New York Democrats Wonder What To Do About Socialist/Islamist Mamdani

There are apparently not enough moderate Democrats to go around

New York establishment Democrats mull over Mamdani charm offensive

Marxism and SocialismNew York Democrats cool to their party’s Big Apple mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani are weighing their options as the 33-year-old progressive makes his own pitch to centrists that they should back him.

The Democratic establishment has been looking for alternatives, but none really satisfy.

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo last week announced an independent run after losing the Democratic primary to Mamdani, but a number of Democrats who spoke to The Hill have doubts he can win. Some also haven’t forgotten past Cuomo controversies.

Incumbent Eric Adams is also running as an independent, but he has had a scandal-tarred career and his tilting toward MAGA and Trump World hasn’t won him too many friends in the Democratic establishment.

Obviously, Cuomo is a terrible person. Democrats caused Adams to move a bit toward Trump World after Democrats went after Adams with their lawfare. Don’t forget, Mamdani won that ranked-choice closed primary with pretty low turnout.

Political observers say there aren’t enough moderates to go around for one — let alone two candidates — and if the establishment wants to prevail, either Adams or Cuomo should exit the race.

“You can’t have multiple alternatives,” said Grant Reeher, the director of Syracuse University’s Campbell Public Affairs Institute. “I just don’t see any way that Mamdani doesn’t win unless one of these folks drops out.”

“If I was a Democratic strategist for the whole party in New York City, and I commanded authority, I would put Adams and Cuomo in a room, and I would say, ‘You guys are going to flip a coin,’” he added.

Even if there were moderates in the Democrat party, it’s rather too late. Interestingly, with Adams out Cuomo leads the race over Mamdani and Republican Curtis Sliwa. Mamdani will be even more of a nightmare than wackadoodle Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. He may claim he’s a socialist like her and her DSA friends, but, he’s really a stealth Islamist, who hates Israel, hates Jews, and hates America. He supports Islamic extremism. If he wins the Jews will leave NYC along with all the rich folks who create businesses and jobs. Who donate to all sorts of charities in NYC.

There is, of course, always the city council who can put the kibosh on Mamdani and his extremist agenda. Will they? Or will they turn NYC into Islamist London?

Bummer: Only Three Years Left To Save The World From Climate Doom

Sigh. This again

Only 3 years left – new study warns the world is running out of time to avoid the worst impacts of climate change

Bad climate news is everywhere. Africa is being hit particularly hard by climate change and extreme weather, impacting lives and livelihoods.

We are living in a world that is warming at the fastest rate since records began. Yet, governments have been slow to act.

The annual global climate change conference of the parties (COP30) is just months away. All of the 197 countries that belong to the United Nations were supposed to have submitted updated national climate plans to the UN by February this year. These plans outline how each country will cut its greenhouse gas emissions in line with the legally binding international Paris Agreement. This agreement commits all signatories to limiting human-caused global warming to no more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Governments must also bring their newly updated national climate action plans to COP30 and show how they plan to adapt to the impacts that climate change will bring.

Is this the same COP30 where they’re cutting down the Amazon to build roads to get the 40K attendees from the airport to the convention?

In Africa, the UN is hosting UNFCCC Climate Week in Addis Ababa in September. As well as making plans for COP30, there will be sessions on accessing climate finance and ensuring that the transition to zero human-caused carbon emissions by 2050 (net zero) is just and equitable. The summit also aims to support countries that are still working on their national climate plans.

I wonder how many thousands, or tens of thousands, are going to be taking fossil fueled flights to Ethiopia for this? Anyhow, you’ve seen the prognostications before, but, a few more

It’s all so tedious. And cultish.

Weird: Illinois Kicking Illegals Off Medicaid To Save Money

I distinctly remember being told by Democrats and their pet Credentialed Media that illegals and migrants were not eligible for Medicaid and weren’t receiving it

From the link

For nearly 20 years, Maria would call her sister — a nurse in Mexico — for advice on how to manage her asthma and control her husband’s diabetes instead of going to the doctor in California.

She didn’t have legal status, so she couldn’t get health insurance and skipped routine exams, relying instead on home remedies and, at times, getting inhalers from Mexico. She insisted on using only her first name for fear of deportation.

Things changed for Maria and many others in recent years when a handful of Democrat-led states opened up their health insurance programs to low-income immigrants regardless of their legal status. Maria and her husband signed up the day the program began last year.

“It changed immensely, like from Earth to the heavens,” Maria said in Spanish of Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program. “Having the peace of mind of getting insurance leads me to getting sick less.”

That’s weird, the tweet mentioned the People’s Republik Of Illinois, but, the article starts out with California

At least seven states and the District of Columbia have offered coverage for immigrants since mostly 2020. But three of them have done an about-face, ending or limiting coverage for hundreds of thousands of immigrants who aren’t in the U.S. legally in California, Illinois and Minnesota.

The programs cost way more than officials had projected at a time when the states are facing multibillion-dollar deficits now and in the future. In Illinois, adult immigrants ages 42-64 without legal status have lost their health care to save an estimated $404 million. All adult immigrants in Minnesota no longer have access to the state program, saving nearly $57 million. In California, no one will automatically lose coverage, but new enrollments for adults will stop in 2026 to save more than $3 billion over several years.

I’ve also been reliably told that Republicans hate illegals/migrants and want them to die, while Democrats are super charitable. Yet, they are taking healthcare away from them.

GOP Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar Pushes (complete BS) Dignity Act

There are times I wonder why I bother with these long posts, since my little blog doesn’t have a huge reach. But, this stuff matters, and Salazar is pushing “not-amnesty” just like Lindsay Graham, John McCain, and George W. Bush. See, it’s totally not amnesty

See? Oh, wait, telling a goodly chunk of illegals and those who’ve been in the US for a long time and do not speak English all about it

That’s her English tweet. Both say the same thing. And she’s been on a tear pushing this not-amnesty. Let’s dig into the actual Not-Amnesty, er, Dignity Act, go right to the big one, which is buried deep in the act (there are more details if you want to dig in full)

The Dignity Program will allow undocumented immigrants in the U.S. to earn legal status if they pass a criminal background check, pay back any taxes owed, and meet other requirements. Participants must also pay restitution to be eligible.

  • Dignity Program. The bill establishes a seven-year deferred action program that would grant employment and travel authorization to undocumented residents who have been continuously in the U.S. since December 31, 2020.
  • DHS estimates there were 10.5 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. in 2020. Of this group, 84 percent had lived in the U.S. for more than 10 years. (snip)
  • Dignity Status: Continued Legal Presence. Those who successfully complete the Dignity Program must apply for the Dignity Status. This legal status is renewable every seven years. Individuals can renew the status in perpetuity, as long as they remain in good standing. The status does not provide a path to U.S. citizenship. It allows individuals to stay and continue living in the U.S., while barring use of any federal means-tested benefits or entitlement programs.

OK, so, not-amnesty, just giving upwards of 10 million illegally present people permanent legal status. Will it really be just 10.3 million? Some estimates are of 20-30 million (let’s say 18.5 million). How about those who are from China and Islamic fundamentalist nations? Do they qualify?

Rest below the fold.

Liberals Who Mostly Didn’t Watch Colbert’s Late Show Freaking Over It Being Cancelled

It really is insane

The end of Stephen Colbert’s Late Show is a concerning nail in the coffin for comedy

The idea that the political career of Donald Trump would be a goldmine for comedy died a long time ago, with the coffin accepting stray nails for the past five years. The latest and possibly last such nail is the cancellation of The Late Show, the CBS late-night talkshow hosted by Stephen Colbert since the fall of 2015, and originated by David Letterman when the network poached him from NBC in 1993. At this point, Trump hasn’t just made topical late-night comedy look outdated, hackneyed and an insufficient response to his reign of terror; he’s also made a chunk of it flat-out go away.

There will be time to eulogize Colbert’s particular talkshow style later; the Late Show isn’t leaving the air for another 10 months, when his contract is up. Surely that leaves plenty more time to savage the president – and Colbert has been in this slot since right around the time Trump became a real contender in the presidential race, so why has this only now come to a head? Seemingly because the axing of the Late Show franchise follows the $16m settlement of a frivolous Trump lawsuit against CBS and their newsmagazine show 60 Minutes over the show’s editing of a 2024 interview with presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Colbert made great fun of his bosses’ payout as a cowardly “bribe” designed to appease the Trump administration, who are in the position to approve or deny the sale of Paramount, the corporate owners of CBS, to the company Skydance. In other words, the pre-merger nixing a comedian who regularly goofs on Trump on network TV seems like a convenient bit of timing – maybe even an unspoken bonus to go along with those millions of dollars.

Shouldn’t late night comedians be, you know, funny? The whole idea was to have light-hearted fluff full of celebs, musicians, comedians, people with animals, etc, where Americans could chill right before bed. Even Al Gore being on with Letterman way back was more funny than political. Johnny Carson intentionally stayed away from politics. Colbert basically made the Late Show a later version of The Daily Show, all hardcore leftist politics. This created a limited audience which would never grow. Which made advertising rates low. They’re advertising to the same people.

And there are all sorts of articles and tweets about it being Trump’s Fault. The Atlantic even tries

Is Colbert’s Ouster Really Just a ‘Financial Decision’?

Yes, yes it was

CBS canned ‘The Late Show’ over tens of millions in financial losses annually — not Stephen Colbert’s politics: sources

CBS brass say they pulled the plug on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” because of its punishing losses — pegged between $40 million and $50?million a year — and claim politics had nothing to do with it, The Post has learned.

The 61-year-old host got canned just days after he took a dig at the Tiffany Network over its $16 million settlement with Donald Trump over a controversial “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris as the network’s parent Paramount negotiates with the Trump administration regulatory approval for its $8?billion sale to independent studio Skydance.

“I am offended, and I don’t know if anything will ever repair my trust in this company,” Colbert said of the truce in his Monday night monologue.

But scathing jokes at the expense of CBS brass wasn’t the problem, according to insiders.

And right there’s a problem: scathing jokes, instead of light-hearted jokes. Colbert was getting paid around $20 million a year for a limited audience, and his show cost way, way too much to produce, with way too many people working on it (I’ve heard about 200 employees)

Instead, the network’s bosses could no longer stomach the fact that Colbert has been plagued with an increasingly dire shortage of advertisers.

That’s despite Colbert’s No, 1 ratings in his time slot and his status as a key face for the Tiffany Network.

Have you ever watched a show and you see the same limited advertisers? That’s the Late Show. With low monetary rates for ads.

Lying liar who tells lies. Maybe she should be more concerned with the lawlessness in Boston from all the illegals. Colbert was preaching to his high end liberal pals, was not funny, not interesting. He didn’t have random people turning in.

Oh Noes: Budget Cuts End Road Raising Project In Florida Keys

There would be no need for raising the roads, or even roads, if you would just stop driving a fossil fueled vehicle

Florida Keys guts road-raising projects, slashes jobs. Budget cuts derail climate plans

Facing federal uncertainty about hurricane relief funds and budget holes, the Florida Keys went on a slashing spree: gutting funding for its landmark road-raising program, exiting a decade-old regional climate change compact and cutting emergency staff roles designed to help prepare for storms.

President Donald Trump’s administration has vowed to gut and remake the Federal Emergency Management Agency, including lowering how much cash the federal agency gives states to rebuild after a disaster.

Specifically, a leaked memo from FEMA suggests the agency is considering dramatically raising the threshold for what qualifies as a disaster, which would lock local governments out from any federal cash if a disaster were small enough, like a hurricane that only brushes Key West but not the rest of the Keys. That could put Monroe on the hook for up to $174 million for a single hurricane.

“We would have zero reimbursement. That could be devastating for the Keys,” said Christine Hurley, Monroe County’s administrator.

I remember in my lifetime when states where not so reliant on the federal government during emergencies, either for aid, rebuilding, or money. When states didn’t immediately demand tons of help. And we shouldn’t be so darned reliant on Los Federales

To make that happen, the Keys cut 40 staff roles, including a floodplain mitigation manager, one employee in the resilience department and cut and consolidated several emergency management roles, just ahead of the peak of hurricane season.

Sounds mostly like scam jobs.

But perhaps the biggest hit of Monroe’s tightening of its purse strings is to its nationally leading program to raise roads ahead of sea level rise, which is already swamping a handful of Keys neighborhoods and expected to inundate up to 90 of them in the next few decades alone.

Key West shows a steady 2.64mm a year in sea rise, equivalent to .87 feet per hundred years, which is slightly above average during the Holocene and below expected during a Holocene warm period. It’s a very good station going back to 1913. Do they need to eventually raise roads? Sure. Because you also have erosion, and the Keys are primarily coral based islands created when the seas were much higher, and you cannot expect stability out in the ocean like that. Plus, land subsistence.

So far, Monroe has spent nearly $300 million to raise roads in just seven communities. The total project list compiled by the county would cost an estimated $4.7 billion — a staggering price for a county of around 80,000 people with an annual budget of about $680 million.

Sounds like they were overspending. I wonder who was get fat at the government trough.

When do they get rid of the airports, cruise ship ports, fossil fueled boats, and so forth?
