Doom Today: Hotcoldwetdry Could Threaten Firefly Populations

If it’s not one thing, it’s something else

Climate change threatens overall firefly populations, study shows, but Midwest could see increase

For many who grew up east of the Mississippi River, yellow twinkling lights punctuate magical childhood memories. New England natives call them fireflies, but they’re known as lightning bugs from the Midwest to the South. No matter their regional name, they are a staple of warm summer evenings.

Yet concerns about how many more generations will be able to bask in the glow of this nostalgic phenomenon have emerged in recent decades as anecdotal reports and observations in certain locations seemingly indicate firefly numbers are dwindling.

“We kept hearing all these stories that fireflies were in decline, firefly populations were disappearing, and as an invertebrate conservation organization, that always piques our interest,” said Candace Fallon, a senior conservation biologist who has led firefly research in the endangered species program at the Xerces Society since 2018. “So we decided to look into it a little bit more, and started doing formal assessments, building partnerships and working with other researchers, and it’s really grown since then.”

While scientists have long known firefly populations can be influenced by pesticides, artificial lights, soil and weather, a study published last month suggests that human-made climate change may pose an even greater threat than previously thought. The study also predicts that, while numbers might decline for most species with specific habitat needs, certain areas of the country such as the Midwest might experience population growth of some common firefly species as average temperatures become warmer.

“Anecdotal.” “Suggests”. Not that any of that really matters, this is all about scaremongering. And the cult will never stop looking for new ways to scaremonger. All while the majority of them refuse to give up their own use of fossil fuels and make their own lives carbon neutral.

This is a very, very long article, and we get too

Firefly lovers can help preserve the insects by maintaining native plant species in backyards instead of trying to keep “perfectly manicured lawns” treated with weed killers and pesticides.

That’s not climate change, but, certainly, having more plants will help. All the destruction of wilderness, even small spaces, has made a difference for the worst.

Surprise: Liberals In SCB Totally Agree With Booting Illegals From Logan Airport

Hmm, whatever happened to all that charity and support for migrants/illegals by Democrats? Oh, right, they’re good with this as long as they aren’t in Sanctuary City Boston

Readers agree with Gov. Healey’s ban on migrants sleeping at Logan Airport

Newly arrived migrant families and homeless individuals will be banned from sleeping overnight at Logan International Airport starting Tuesday, amid a shortage of space at state shelters.

In an announcement on June 28, Healey said sleeping overnight in Logan Airport will no longer be permitted as of July 9. Staff members at Logan will inform families of the new policy and will help them secure transportation to another location where they have family or other options for a safe place to stay, according to the release.

Instead, they’ll be sent to the old Norfolk prison shelter, which is, get this, outside of Boston to the southwest.

When we asked Boston.com readers to weigh in, they overwhelmingly agreed with the policy. Ninety-six percent of the 651 respondents to our poll said they support the governor’s decision to bar overnighting at Logan, with just 4% against it.

“Enough is enough! The line needs to be drawn somewhere and Maura Healey’s decision to bar people from sleeping overnight at Logan Airport is absolutely the right one,” reader Jeff from Natick said. (snip)

“I think the state has done its best to try to find alternative living situations for people on a temporary basis, including the new facility in Norfolk. I think it’s the right move to say that we can’t keep having families living at Logan, and I applaud the efforts to try to find alternative places for people to stay,” Thielman added.

Yeah, and those who are having to travel through the airport aren’t particularly thrilled with a whole bunch of illegals wandering around, sleeping, panhandling. And the illegals are in Boston, not elsewhere.

“The airport is not equipped to house anyone. Living in an airport with kids is not safe. I also think it’s time to revisit the sanctuary status, not to stop it but so that the influx of migrants can be controlled so a better chance of success and the proper amount of funds are allocated.”

Controlled better, so they are somewhere else other than Boston.

James Infohe, Senator And Guy Who Fought Against Climate Cult, Dead At 69

Apparently, being against the Cult of Climastrology is the only thing he’s known for

Those are just from when I searched “climate change”, then “James Inhofe” on Google News. And there are plenty more, as well as those who do not say it in the headline but mention it in the first paragraph. He’s actually done a hell of a lot more than being a climate cult skeptic. He was very much a staunch conservative and a huge friend of the U.S. military

(Fox News) James Mountain Inhofe started serving Congress in Washington in 1987 in the House of Representatives before being elected to the Senate in 1994. At one point, he was the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Prior to his time in Washington, Inhofe served as the mayor in his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, between 1978 and 1984, according to the Oklahoma Historical Society. He also served in the U.S. Army in 1955-56 and was president of the Quaker Life Insurance Company before entering politics, it added.

Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Okla., described Inhofe on Tuesday as a “dear friend and mentor, a titan in Oklahoma, and a highly effective leader in D.C.”

He’d probably take the Credentialed Media headlines as a badge of honor. Heck, some of the same outlets have given better treatment to wackjobs. Remember when the Washington Post (which is the 2nd link) called Islamic terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi something nice?

(USA Today) Its original headline read, “Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Islamic State’s ‘terrorist-in-chief,’ dies at 48.” But it was later changed to “Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, austere religious scholar at helm of Islamic State, dies at 48.”

It was changed back, but the article still describes the terrorist as an “austere religious scholar with wire-frame glasses and no known aptitude for fighting and killing.” Think James is being treated more harshly for refusing to bow down to the climate cult?

TDS: Schumer Introducing Bill Stripping Trump Of Immunity

It won’t pass the House. It might not pass the Senate. If, by some reason it did pass and made it to Biden’s desk and he signed it the Supreme Court would kill it. It is seriously deranged how much Trump has gotten into their heads, and really, isn’t it un-Constitutional to try and pass a law that targets exactly one person? If the law is more broad, well, Chuck should remember that it would leave Biden open to prosecution

Schumer pushing bill to strip Trump of court-granted immunity

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced Monday that he and other Senate Democrats will work to advance legislation to strip former President Trump of the immunity he was granted under a recent Supreme Court ruling protecting a president’s official acts from criminal prosecution.

Schumer, invoking Congress’s powers to regulate the courts, said Democrats are working on legislation to classify Trump’s efforts to subvert the results of the 2020 election as “unofficial acts” so they do not merit immunity from criminal prosecution under the high court’s recent 6-3 decision.

“They incorrectly declared that former President Trump enjoys broad immunity from criminal prosecution for actions he took while in office. They incorrectly declared that all future presidents are entitled to a breathtaking level of immunity so long as their conduct is ostensibly carried out in their official capacity as president,” Schumer said on the Senate floor.

Schumer said the court’s conservative justices had “effectively placed a crown on Donald Trump’s head,” putting him above the law and making him “in many ways untouchable.”

“I will work with my colleagues on legislation classifying Trump’s election subversion acts as unofficial acts not subject to immunity,” he announced. “We’re doing this because we believe that in America no president should be free to overturn an election against the will of the people, no matter what the conservative justices may believe.”

Hmm, sounds like Chuck is trying to subvert Democracy! by refusing to comply with the rulings of the Judicial Branch, to use Democrat language. Regulating the courts does not allow the Senate to disregard/change a Supreme Court ruling, nor strip Constitutionally guaranteed immunity. The only way to change immunity is with an Amendment, and, you can bet if the People and States are voting on it they’ll remove immunity from Congress.

This is just straight up lawfare. And an attempt at talking points, since it will never get a vote in the House. Though, it could be interesting if the House would take the bill and change it to specifically add on that Joe Biden is no immune for his time in office, and see how Democrats vote.

Your Fault: ‘Climate Change’ Is Messing With Semen Or Something

Hey, now, we have a new one from the Cult of Climastrology

Your semen is not immune to climate change

climate change joke

The first piece of the puzzle was Gustavo Luis Verón’s research during his PhD studies, when he analyzed semen quality based on different factors in Argentina. Obesity, age and climatic factors were some of the variables that he investigated. At the end of 2021, the results showed that semen samples generated in the winter were noticeably better quality than those generated in the summer. This information got him obsessed with another question: Could increasing heat waves be putting male fertility in check? The latest findings by Verón and his colleagues seem to indicate so. According to a study published this year in Science Direct, semen samples obtained during heat waves presented 10% fewer motile sperm — the only ones capable of fertilizing an egg — than samples that were never exposed. The high temperatures also affected their morphology.

For Dr. Mónica Vázquez-Levin, principal researcher at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (Conicet) and another one of the authors of the report, given the frequency and intensity of these weather events, “the climate will eventually be a variable for planning parenthood.” (snip)

“Historically there has been a very big burden on our shoulders. The inability to conceive had always been attributed to women,” says Vázquez-Levin. Science, once again, shows how wrong we were. About 17.5% of the world’s adults (one in six) will be infertile, according to the WHO. Half of these cases will be due to male infertility. “One of the causes that we already know is global warming. The heat waves are going to have an impact on the demographics of the world if we do nothing.”

Just another in a long line of scaremongering prognostications. It’s really all they have. According to their dogma, if all of them gave their own use of fossil fuels everything would be fine.

New Poll Has Trump Leading In Every Swing State

Here’s the question: can Trump ignore his normal instincts and say the things that will help get him elected again?

Emerson Poll: Donald Trump Leads Biden in Every Key Swing State

Former President Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden in six swing states, an Emerson/DemNextGen poll found Monday, further fueling fears among Democrats about Biden’s political viability.

Trump leads in every swing state by at least three points, except in Michigan, where he leads by one:

Pennsylvania – Trump: 48% (+5) Biden: 43%

Wisconsin – Trump: 47% (+3) Biden: 44%

Michigan – Trump: 45% (+1) Biden: 44%

Nevada – Trump: 47% (+6) Biden: 41%

Arizona – Trump: 46% (+4) Biden: 42%

Georgia – Trump: 47% (+5) Biden: 42%

Trump increased his lead over Biden in Georgia (+1), Nevada (+4), and Pennsylvania (+3), the July Emerson poll shows compared to June’s poll.

Has Trump learned anything over the years? Will he continue to allow Biden to make mistakes, and do things like just talk about policy? Or will he do the things that drive people away? The election is 4 months away.

House and Senate races draw renewed focus for Democrats after Biden’s bad debate

President Joe Biden’s shaky debate performance has turned more attention in the Democratic Party on races further down the ballot, with donors, candidates and strategists looking for ways to shore up a congressional firewall against the chance of another Donald Trump presidency.

One major liberal fundraising group said it has seen a big uptick in donor interest in its down-ballot efforts. Battleground candidates are largely keeping their heads down amid intraparty handwringing about whether Biden should stay in the race. And Democratic strategists involved in House and Senate races are noting that their candidates have long been running far ahead of Biden in public and private polling, as the president has struggled to consolidate the party’s base, including Black voters and young voters.

The big concern now is that those voters, unenthusiastic about their choices at the top of the ticket and perhaps newly concerned about Biden after the debate, decide not to show up in November, depriving other Democrats of their votes.

And see, this is a huge concern. It really will come down to the notion that if Trump wins, the GOP will keep the House and most likely the Senate, and state elections will trend towards Republicans. If Biden wins, it will most likely mean Dems take the House, keep the Senate, and there could be bad news in the states. Trump needs to do the wise things politically. Will he?

June Was Hottest In Human History Or Something

It’s a cute little headline from WION, and the “human history” is supposed to capture your attention over “recorded”, which is their cop-out

Hottest June in human history recorded as Earth continues to bake, data shows

European Union’s climate monitor on Monday (Jul 8) revealed that last month was the hottest June on record across the globe. The global average temperature recorded last month broke the previous June record set in 2023.

Since June last year, the world has baked for 12 consecutive months, setting a streak of unprecedented global heat, as per the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S). The data suggests that 2024 could pip 2023 as the hottest year since record-keeping began.

See, they tried to play a game with the headline, but

Humanity has been around for 7 million years, so, no. That’s from climate.gov. Again, they play a shell game and switch to recorded, which really doesn’t go back that far. It was clearly warmer during several previous Holocene warm periods. Regardless, this is all your fault, so, you need to give your money and freedom to government so they can do nothing but redistribute your money and control your life. Even if it is the hottest, that doesn’t prove it is mostly/solely caused by Mankind. Just that the Earth is in a warm period.

Crazy Michael Cohen Says Trump Will Run America Like A Fuhrer

This is not an unusual position from the Never Trumpers, who all seem to believe that Trump is a Bad Man and is the next coming of Adolph Hitler

Michael Cohen warns Trump will run US ‘like the Führer’ if reelected after Supreme Court immunity ruling

Donald Trump’s former lawyer and one-time fixer Michael Cohen has warned that his ex-boss will run the country “like the Führer” if he is re-elected in November, thanks to the recent Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity.

On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump, and other presidents, have absolute immunity from prosecution for actions that fall under a president’s “core” powers – or those directly given by the US Constitution.

The majority of justices also ruled that presidents have broad immunity from criminal prosecution for “official acts” but not for “unofficial acts” – though the court did not specify what these acts could be.

Citing theTrump vs US ruling, Cohen told The Daily Beast that the former president could now wield his power in whatever way he wants if he takes back the White House this November.

“He’ll run the country like a king, like a supreme leader, like a monarch, like a dictator, like the Führer,” Cohen said, invoking the German word strongly associated with Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

Even with the ruling, Trump understands there are limits. Regardless, what evidence is there that he will do be Hitler 2.0? Did he do this during his first term? Other than 15 days to end the pandemic, which wasn’t his idea, did he take away people’s freedoms? Start imprisoning Americans for minor offenses or nothing? Start killing them? Did he ban the Democratic Party? It’s not Trump who hates Jews, Gypsies, and others. He worked to end wars, not see them started. He didn’t build death camps. He sure didn’t tell people what they can and can’t drive. Seriously, what evidence is there?

Cohen went on to claim that Trump plans to dismantle parts of the government to consolidate power to the executive branch in which he now has immunity from criminal prosecution.

“Members of the Supreme Court and federal judges will similarly become neutered as Donald fulfills his promise to dismantle our tripartite system of government, stripping the legislative and judicial branches of their coequal power and conferring all power to the executive branch; meaning himself,” Cohen said.

Oh, lord. Cohen is using the insane Project 2025 stuff, which, if real and not a Democrat false flag, is simply bad politics. It’s throwing lots of different red meat to all different beliefs within the Republican Party. But, none of it would lead to Trump being a dictator. Some of it overlaps Trumps Agenda47. If Trump wins, he’ll do pretty much what he did during his first term, which was working to reduce federal regulations on US citizens, sort of working to stop illegal immigration, decreasing the burden of federal government on citizens, reducing taxation on all, increasing freedom and freedom from government. We sure won’t get a “mandate” forcing citizens to switch to EVs and a DOJ that tries to put citizens in jail for 20 years for wandering around the Congressional building.

But, the wacko Never Trumpers and some Democrats have actually convinced themselves that Trump is Hitler 2.0. That’s how crazy they are. Trump is not a good person, just like most politicians. But, his policies are a darned sight better than Biden and any Democrat, so, I’d rather he be in office.
