Gaza or Washington could rein in support for Israel in its war against Hamas militants.
The message, after months of U.S. calls for Israel to change its military tactics that have killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, followed an Israeli attack that killed seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid workers and triggered global outrage.
Israel admits the strike was a mistake.
The White House did not say exactly what steps it wanted Netanyahu to take, nor what it would do if he failed to take them. But analysts said the implicit threat was to slow U.S. arms transfers to Israel or to temper U.S. support at the U.N.
“This is as close to a ‘come to Jesus’ moment as you can get,” said analyst Steven Cook of the Council on Foreign Relations think tank, referring to Biden’s comment last month that he and Netanyahu were heading for such a turning point.
Yeah, it was a mistake, but, this is war, and Hamas, which is backed by the majority of Gazans, started it. Telling Israel to change its tactics simply helps Hamas, which uses people as human shields, and would love a ceasefire and even just a softening of Israel’s attacks, which would allow Hamas to reconstitute and re-arm.
If Hamas and the Palestinians, and now dhimmi Biden, want to protect civilians they should be telling Hamas to let the remaining hostages go right now then lay down their arms and surrender. But, Biden has a political base that hates Israel and Jews, and hates them to the point that they support Islamic terrorist groups. How many in Biden’s administration feel the same?
???? Breaking: Israel ???????? bombed a Gaza hospital, killing 10 civilians including 7 children. It also declared that no troops will be punished for the mistake ????
Sorry for the typo, it was a US ???????? strike on a hospital in Kabul. Biden didn't even apologize for it.

Ford’s making a lot of Corporate Speak, but, come on, we can all see that the EV push is not going well (via The First Street Journal)
Ford to delay all-electric SUV to focus on offering hybrid vehicles across its lineup by 2030
Ford Motor is delaying production of a new all-electric three row SUV, as it shifts to offer hybrid options across its entire North American lineup by 2030.
The Detroit automaker on Thursday said it will continue to invest in EVs, but it is postponing production of the large SUV at a plant in Canada from 2025 to 2027 to allow for the market to mature more.
The shift in EV plans is the latest for Ford and the entire automotive industry as adoption has been slower than many expected and production costs remain high.
Ford last year said it would delay or cancel $12 billion in planned spending on new EVs due to the shifting market conditions as well as challenges to profitably building and selling the vehicles.
“As the No. 2 EV brand in the U.S. for the past two years, we are committed to scaling a profitable EV business, using capital wisely and bringing to market the right gas, hybrid and fully electric vehicles at the right time,” said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO. “Our breakthrough, next-generation EVs will be new from the ground up and fully software enabled, with ever-improving digital experiences and a multitude of potential services.”
Blah blah blah. Ford says their sales of EVs rose 86% from 2022, but, they didn’t have that many the year before. And, for all their yammering and pushing, they still only have the the Lightning and “Mustang” (is it really a Mustang at this point? It may be competing for least popular with the 1969 Ford Mustang E. At least it looked like a Mustang). And six hybrids, five of which are standard and one is a plugin. You do not see many of the Explorer hybrids around, nor the F-150 hybrid or Transit. The Escape and Maverick do sell better. That should be the focus, but, come on, the Escapes are low ranking vehicles for resale value.
Consumers are willing to accept standard hybrids, and do not want to be forced into EVs.
What electric vehicle shoppers want isn’t what’s for sale, and it’s hurting sales: poll.
Are you there, electric vehicle makers? It’s me, an EV shopper.
Judging by the EVs on the market, EV makers aren’t there listening to what consumers want, according to auto comparison company Edmunds.
EV battery longevity worries, range anxiety and lack of charging infrastructure are all known concerns, but there’s also a wide gap between what car shoppers want and what’s for sale, Edmunds’ 2024 EV consumer sentiment survey shows.
These factors together can make the uphill climb to mass EV purchases even steeper. Edmunds predicts the rate of EV growth will continue slowing through 2024, increasing to just 8% of new vehicle market share from 6.9% last year and 5.2% in 2022.
What consumers want is lower prices. Cars and SUVs, not pickups (which is interesting, because a lot of consumers are forgoing sedans right now. That could change). And
EVs from the most trusted brands: Toyota and Honda rank third and fourth as the most trusted makers of consumer EVs, with Tesla and BMW taking the top two spots, respectively.
Reality:Toyota has just one EV on the market in the U.S., while Honda’s just beginning to sell its first pure electric.
Consumers for Toyota and Honda, though, aren’t exactly asking for them. A small minority are asking, but, even less are actually interested in purchasing. Bringing the E: Ny1 over from Europe, an SUV a bit smaller than a CRV, could make a big difference. Then there’s the range issue. If they were smart, they’d make a big push for standard hybrids, and ease into EVs when consumers want them.

Blinken: ‘Ukraine will become a member of NATO’
Secretary of State Antony Blinken reaffirmed the U.S. commitment for Ukraine to eventually join NATO but held back commitments ahead of the alliance’s annual summit, which will take place in Washington in July.
“Ukraine will become a member of NATO. Our purpose at the summit is to help build a bridge to that membership,” Blinken told reporters Thursday in Brussels.
NATO allies agreed at the 2023 summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, that Ukraine can join NATO when certain conditions are met, but sparked criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Baltic allies for failing to set concrete goals and a timeline for Kyiv to join the alliance.
Ukraine’s supporters are crafting ways to demonstrate robust international support for Kyiv that can be announced at NATO’s Washington summit, marking the 75th anniversary of the alliance.
OK, so, nothing concrete, but, do you think Putin, with all those nukes at his disposal and a large armed forces which would be looking for complete destruction rather than attempting to preserve land, cities, and infrastructure, will take this well? Realistically, Ukraine cannot join till their little war ends. Which doesn’t look like is going to happen anytime soon. The danger here is that Putin might finally decide to pull of the kid gloves and just drop the military hammer on Ukraine, not caring if cities and farmland and such are destroyed. He damned sure won’t appreciate this kind of talk. And, yeah, why poke Russia over Ukraine?
Or that NATO is considering dumping 100 million Euros, about $108 million. Not EU nations, but, NATO.
So, Blinken says Ukraine will be in NATO, they don’t support independence in Taiwan & hostages still in Gaza with push to change Israeli government? This is bad… https://t.co/O4v91pLf4a
