Miami Beach Takes Action to Combat Climate Change with Innovative Seawall Project
In the face of rising sea levels and increasing frequency of extreme weather events, Miami Beach has taken a bold step to protect its residents and infrastructure from the impacts of climate change. The city is investing in an innovative seawall project that will not only offer protection against flooding but also incorporate sustainable and eco-friendly features.
The project, which is being spearheaded by the Miami Beach Public Works Department, is set to cover a 2.2-mile stretch of coastline and is expected to cost $500 million. It will replace the existing seawall, which has been in place since the 1920s and is no longer capable of withstanding the increasingly severe storms and high tides brought about by climate change.
First off, the closest stations, Vaca Key and Virginia Key, show 1.30 and .98 feet per 100 years. That Virginia Key goes back to 1931, and shows zero acceleration. Second, Miami Beach is a vacation town, which requires people take lots of fossil fueled travel to get there and get around, not too mention all the cruise ships. Will they ban fossil fuels?
‘Clouds of disinformation and climate change’
Cloud is the term used for remote storage of images, files and other stuff in this digital age.
Every smartphone is connected to its cloud, just as midges follow scotsmen in summer. Maybe it is an acronym, CLOUD – Calamitous Load Of Unexpected Doom? Enormous amounts of energy are required to keep all this information instantly available, with lots of cooling because energy generates heat. We are all fooled into believing smartphones and computers have no carbon footprint, but in reality they seriously add to global warming. (snip to the end, especially since the word “influence” is mentioned)
We should avoid being confused or caught up in these trends. Global warming remains an issue; cattle exhale methane; data hub clouds are worse!
The piece does mention, briefly, that social media is bad for people’s mental health, but, it is worse for anthropogenic global warming, so, all you youts need to stop using it if you believe in climate doom.
6 scholars explain what a real climate solution is
Scientists say there’s a lot we can still do to slow the speed of climate change. But when it comes to “climate solutions”, some are real, and some aren’t, says Naomi Oreskes, historian of science at Harvard University. “This space has become really muddied,” she says. (WT-she’s a far left, Progressive (nice fascim) loon who wants to do away with capitalism, for one thing)
So how does someone figure out what’s legit? We asked six climate scholars for the questions they ask themselves whenever they come across something claiming to be a climate solution.
It may sound basic, but one big way to address climate change is to reduce the main human activity that caused it in the first place: burning fossil fuels.
Scientists say that means ultimately transitioning away from oil, coal and gas and becoming more energy efficient. We already have a lot of the technology we need to make this transition, like solar, wind, and batteries, Oreskes says.
I’ll write it yet again: if fossil fuels are so bad, why is it that the majority of people who believe in climate doom are not giving up their own use of fossil fuels?
