Massachusetts Governor Complains Migrant Facilities Almost At Capacity

Perhaps she’d like to visit border towns, and see how over-run they are? Isn’t Massachusetts a self declared sanctuary state? They have plenty of room

‘Reaching capacity’: Healey pressures feds to address migrant shelter crisis, appoints new director

With the state’s emergency shelter limit reaching capacity, Gov. Maura Healey on Monday put pressure on federal officials to address the growing migrant crisis, saying state officials can no longer guarantee shelter placement for new families arriving in the state.

Healey also appointed a new emergency assistance director, Air Force Lt. Gen. Leon Scott Rice to oversee management and coordination of the emergency shelter system. Rice, a former director of the Air National Guard, led emergency management teams under former Governors Deval Patrick and Charlie Baker.

The state will not be able to accommodate more than 7,500 families, or approximately 24,000 people, in emergency shelter and will likely hit this number by the end of the month, officials said.

Beginning Nov. 1, the state will no longer be able to add new shelter units. At this time, families seeking shelter will be assessed and those with high needs, such as health and safety risks, will be prioritized for placement, officials said. Families who are not immediately connected with shelter will be placed on a waiting list.

“We do not have enough space, service providers or funds,” Healey told reporters on Monday.

They have a whopping 23,000 illegals in shelters, so, what’s the problem? Certainly this sanctuary state could figure it out, right? They support unfettered illegal immigration, right? Oh, I forgot, that’s as long as the illegals are Somewhere Else.

Of course, their pressure on federal officials is completely wrong-headed: it should be about shutting the border down as much as possible, deporting the heck out of illegals in the U.S., and discouraging foreigners from coming to the U.S. and entering illegally and/or declaring amnesty. Instead, they just want money and such.

Healey said she’s made multiple requests to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for federal funding and improvements to the work authorization process. The governor met with the White House Chief of Staff last week and with Secretary Mayorkas in August.

Abbott and DeSantis need to send a whole bunch of buses to Massachusetts. Seriously, sanctuary cities/states are losing their minds so often that it must be tough for them. Where to send illegals? Mass? NYC? Chicago? Denver? D.C.? Portland? Seattle? LA? There are plenty to send, though, because the border is wide open.

And Mass. is working to provide tons of help with food, clothing, medical, and housing, among others. That just encourages more to come.

Uber-Liberal New Yorker Notices Carbon Credits Are A Scam

I or any other Skeptic could have told them this back in the early part of the 21st Century

The Great Cash-for-Carbon Hustle

One evening in November, 2021, a group of men assembled at sundown on the terrace of the Ruckomechi Camp, a safari resort on the Zambezi River. Since arriving by private plane, they had gone out lion-spotting, boated down the river, and landed a giant tiger fish; now they were clinking gin-and-tonics. Hippos wallowed in the water below.

The party was led by Renat Heuberger, a forty-four-year-old Swiss entrepreneur with narrow eyes and a cropped copper beard. Heuberger was the chief executive of South Pole, the world’s largest carbon-offsetting firm, and he had come to Zimbabwe to fight off an urgent threat to his company.

A decade earlier, South Pole had signed a deal to sell carbon offsets from an effort to protect a vast swath of forest on the banks of Lake Kariba, upriver from the camp. The Kariba project, spanning an area ten times the size of New York City, was among the world’s first “avoided deforestation” programs; by deterring local people from chopping down trees, it promised to prevent the release of tens of millions of tons of greenhouse gas. Leading corporations, including Volkswagen, Gucci, Nestlé, Porsche, and Delta Air Lines, paid South Pole nearly a hundred million dollars for Kariba credits, allowing them to market goods or services as “carbon neutral.”

South Pole thus pioneered a model of carbon offsetting that has been counted among our best hopes for staving off climate catastrophe: a mechanism that diverts funds from polluters in wealthy countries to protect crucial ecosystems in the Global South. Heuberger, a kinetic, grandiloquent man, speaks expansively about his mission. “We’re here to save the climate,” he told me.

And these rich folks buy lots of offsets so they can continue living the highlife, like, taking long private fossil fueled flights. And the money didn’t really make it to the less well off folks, especially in the poor countries, and didn’t really do much of anything. It’s what the Warmists call “greenwashing” these days.

The head of South Pole’s sustainable-finance consultancy division, Rebecca Self, was concerned that the company was awarding “Climate Neutral” badges to clients who seemed to be making little meaningful effort to cut their emissions. But, she told me, when she raised these objections, Heuberger accused her of “sounding like an N.G.O.” and “trying to kill the projects.” (Heuberger maintains that he does not recall saying this, but in our conversations he repeatedly condemned environmental nonprofits, complaining about their “destructive all-out bashing” of the carbon market and even suggesting that such organizations are secretly chaos agents funded by the oil industry.) Not long afterward, Self learned that South Pole had helped the Qatar World Cup substantiate a carbon-neutrality claim that excluded most of the emissions from the construction of seven air-conditioned stadiums. She put her concerns in writing and resigned.

This is an incredibly long article, meant to be in the October 23rd edition, and you really, really have to dig in and read it to see what an utter scam this all is. Are the trees making a difference, if the Cult talking points about them sucking carbon pollution out of the air is correct? Are the companies really planting all those trees? There are reports of violence in low income/Indigenous areas to force compliance. But, they make companies and rich folks feel better about all the things they do that create massive carbon footprints.

Just 40% Of Youts Have Negative View Of Terrorist Hamas

They aren’t big fans of Israel, either. Because they have been indoctrinated

One in 10 members of Gen Z and young Millennials have a positive view of Hamas terrorists, according to exclusive poll

One in ten young Americans aged 18 to 29 has a positive view of terrorist organization Hamas, despite the group’s murderous attack on Israel last week that killed more than 1,300 men women and children.

Although almost two thirds of all Americans take a negative view of Iran-backed Hamas, in an exclusive DailyMail.com poll, that number drops to 40 per cent among Gen Z and young Millennials.

At the same time they are the least likely age group to hold a positive view of Israel. (snip)

J.L. Partners polled 1000 people for DailyMail.com to get a snapshot of American attitudes to Israel, Hamas and the unfolding conflict.

The results show how decades of U.S. support for Israel cannot be taken for granted with a younger generation.

James Johnson, co-founder of J.L.Partners, said: ‘Only four in ten 18-29 year old Americans have a negative view of Hamas. Yes, you read that right.

It’s simple: they’ve been taught to love Palestinians and hate Israel to the point they support terrorist organizations and despise Jews. One of the causes is the spread of Muslim Brotherhood doctrine, which they intentionally spread into Western civilization. They’ve used propaganda, soft words, emotional blackmail, and other methods, all to make radical Islam more palatable to Western culture, along with their hatred of Jews and Israel

The event at the campus’ red square had been advertised by a radical student group who said their goal was to ‘uplift the just Palestinian resistance’ and ‘condemn the settler colonial state of Israel.’

And how do you solve someone who has colonized an area? You kick them out. That is what they are pushing, even if it includes slaughter Jews.

Doom: The Mediterranean Holiday May Be Coming To An End From Global Boiling

Question: why are people taking vacations in the first place to the Med? That requires a fossil fueled trip and uses lots of energy to house them and let them have fun. They should all just stay home

Is this the end of the Mediterranean beach holiday?

The holiday apartment in Alicante, Spain, has been a fixture of Lori Zaino’s in-laws’ family since her husband’s grandparents purchased it in the 1970s. As a baby, it’s where her husband took his first steps; he and Zaino have spent their summer holidays there almost every year for the last 16 years – now with a toddler in tow. Their families may look different each time they go, but each visit, year after year, has delivered everything they wanted from a Mediterranean summer holiday: sun, sand and plenty of beach time.

Until this year. A heat wave scorched southern Europe during their mid-July holiday, with temperatures of 46C and 47C in cities including Madrid, Seville and Rome. In Alicante, temperatures hit 39C, though the humidity made it feel hotter, Zaino says. A red-alert weather warning was issued. Palm trees toppled from water loss. (snip)

These events aren’t just inconvenient or uncomfortable. They can be deadly. In Spain, nearly 1,000 people died in eight days of the July 2023 heatwave. The total human cost of Europe’s summer 2023 heatwaves has not yet been calculated. But summer 2022 – which was similarly scorching – led to a loss of more than 60,000 lives.

Against such a backdrop, there’s another loss that might seem far less important – but is a poignant reminder of how climate change is reshaping both our everyday and economic realities: the effect on the Mediterranean summer holiday.

Tourists have flocked to the Mediterranean for summer holidays for centuries. In ancient Roman times, those with means headed to Baiae, a resort town on the Bay of Naples, or to Greek islands (one particularly famous couple that seemed to have greatly enjoyed their visit to Samos was Antony and Cleopatra). Even today, the idea of lolling around on a sun-soaked coast attracts millions of tourists to countries like Greece, Spain and Italy each summer.

But that could be changing. A recent report by the European Travel Commission (ETC) found that Mediterranean countries remain the most popular destination for Europeans for June to November 2023. Still, compared to last year, the number of European tourists interested in going to Mediterranean countries has dropped 10%. Many travellers, meanwhile, are shifting their holiday dates: 5% more are opting for the “shoulder season” of October and November versus in 2022.

It couldn’t have anything to do with a crummy economy, especially post-Wuhan flu, could it?

While “economic factors are having a significant impact”, said Eduardo Santander, the ETC’s executive director, “unease about weather conditions is also influencing where Europeans choose to go on holiday”. The ETC’s research found that nearly 8% of travellers specifically mentioned “extreme weather events” as their primary concern about travelling in Europe from June to November 2023.

So, yeah, mostly the crap economy.

Meanwhile, other destinations are reaping benefits. More summer travellers are opting for destinations with milder temperatures like the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Ireland and Denmark, Santander says. The coastal British region of Cornwall, famed for its beaches and ocean views, has seen an uptick in visitors from countries like Germany, Italy and the Netherlands, according to Malcolm Bell, executive chair of Visit Cornwall. “We believe it’s partly driven by the cooler climate, [which] makes walking and cycling delightful rather than a sweat,” he said.

The climate changes. That’s what happens. When the climate flips to a cool period people will want to go further south, if they like warmth. Things change. But, this is a doomsday cult which thinks that things should never change.

BTW, yes, there are mako sharks in the Med. The longfin mako, which grows to 14 feet. There are also hammerheads, blue sharks, blacktip sharks, dusky sharks, and great whites, all which can be dangerous to humans. Though, you won’t see this in travel brochures for the Med.

More Illegals Dying While Crossing Into U.S. Illegally

There’s an easy way to solve this: can anyone figure out the number one solution?

No shade, no water, and record heat: More migrants die in US desert

In the last 12 months through September, U.S. Customs and Border Protection logged 60 migrant deaths due to heat in the El Paso sector, triple the same period a year ago.

The sector spans the Chihuahuan Desert through New Mexico and parts of Texas along 268 miles of the border. It has been the busiest area for migrant crossings into the U.S. southwest at a time when overall border apprehensions are on track to match or surpass record levels. Migrant advocates and academics have said for years that policies like increased fencing and checkpoints, intended to deter those aiming to cross illegally into the U.S., push migrants to take increasingly perilous routes to evade detection.

That includes ever-longer treks through remote stretches of desert where they are prone to exhaustion and dehydration. (snip)

Migrants can also be abandoned by human traffickers without water, or jammed into sweltering truck trailers. The 2022 death toll at the U.S.-Mexico border prompted the U.N. migration agency to deem the area the world’s deadliest land migration route. (snip)

Including other causes such as car accidents and drowning, the total number of migrant deaths doubled from the prior year to reach a record of 148 fatalities.

It’s very simple: do not come to the United States illegally, do not cross the border illegally and wander around in what is a desert that gets pretty darned hot, with little to no food or water. Stay home. Do not come here. Do not trek hundreds to thousands of miles. If you want to claim asylum apply elsewhere. These people are putting themselves in danger, with an assist from Democrats, who entice people to make the trek and cross illegally.

More than 11,000 migrants are staying in Chicago shelters, census figures show

Census figures show there are now more than 11,000 migrants staying in Chicago shelters.

Just over 3,700 are waiting for placement with just over 3,200 at Chicago Police Department Districts. Nearly 500 are at O’Hare and Midway airports.

More than three buses of migrants were expected to arrive Sunday night.

Are they having fun yet? Are the citizens of Chicago having fun putting their sanctuary city beliefs to good use? Seeing their tax dollars flow to illegals? This is just a pittance of what those in border cities have to deal with

(Chicago Tribune) Frangeny Mendoza, 27, huddled on a thin fleece Salvation Army blanket next to her husband, Pedro Matos, 30, and 8-year-old son, Ediomar, Tuesday night in Edna White Century Garden, which over the past month has become a tent encampment for hundreds of migrants waiting for shelter placement at the nearby Morgan Park police station.

The family from Venezuela, who were put on a bus by city officials in El Paso, Texas, and sent to Chicago without knowing where they were going, spent their first three nights in the sanctuary city sleeping outside on the ground.

“It’s so cold here, but we have nowhere to go. We don’t have anyone here,” she said in Spanish.

Welcome to America! This was your choice, so, suck it up, enjoy the diverse weather! Hope it doesn’t snow early.

[Mayor Brandon Johnson’s deputy chief of staff, Cristina] Pacione-Zayas said Thursday that Chicago is a sanctuary city with welcoming values, but she said there is only so much the city can do. The mayor’s 2024 budget unveiled Wednesday included only $150 million in migrant funding — less than half the projected costs this year.

“It wouldn’t be right if we did not let folks know the limitations that we have,” she said. “We’ve inherited no infrastructure for this.”

Too bad. You’re a sanctuary city, make it work. Or, perhaps you, the mayor, and the city council will finally realize that unfettered illegal immigration is a Bad Idea and that Biden’s open border policies are a complete failure, and a threat to citizens, when you visit the border this week.

Sob: AOC Upset She Can’t Replace Her Tesla With A Union Made EV

She could have purchased a Chevy Bolt, but, that would apparently have been Inconvenient

AOC’s admission over her Tesla purchase sparks debate online: ‘Do as I say, not as I do’

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a strong supporter of both the environment and American unions, Electrek reported. That’s why she wants to trade in her Tesla Model 3 for a union-made EV. Just one problem: she can’t find one.

The issue came up in a recent interview on “Face The Nation,” Electrek revealed. In the clip, AOC speaks about her need for a vehicle with the range to safely travel between Washington, D.C., and Queens, New York, a distance of 240 miles. At the time that she bought her car in 2020, a Tesla was her best option.

Tesla’s five million EVs aren’t union-made. In fact, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been outspoken against unions, even interfering with unionization efforts, Electrek explained.

However, at the time she bought her car, most other EVs weren’t, either, Electrek said. The only exception that was manufactured in the U.S. was the Chevy Bolt. The Bolt is an outstanding vehicle, Electrek said — but with a maximum range of 247 miles and slow charging speeds, it wouldn’t have been ideal for AOC’s situation.

Not ideal? You mean like how most EVs are “not ideal” for most Americans, but, they’re going to be jammed down our throats? Huh. If she really cared, she could stop and charge it up, maybe get something to eat, since it is around 228 miles from NYC to DC.

But, does anyone really believe AOC is constantly driving between DC and NYC? Who thinks she flies more?

Today, as she says she’s “looking into trading in our car now,” the selection is only slightly better. While many foreign manufacturers use union labor, in the U.S., aside from the Model 3 and the Bolt, AOC would be limited to the Ford F-150 Lightning, the Hummer EV, the Cadillac Lyriq, or the E-Transit — none of which are a good fit for her range needs. The upcoming Chevy Blazer and Equinox could be what AOC is looking for, however, as both reportedly have build options that reach about 300 miles per charge.

And, expensive. Gotta be tough on a Congress Critter’s salary, right? She’s basically saying you should be paying more and getting less.

Also, why can’t she take Amtrak? Sure, it would take longer, but, it is unionized. Probably doesn’t want to rub shoulders with the peasants.

Hamas Supporters Call For Israel’s Destruction At Raleigh Protest

I wish I had noticed that this was happening Sunday afternoon, I might have gone to get some photos and videos. This guy got some, though

You know what that means, right? That is the call for the eradication of Israel. WRAL failed to mention this. ABC11 failed, as well. CBS17 did not have an article about it at the time of writing. The Raleigh News and Observer did mention this, but, forgot something

Fury and frustration about the Israel-Gaza war were displayed in downtown Raleigh Sunday as around 400 pro-Palestinian supporters gathered on the Moore Square lawn to denounce Israel’s bombing and siege of Gaza.

Between chants of “Free, free Palestine” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” speakers called for an end to the bombings, which began after Hamas militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7. (snip)

Protesters hoisted Palestinian flags and signs — some of which more broadly called for a free Palestine and several with more pointed messages that equated Israel’s actions in Gaza to the crimes committed against Jews during World War II.

Yeah, they forgot to mention what that actually means

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free” is a common call-to-arms for pro-Palestinian activists. It calls for the establishment of a State of Palestine from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, erasing the State of Israel and its people. It is also a rallying cry for terrorist groups and their sympathizers, from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) to Hamas, which called for Israel’s destruction in its original governing charter in 1988 and was responsible for the October 7, 2023 terror attack on Israeli civilians, murdering over 1,000 people in the single deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

It was coined by the State Department designated terror organization Palestinian Liberation Organization in 1964. Vienna banned a Palestinian demonstration the other day over the use of the phrase on flyers and such, because they know what it means. The slogan has been chanted during many of the protests by people supporting a terrorist group who murdered women and children over the last week, and many were quite clear what they meant.

And lots of people wearing Intifada keffiyehs, a sign of violence against Jews.

Meanwhile

(CBS News) Threats in the U.S. have been rising, since Hamas invaded Israel a week ago, FBI Director Christopher Wray and FBI officials said Sunday in a rare phone briefing for reporters.

“The threat is very much ongoing and in fact, the threat picture continues to evolve,” Wray said. “Here in the U.S., we cannot and do not discount the possibility that Hamas or other foreign terrorist organizations could exploit the conflict to call on their supporters to conduct attacks on our own soil.”

Good thing our border is locked down and we didn’t invite lots and lots of Islamists from extremist nations to live in the U.S., right?
