Biden plans floating platforms to expand offshore wind power

The Biden administration on Thursday announced plans to develop floating platforms in the deep ocean for wind towers that could power millions of homes and vastly expand offshore wind in the United States.

The plan would target sites in the Pacific Ocean off the California and Oregon coasts, as well as in the Atlantic in the Gulf of Maine.

President Joe Biden hopes to deploy up to 15 gigawatts of electricity through floating sites by 2035, enough to power 5 million homes. The administration has previously set a goal of 30 GW of offshore wind by 2030 using traditional technology that secures wind turbines to the ocean floor. (snip)

The Biden administration “is all-in on making floating offshore wind a real part of our of our energy mix and winning the global race to lead in this space,” Granholm said. ”And that’s why we set this big, hairy audacious goal” of 15 gigawatts of floating offshore wind by 2035.

It’s not quiet deep water, but, how about

Think he’d be good with a bunch of floating wind turbines right there? Or regular ones? Or, will he try and block them like John Kerry and Ted Kennedy did for the Cape Wind project?

Understand, I’m not against this. I’m for it. I think it’s a great idea. We have to account for rough seas and storms and running the power lines, along with upkeep, but, sure, take advantage of the wind which is free without ruining the view. And not having massive concrete pads like for onshore ones. But, you know the Elite climate cultists will not want to see them. And, if they’d stop pushing this stuff because of ‘climate change’, they’d get more support.

It’s Time to Call MAGA a National Security Threat

Former President Donald Trump and his MAGA movement’s full-throated embrace of violent extremism and hateful conspiracy theories has given President Joe Biden and Democrats a perfect opening to officially declare MAGA and its allies as an active terror threat.

Ideally, President Biden would have made this announcement at the United We Stand Summit held at the White House, attended by diverse community leaders from across the nation to discuss best strategies and practices to counter hate-fueled violence affecting our democracy and public safety. But the opportunity remains.

If we are to be blunt and honest, this “hate-fueled violence” that is threatening all of our communities is primarily coming from a single source: an incestuous network of MAGA actors, promoted by the GOP and right-wing media, who have increasingly threatened law enforcement, Democrats, educators, poll watchers, doctors, Republicans who don’t support Trump, and anyone and every institution that stands in the way of their white Christian nationalist utopia.

Look, if they want to start a civil war, keep it up. If we wanted to really be what they’re accusing us of, well, we own way more guns than the left does, and we know how to use them. One would think these revelations in light of the recent violence would be leading the news cycle. However, since Trump is a white man, and the criminal suspects aren’t Muslim, there is no War on Terror. Instead, some media outlets are bending over backward to court Republican viewers and criticize President Biden for speaking in front of U.S. marines, like Republican and Democratic presidents have done many times before him.

Well, I didn’t see the raaaaacism aspect coming in, did you? Not really that surprising, since the left likes to stoke the flames of racial animosity.

According to the FBI, domestic terrorism is defined as “violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.” In case you’ve forgotten, thousands of Trump’s supporters were, in part, incited by him to attack the nation’s Capitol on Jan. 6 as part of his failed coup attempt to overthrow our democracy. They were armed with guns, baseball bats, stun guns, flagpoles wielded as clubs, pepper spray, rope, and one suspect allegedly planted bombs. Their actions fit the FBI’s definition to a T.

We can’t dismiss them as outliers. They are not the exception. They are the GOP’s base.

See, if you believe in things like the Constitution, freedom, low taxes, limited government, personal responsibility, working hard, and aren’t a Woke nutjob, you’re a terrorist. Why not just split the country now? The compact has been broken.

Mass. Sends National Guard To Martha’s Vineyard Over Migrants

Massachusetts Activates 125 National Guardsmen To Support 50 Illegal Migrants In Martha’s Vineyard

Massachusetts is activating 125 national guardsmen to help transport the 50 illegal immigrants who recently arrived at the island of Martha’s Vineyard late Wednesday off the island, Republican Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker announced Friday.

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent the migrants to Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday as part of the state’s program transporting illegal migrants to sanctuary cities. Massachusetts is now activating its national guard and offering to transport the migrants to Joint Base Cape Cod, Baker announced.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is coordinating with state and local officials to provide food and shelter, according to CBS. Baker said locals had provided temporary shelter to the migrants but were unable to help them long-term.

One of the richest cities in America cannot take care of 50 illegals? Oh, right, they do not want The Poors around the high class and fancy-todo area of Martha’s Vineyard. Diversity is for those Other Areas.

The move to the military base will be voluntary, according to Baker, who noted that Joint Base Cape Cod has previously housed people fleeing Hurricane Katrina and served as a medical site during for COVID-19. It will now offer food and shelter, healthcare and legal services to the 50 migrants, according to Baker.

Voluntary, huh?

I’m sure it’s voluntary when they see the NG decked out in full uniform and carrying weapons, right?

Important Information: Grading Toilet Paper For Climate (scam) Impacts

Scorecard grades toilet paper brands in terms of climate change impact

Americans use an estimated 36.5 billion rolls of toilet paper every year and the average consumer will go through the equivalent of 384 trees just for toilet paper in the course of a lifetime. Deforestation causes a range of environmental problems, including loss of wildlife habitats and biodiversity. It also contributes to climate change, since trees absorb and store carbon dioxide, which is the most common greenhouse gas.

If only the toilet paper companies would do things like replant trees. Oh, and when are Warmists giving up their own use of toilet paper?

Amid a growing interest in which brands use the best sustainability practices, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), an environmental advocacy organization, analyzed the sourcing of the largest brands of toilet paper, facial tissue and paper towels on the U.S. market. Its resulting scorecard, released on Wednesday, gives failing sustainability grades to most of the biggest household names.

The four-largest name brands in the country — Angel Soft, Charmin, Cottonelle, and Quilted Northern — all received an F.

Will this stop anyone from using them? How about you Warmists, will you switch?

“As this year’s scorecard shows, the largest tissue brands in America are failing the climate, communities, and biodiversity by continuing to create their products from forests like the Canadian boreal, which stores more carbon than any other terrestrial ecosystem,” wrote NRDC’s Ashley Jordan in a blog post explaining the ratings. The largest brands, she added, are made “almost exclusively from virgin forest fiber and fail to avoid sourcing from primary forests.”

And your bum thanks them, especially the morning after a spicy dinner

Of the 58 types of toilet paper scored by NRDC, 12 received either an A or A+ because they are made from post-consumer recycled paper. The vast majority of those are specifically eco-conscious products, including Green Forest, Natural Value, Nature’s Promise, Seventh Generation Soft and Strong, and Marcal 100% Recycled.

Most of those tend to be either more expensive, fall apart too easy, or not as soft. Or all three.

Some environmental experts say that replanting is not an adequate substitute for preserving existing trees. Cutting down trees can destroy wildlife habitats, which are not immediately replaced by a much younger and smaller tree in its place. A 2019 study also found that new trees have less nutrients, due to the effect of logging on soil. Replanted trees are often also all of the same species, creating a less rich ecosystem than what is found in nature and making the forest more susceptible to infestation by fungus or invasive species.

Aren’t carbon credits and offsets based on planting trees? Sigh. Anyhow, these people are just wackadoodle for grading toilet paper, paper towels, and facial tissues. They really are. These are people who’s lives are so good that they can waste time like this.

Fog Could Maybe Possibly Be Disappearing From San Francisco Due To Climate Doom

It was the first morning of summer, the start of fog season. But the sky above the Golden Gate Bridge remained clear and blue.

Chris Dzierman, a bridge painter and foreman, looked to the west. Near the horizon, where water usually meets sky, a thick fog bank lurked. He wondered if and when it would roll in, as fog usually does on summer afternoons, smothering the bridge and beyond in wind and whiteness.

“It could last three minutes or three hours,” Mr. Dzierman said. “It’s fog. It’s got a mind of its own.”

Every summer, fog breathes life into the Bay Area. But people who pay attention to its finer points, from scientists to sailors, city residents to real estate agents, gardeners to bridge painters, debate whether there is less fog than there used to be, as both science and general sentiment suggest.

“Suggest” is not science.

The ecological, economic and social effects of fog are profound, perhaps no more than in Northern California. Changes would be life-altering. But understanding fog is one of science’s toughest tricks. Quantifying the changes and determining possible causes, including global warming, is climatology’s version of chasing ghosts.

Otto Klemm, a professor of climatology at the University of Münster in Germany, is more certain. He has studied data from airports all over the world.

“Fog has decreased, more or less everywhere,” he said, attributing the link both to climate change and to lower levels of air pollution, as water droplets have fewer particulates to cling to. “Of about 1,000 stations, 600 or 700 show a statistically significant decrease. All over Europe, all over North America, South America — everywhere.”

So, cleaner air is reducing fog? Huh. You need to pay penance for this.

Excitable Gavin Newsome Wants DOJ To Consider Kidnapping Charges Against DeSantis And Abbott

Gavin Newsom asks DOJ to consider ‘kidnapping’ charges after GOP governors ship migrants out of state

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has asked the Department of Justice to look into whether sending migrants to other parts of the country constituted kidnapping or other federal crimes.

In a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Newsom asked whether actions by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sending illegal immigrants from their respective states to destinations such as New York City, Washington, D.C. Chicago, and Martha’s Vineyard were illegal.

“Several of the individuals who were transported to Martha’s Vineyard have alleged that a recruiter induced them to accept the offer of travel based on false representations that they would be transported to Boston and would receive expedited access to work authorization,” Newsom wrote. “I urge US DOJ to investigate whether the alleged fraudulent inducement would support charges of kidnapping under relevant state laws.”

Do Democrats understand just how bad this makes them look to the average citizen? Obviously, they couldn’t care less what Republicans think, but, what of the Independents and little D Democrats, who could flip their votes, or just sit out?

Not that this actually happened, but, perhaps Nikki could ask the White House who transported those illegals/migrants to Florida in the first place. And then

Bummer: GOP Going After The Stupid Climate Disclosure Rules

Republicans planning legal assault on climate disclosure rules for public companies

Republican officials and corporate lobby groups are teeing up a multi-pronged legal assault on the Biden administration’s effort to help investors hold public corporations accountable for their carbon emissions and other climate change risks.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed new climate disclosure rules in March that would require public companies to report the climate-related impact and risks to their businesses.

The regulator has since received more than 14,500 comments. Submissions from 24 Republican state attorneys general and some of the country’s most powerful industry associations suggest that these groups are preparing a series of legal challenges after the regulation is finalized, which could happen as soon as next month.

“I would expect a litigation challenge to be brought immediately once the final rule is released,” Jill E Fisch, a business law professor at the University of Pennsylvania, told the Guardian. “They probably have their complaints already drafted, and they’re ready to file.”

Are the investor clamoring for these disclosures, or just activists and climate cult politicians?

Some opponents claim that requiring companies to publish climate-related information infringes on their right to free speech. Others (often the same ones) say that the rule exceeds the SEC’s legal authority.

Yes to both, but, mostly to exceeding SEC authority

In West Virginia v EPA, the supreme court endorsed a relatively novel legal notion – the so-called “major questions doctrine” – to halt an EPA effort to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. As the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists explained, “Under this doctrine, when a regulation crosses a certain threshold of being ‘major’ – a line which remains poorly defined – the court rejects the regulation unless it has been clearly authorized by Congress.”

This is a massive rule not explicitly authorized by the Legislative Branch, but, the climate cultists do not care, they’ll keep pushing.

Sen. Warren Admits Inflation Reduction Act Won’t Bring Down Energy Prices For A Long Time

She had her talking points down, as she didn’t refer to it as a climate bill, like so many did after its passage

Warren: Inflation Act Doesn’t Lower Utility Costs for Years, But That’s Where ‘Everybody’ ‘Would Like to See Those Prices Come Down’

On Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) stated that the Inflation Reduction Act is “partly about bringing down utility costs, and it’s partly about bringing down healthcare costs.” But admitted it only does so in the long run and stated that “long-term is where, I think, everybody in America would like to see those prices come down.”

Host Andrea Mitchell said, “[T]he Inflation Reduction Act, so named, doesn’t really reduce inflation. It brings the deficit down, less than one might have hoped because of Manchin and Sinema taking things out on the tax piece of it.”

Warren responded, “It absolutely brings the deficit down. And remember, if you think that the problem that causes inflation is too much money floating around in the economy, then it absolutely attacks that directly. But what it does that I think we have to remember about inflation is it attacks costs directly where families live. So, the Inflation Reduction Act is partly about bringing down utility costs, and it’s partly about bringing down healthcare costs.”

Unfortunately, Mitchell missed the opportunity to ask “how? How will the IRA bring down utility costs?” The answer would have probably been along the lines of building more wind farms and solar farms while cutting off natural gas and coal, replacing reliable, dependable, and affordable energy with expensive and hit-or-miss energy. If Warren even answered rather than deflected

Mitchell then pointed out that both of those are “long-term” and don’t “kick in until ’25 or so.”

Warren responded, “But long-term is where, I think, everybody in America would like to see those prices come down. This is literally the first time that big pharma has lost in a battle to be able to keep raising prices forever and ever. And Democrats — again, Democrats have a real plan to bring down prices, while Republicans just stand by and scream.”

Mitchell failed to ask “how” on that, too. What will cause energy prices to come down, and, if they do, how will we know that the IRA had anything to do with it 3 years from now? Just the electric vehicle stuff will cause utility prices to rise as more use electricity to charge their cars. Most upper middle class and rich folks, of course, since the middle and working classes won’t be switching to too expensive vehicles.
