NY Times Is Upset That Right Wingers Objected To Balenciaga Child Bondage Ads

I like the way Yahoo has the headline on their news front page: “Luxury brand yanks 2 ads after right-wing uproar.” Does this mean that the left-wingers have no problem featuring children in very adult, sexualized ads?

When High Fashion and QAnon Collide

Ever since Demna became artistic director of Balenciaga in 2015, the storied brand has become a lightning rod for controversy, often intentionally so. See: remaking IKEA’s 99-cent shopping bag as a luxury good, putting heels on Crocs, selling destroyed sneakers for $1,850, dressing Kim Kardashian in a head-to-toe black body stocking for the Met Gala, and sending models who looked like refugees down the runway carrying trash bags made of expensive leather.

The outrage provoked by such moments often seemed to be the whole point. Each only bolstered the reputation of Demna’s Balenciaga as a brand that forces consumers to grapple with the very meaning of “taste.”

Now, however, the release of two new campaigns by Balenciaga, which is owned by Kering, the French luxury conglomerate that also owns brands such as Gucci and Saint Laurent, has taken the public opprobrium to a new level. One campaign featured photos of children clutching handbags that look like teddy bears in bondage gear. Another campaign featured photos that include paperwork about child pornography laws. Together, they ignited a firestorm that traveled from the internet to Fox News, fueled by allegations that Balenciaga condoned child exploitation. The controversy has become one of the most explicit collisions of internet culture, politics, fashion and conspiracy theories to date.

The meaning of taste in putting children in these ads like that? These people are demented. You apparently need to be Qanon to complain about the ads

On Nov. 28, almost two weeks after the storm started brewing — and after a series of Instagram apologies that failed to quell it — the brand issued a statement admitting “a series of grievous errors for which Balenciaga takes responsibility.” The fashion house announced ongoing “internal and external investigations” and “new controls” and said it was reaching out to “organizations who specialize in child protection and aim at ending child abuse and exploitation.”

Balenciaga blamed the ad agency they hired, but, executives at Balanciaga surely knew what was coming. Ads are not developed in a vacuum. The people coming up with the ads will run their thoughts by the suits, and, the final product will need to be approved by someone at Balenciaga before going active. And the NY Times article notes that employees were on hand for the photoshoots. Did no one say “um, this is a bad idea?”

The internet is full of trolls. Why did this controversy take off?

As online criticism of the campaigns spread, the story was picked up across right-leaning media outlets, including The New York Post and the prime time Fox News show “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” The show has helped to publicize and mainstream QAnon, the internet conspiracy theory that “a group of Satan-worshipping elites who run a child sex ring are trying to control our politics and media.”

“Here you have a major international retail brand promoting kiddie porn and sex with children,” Carlson told viewers on Nov. 22, “and not promoting it subtly but right out in the open.”

See, it’s only right-wingers that have a problem with sexualizing children. And trolls. Apparently, those who complained about the ads are trolls. Liberals are just fine with it. That’s the meaning I take out of it.

And maybe they are

California Releases Thousands of Convicted Pedophiles Within a Year of Conviction

California has released thousands of convicted pedophiles after spending only a few months in prison.

Such pedophiles have been convicted of “a range of horrific acts, including raping kids under 14,” according to the study investigation conducted by the U.K. Daily Mail.

More than 7,000 persons convicted of “lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age” have been released in the same year they were convicted. Convicts who committed even more heinous crimes, such as sodomy and rape of children, also served short sentences.

Some short sentences include 365 pedophiles convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child — all of whom spent fewer than 12 months in prison. Thirty-nine cases were convictions for sodomy with a child under the age of 16, while there were three cases of kidnapping a child under the age of 14 “with intent to commit lewd or lascivious acts.”

Most of this has appeared to happen in the past 10 years in the People’s Republik Of California. Are you Liberals good with this?

Hotcold Take: Puerto Rico Towns Sue Fossil Fuels Companies, Alleging RICO Act Violations

Here’s an idea: all the companies being sued should stop selling their products in Puerto Rico and for use for Puerto Rico

Puerto Rican towns sue Big Oil under RICO alleging collusion on climate denial

Puerto Rican municipalities have filed a lawsuit in federal court saying ExxonMobil Corp, Shell Plc, Chevron Corp and others colluded to publicly downplay the risks of their fossil-fuel products on climate change and are financially responsible for damages from the devastating 2017 hurricane season, which was made worse by global warming.

The group of 16 municipalities filed what they called a first-of-its-kind lawsuit last week against about a dozen fossil fuel companies and others. The towns say the companies coordinated a multibillion-dollar “fraudulent marketing scheme” to convince consumers that fossil fuel products do not alter the climate. That campaign ran contrary to the companies’ own studies showing their products accelerate climate change, resulting in more deadly storms, the lawsuit said.

The municipalities said the companies outlined a plan of deception in a joint memo that took aim at international climate negotiations in the 1990s. The coordinated deception spanning decades violates U.S. racketeering and antitrust laws among others, the suit claims.

“Puerto Rico was hit by the perfect storm and is the ultimate victim of global warming,” said Marc Grossman, a partner at Milberg Coleman Bryson Phillips Grossman, a firm representing the municipalities, in a statement.

It’s basically a shakedown, one in which the lawyers will get a lot of money. Nowhere in the suit are those 16 municipalities pledging to forgo the use of fossil fuels. And, PR wouldn’t survive in the modern world without them. They need them for tourism. They need them for the planes that fly in to deliver tourists, as well as being a stopping point before people take fossil fueled flights to other Caribbean islands or jump on cruise ships. Plus the cruise ships that come to PR. All the fishing boats. All the hotels. And simply delivering so many goods and foods.

PR has very limited resources, so, pretty much everything must be brought in. Can they do away with stuff coming in on sailing ships? Heck, all that Puerto Rican rum which is so prized? Yeah, they have to import most of the molasses to make it.

(Britannica) Services, including trade, finance, tourism, and government work, have become the dominant and most dynamic force in Puerto Rico’s economy, accounting for about half of the GDP and as much as three-fourths of employment on the island. Government functions produce about one-tenth of the island’s GDP and employ roughly one-fifth of the workforce.

None of that survives without fossil fuels. Did fossil fuels cause Hurricane San Roque in 1508? How about the Great Hurricane in 1780?

Media Seems Rather Upset Over “Whataboutism” From Trump’s Stupid Dinner With Nick Fuentes

It is possible that two things can be true. Trump can be wrong, and Democrats can be wrong. It’s just that the Credentialed Media ignores the Democrat faux pas/covers for them. How many are covering the case of non-binary wackjob in charge of disposing of America’s nuclear material Sam Brinton stealing a suitcase from an airport (this story is insane)? They sure covered him when he got the job

Trump’s dinner with antisemites? Some Republicans attempt to change the topic

In the wake of former President Donald Trump’s dinner with Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, and notorious Holocaust denier and white supremacist Nick Fuentes, some Republican lawmakers have engaged in “whataboutism,” the practice of responding to one allegation with a counter-accusation on a different issue.

But those attempts to shift the conversation largely miss some important context.

Notably, Trump has not apologized for the meeting or criticized the antisemitic views of the guests he dined with at Mar-a-Lago. West’s recent antisemitic statements have cost him millions of dollars in endorsements and other business deals. Fuentes, a fan of Adolf Hitler, has compared Jews killed in World War II in concentration camp ovens to cookies.

On Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, responded to the White House condemnation of Trump’s meeting by pivoting to President Biden’s eulogy for Sen. Robert Byrd. Cruz pointed out that the late West Virginia senator had once been an organizer and member of the Ku Klux Klan.

Oh, but, see, Robert “Sheets” Byrd apologized (wink wink). Does anyone think the media would accept Trump apologizing? Or would they use that to further bash Trump? The Yahoo News piece has a photo of Ilhan Omar. Has she ever apologized for her Jew and Israel hating comments? How about for her “some people did something” on 9/11 comment (that Washington Post piece is attempting to cover for her).

In a Monday interview with CNN, Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., criticized Trump’s judgment for meeting with West and Fuentes, but he then sought to blame the media. He equated the antisemitic views of Fuentes with those of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.

“And I can shed some light on why Republicans don’t immediately respond to many in the media every time they’re offended by something Trump does, is because a lot of Republicans believe there’s a double standard in the media,” Comer said. “We have seen things that Ilhan Omar has said. We don’t get asked if we condemn that by the mainstream media.”

The media doesn’t condemn it. The cover for it. It doesn’t mean Trump was very wrong, he was.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., called Trump out for breaking bread with West and Fuentes, but accused the media of hypocrisy.

“No, the meeting was bad. He shouldn’t have done it,” Graham said. “But again, you know, there’s a double standard about this kind of stuff. And I don’t think it’ll matter in terms of his political future, but I do believe we need to watch who we meet with. We shouldn’t give oxygen to people who think this way.”

Graham likened Trump’s meeting with Fuentes to instances in which some Democratic lawmakers met with former Nation of Islam leader and unrepentant antisemite Louis Farrakhan.

Yes, it is a double standard. Trump was still wrong. And the whole story is attempting to say Trump was wrong and why are we even discussing these other things? Proving Graham’s point.

Also Your Fault: Zombie Virus Revived Due To ‘Climate Change’

I’m just so sick of your denier attitude. Just give up your money and freedom already so we can stop this. Sheesh

Scientists Revive 48,500-Year-Old ‘Zombie Virus’ Buried in Ice

The thawing of ancient permafrost due to climate change may pose a new threat to humans, according to researchers who revived nearly two dozen viruses – including one frozen under a lake more than 48,500 years ago.

European researchers examined ancient samples collected from permafrost in the Siberia region of Russia. They revived and characterized 13 new pathogens, what they termed “zombie viruses,” and found that they remained infectious despite spending many millennia trapped in the frozen ground.

Scientists have long warned that the thawing of permafrost due to atmospheric warming will worsen climate change by freeing previously trapped greenhouse gases like methane. But its effect on dormant pathogens is less well understood.

The team of researchers from Russia, Germany and France said the biological risk of reanimating the viruses they studied was “totally negligible” due to the strains they targeted, mainly those capable of infecting amoeba microbes. The potential revival of a virus that could infect animals or humans is much more problematic, they said, warning that their work can be extrapolated to show the danger is real.

So, essentially, they were digging in the permafrost and down into the frozen lake, and, because of that, scientists are freaking over the possibility of maybe possibly viruses being uncovered by melting….say, how’d they get down there in the first place, under all that ice and such? It couldn’t have possibly been due to Earth having been warmer in the past, right? It’s always some sort of doomsaying with these people, and no one in the media ever points out things like “why are they under the ice?”

Supreme Court Takes Up Case On Biden’s “Sanctuary Country”

This seems to be one of those cases which seems to have a serious Constitutional component, where it’s being taken up because the majority on the Court want to make something happen, and it will be up to the lawyers for the states to make a good argument to Court to kill off Biden’s pro-illegal rules

SCOTUS to Hear Case Challenging Joe Biden’s ‘Sanctuary Country’ Orders

Americans before illegalsThe Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) will hear oral arguments in a case where states are seeking to block President Joe Biden’s so-called “sanctuary country” orders from being implemented.

In February 2021, Biden implemented a series of enforcement orders that protect most of the nation’s 11 to 22 million illegal aliens from arrest and deportation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Specifically, the orders prevent ICE agents from arresting and deporting most illegal aliens in the U.S. unless they are considered a threat to public safety, a threat to national security, or arrived sometime after November 2020.

In August 2021, Judge Drew Tipton of the Southern District of Texas issued a nationwide preliminary injunction, halting the implementation of the orders, after Texas and Louisiana sued the Biden administration. That injunction was put on hold by a three-judge panel in September 2021 but the full 17-judge Fifth Circuit vacated that decision.

The Brandon admin is going to argue today that the orders only have “incidental effect”, hence, states are not allowed to sue the federal government. And the States are arguing

First, it is contrary to law because sections 1226(c) and 1231(a)(2) mandate detention, as this Court has repeatedly stated. DHS identifies no INA provision that prevents this Court from reaching that conclusion. Second, the Final Memorandum is arbitrary and capricious because it failed to consider important aspects of the problems criminal aliens create, including recidivism and States’ reliance interests. Third, the Final Memorandum is procedurally invalid because it was not adopted through notice-and-comment procedures, which are required where agency action substantively changes a regulatory regime. [Emphasis added]

Interesting arguments. I’m no lawyer, but, perhaps they should be straight up arguing that federal law requires illegal aliens to be deported, and that the Constitution requires the federal government to protect the borders? Sometimes, lawyers can get a bit too cute.

Someone in the Breitbart comments makes a good point

Trump showed exactly how to easily fix the illegal immigration problem. Just reinstate his policies (plus add a few others he wasn’t able to at the time, and it’d be even better).

? Actually enforce existing laws
? Remain in Mexico to await legal hearings for asylum
? Loudly publicize that they will NOT be released in to the nation
? Loudly publicize that they will be returned to their starting country
? Loudly publicize that if caught a second time, they will be criminally prosecuted
? Finish the wall
? Deport all illegals caught, especially those with any criminal offenses
? Detain all caught until they can be deported – no more catch and release
? E-verify or clear proof of citizenship for hiring (Trump didn’t manage to implement that one, unfortunately)
? Make it clear that they will NOT get amnesty, and will NOT get citizenship
? Make it clear that they are welcome to come here legally – but if they do so illegally, they will be treated as criminals
? Deport back to their home nations, not just across the border into Mexico where they can turn right around and easily try again
? Go after visa overstays rather than ignoring them (Trump didn’t implement this one either)
? Stop giving them welfare, food stamps, etc.

Well, yes.

Your Fault: Autumn Is Doing Different Things

If only you had given up your own use of fossil fueled vehicles decades ago this wouldn’t be happening

What happened to autumn? Scientists point to climate change

stop global warmingRegarded by millions of Americans as their favorite season, autumn for many regions of the United States has traditionally been marked by the gradual transition from hot summer weather to frigid winter temperatures. But in recent years, fall seems to have all but disappeared — especially in the Northeast — and experts say climate change is partly to blame.

Throughout October of this year, a time normally associated with crisp weather and changing leaves, many parts of the Northeast saw temperatures upwards of 70 degrees Fahrenheit. And then, seemingly overnight, the weather turned much colder.

In Spokane, Wash., the warmest October on record was quickly followed in early November by the season’s first freeze and snowfall. By the end of the third week in November, snow had fallen all over upstate New York, and Buffalo, N.Y., received a record-breaking 6 feet of snow.

Got that? Record breaking snow is due to heat trapping gases.

“We’re seeing this weather whiplash here in the fall, where it can be so warm, it can have record warm temperatures, and then very quickly we can transition into a very cold period,” Judah Cohen, director of seasonal forecasting at Atmospheric and Environmental Research, told Yahoo News.

Experts such as Cohen say climate change is a factor. Weather is fluky, and it’s impossible to ascribe most individual events to climate change, but climate change is creating the conditions, starting with a longer, hotter summer, that make fall-less years more likely.

The Cult of Climastrology seemingly does this every year these days. But, is it completely unusual? No. There are plenty of reports of non-seasonal weather back in the 30’s, when there was a big temperature spike, well before CO2 broke it’s “safe” level of 350ppm. And during the cooling period of the late 40’s through the late 70’s. The phrase “Indian summer” isn’t something new. Temperatures increasing during a Holocene warm period shouldn’t be surprising.

One might expect, then, that typical fall weather would just be shifted until later in the year, as it would take longer for temperatures to drop to those historically associated with winter. But there’s another wrinkle attributed to climate change that explains why winter temperatures suddenly crash onto the country, plunging millions into winterlike conditions: warmer Arctic temperatures in places like Alaska that send polar vortices southward.

“I would summarize the whipsawing from weather extremes this fall as the summation of two competing factors: ambient warming due to increasing greenhouse gases and an increase in polar vortex stretching,” Cohen said.

Cults always come up with some sort of Reason that supports their cult beliefs.

Biden Wants Congress To Ratify Choo Choo Train Deal To Avoid Strike

I’m all for doing what’s necessary to avoid a strike, as my business is 100% dependent on moving product via train

Biden calls on Congress to intervene to avert rail shutdown

President Biden on Monday called on Congress to pass legislation to avert a rail shutdown before Dec. 9, warning of major disruptions to the U.S. economy if lawmakers don’t act.

He said Congress should pass a bill “immediately to adopt the Tentative Agreement between railroad workers and operators — without any modifications or delay — to avert a potentially crippling national rail shutdown.”

Biden’s plea to Congress comes amid an ongoing labor standoff that could shut down crucial shipments of food and fuel.

In response to Biden’s call, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a statement, “This week, the House will take up a bill adopting the Tentative Agreement — with no poison pills or changes to the negotiated terms — and send it to the Senate.”

I have a question: why would it be necessary for Congress to pass a bill? Isn’t this an agreement between private entities? How is it possible for the Congress to pass a bill and have it binding for private enterprises and the unions involved? Especially since it seems that several of the unions have said “no”?

“On the day that it was announced, labor leaders, business leaders, and elected officials all hailed it as a fair resolution of the dispute between the hard-working men and women of the rail freight unions and the companies in that industry,” he said.

While I agree with wanting to avoid a crippling strike, under what authority can the Congress force this upon the parties involved?

Biden, in his statement, warned about the outcome if there is a shutdown.

“Let me be clear: a rail shutdown would devastate our economy. Without freight rail, many U.S. industries would shut down,” he said, adding that union workers would be out of work, communities would struggle to get chemicals that ensure clean drinking water and farmers and ranchers would be unable to feed their livestock.

He’s not wrong. Not wrong in the least. He also wants, again, zero changes. No adding this or that or the other from Democrats or Republicans. Who’s your bet on the first to attempt to attach ryders to the bill? I’m going with Squad members.
