Climate change could double the number of major hurricanes and typhoons by 2050, study finds

Thanks to climate change, the number of hurricanes and typhoons rated as Category 3 storms and higher could double by the year 2050, a new study concludes.

Using computer modeling, the study, which was published Wednesday in the journal Science Advances, concluded that, as global air and water temperatures continue to rise due to excess greenhouse gas emissions, the increase in the number of major hurricanes and typhoons will affect a larger number of people.

Computer models? That’s a joke, right?

According to the new study, climate change will help increase the wind speeds of major hurricanes by as much as 20% over the next 28 years, as well as the overall frequency of Category 4 and 5 storms by more than 200% in some parts of the world.

“Our results also reemphasize that regions that currently have a (very) low risk could start to be really impacted by tropical cyclones under climate change,” Nadia Bloemendaal, a climate scientist at the University of Amsterdam and the study’s lead author, told CNN. “We found it shocking to see the disproportionate amount of developing countries at risk for future climate change.”

Who’s held responsible if this fails to materialize? Oh, right, no one will remember this in 2050, it’s meant to scare people now to Do Something. Things that the Warmists won’t do voluntarily in their own lives.

Broken climate promises

The world observed Earth Day for the 52nd time last week, but there was a shadow on the celebration. Earlier in the month, the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued its latest report on efforts to stop global warming. It showed a “litany of broken climate promises” was “putting us on track towards an unlivable world,” in the words of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The report is an indictment of governments, corporations and investors who have signed on to the “net-zero carbon” goal but have put little or no concrete effort behind their pledges. “Government and business are saying one thing and doing another,” Guterres said. “Simply put, they are lying.”

Who’s surprised? Most Warmists fail to keep to their pledges. Citizens might clamor for them, but, once instituted, they are not happy with the effects on their own lives. They thought all the bad stuff would apply to Other People. Corporations and investors are going to care about their bottom lines.

Moonbat Group Petitions FCC To Block Musk’s Twitter Purchase, Gets Shot Down

FCC commissioner shoots down ‘absurd’ claim that the federal government can block Musk’s Twitter purchase

Brendan Carr, a commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), rejected a left-leaning organization’s claim that the FCC has the authority to block Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, in part because Musk also owns Starlink.

After Twitter accepted Musk’s $44 billion offer Monday, the Open Markets Institute warned that the deal represents a threat to “American democracy and free speech,” suggested the deal is illegal, and argued that the federal government has the power to block it.

“The Open Markets Institute believes the deal poses a number of immediate and direct threats to American democracy and free speech,” OMI Director Barry Lynn said in a statement. “Open Markets also believes the deal violates existing law, and that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have ample authority to block it.”

A threat to democracy? Really? This has become a kneejerk response from American moonbats to anything they disagree with, even though a) we do not have a democracy and b) there’s zero threat except in their moonbat minds. Take a look at the news media in other countries. You aren’t seeing the same hysteria about the purchase of Twitter in Britain, France, Germany, or anywhere else. A threat to free speech? Yes, Progressives do see having more free speech as a threat to free speech.

Lynn ended the letter by encouraging the federal government not just to block Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, but to regulate Facebook, Google, and Amazon by firmly reestablishing “clear bans on any manipulation of communications by essential platforms, and to eliminate all business models that rely on such manipulation.”

See, what OMI really wants is government control of those companies, meaning that far left bureaucrats will set the terms for manipulation.

Brendan Carr, a Trump-appointed FCC commissioner, shot down Lynn’s claim as “absurd.”

“The FCC has no authority to block Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, and to suggest otherwise is absurd,” Carr said in a statement Wednesday. “I would welcome the full FCC making it clear that we will not entertain these types of frivolous arguments.”

It is absurd, it is frivolous. OMI barely makes a decent argument, you can feel Lynn screeching while typing it. The article includes some of the letter, but, really needed this whole paragraph

The most obvious problem is that the deal would give to a single man – one who already wields immense political and economic power – direct control over one of world’s most important platforms for public communications and debate. As has been true from the Founding, the American people have an absolute right to ensure the full openness and neutrality of all essential public infrastructure. Specific to communications, we see this in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, in the Telegraph acts of 1860 and 1866, the Mann-Elkins Act of 1910, the Communications Act of 1934, and many other federal and state laws. Americans have also repeatedly used our antitrust laws to prevent concentrations of power over communications, speech, debate, and news.

Interestingly, the same moonbats, including OMI, have had no problem with the way Twitter and others censor those they disagree with. The bigger one is calling Twitter, and the others, “public infrastructure.” They really do think it’s essential to government. That it should be run by government. Loony tunes.

John Kerry climateUS Climate Envoy John Kerry warned Wednesday that world leaders will blow through a critical climate-change threshold unless they dramatically accelerate the transition to clean energy.

“Let me be absolutely clear: we’re heading to well over 2 degrees right now — 2.7, or something like that,” Kerry said, speaking at Foreign Policy magazine’s Climate Summit.

Kerry added that if the commitments made at COP26 in Glasgow are implemented over the next eight or nine years, “the International Energy Agency tells us we would be at 1.8 degrees of warming by 2050, and that’s a huge step forward.” (big snip to end)

Kerry said that the private sector needs signals and investments from the government to speed the energy transition.

“They need signals from the government — a tax credit, an incentive,” Kerry said. “They need to know the demand is real and it’s going to be implemented. This is an exciting, transformational moment where we’re really at the brink of a new industrial revolution.”

By signals, he means Government implementing all sorts of restrictions and taxes on companies and citizens while the big wigs run around the world on private jets, drive around in big gas guzzling limos, and generally live the good life they’ll deny to the peons.

LGB Sets Up Disinformation Governance Board

Biden sets up toothless ‘Disinformation Governance Board’ to combat midterm fake news headed by Russia ‘expert’ who called Hunter’s laptop a ‘Trump campaign product’ and spoke out AGAINST free speech

President Biden has set up a toothless ‘disinformation’ board headed-up by a woke so-called expert who’s against free speech and tried to pour cold water on the Hunter laptop scandal.

Nina Jankowicz will head The Department of Homeland Security’s Disinformation Governance Board as executive director, Politico Playbook reported Wednesday morning.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandor Mayorkas did not disclose any powers that would be granted to the dystopian-sounding board while addressing lawmakers on Wednesday.

He explained that the board would work to tackle disinformation ahead of the November midterms, particularly in Hispanic communities.

But Mayorkas did say that the new board would come under the Biden-era Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3), meaning it would have no powers to crack down on disinformation and will instead try to combat it by throwing money at what it sees as problems.

Yes, it is rather dystopian. Sounds like something China or Russia would come up with. The Government has no Constitutional authority to regulate free speech. Have these people read the 1st Amendment?

The (CP3) program provides communities with resources and tools to help prevent individuals from radicalizing to violence. Last year, CP3 awarded about $20 million in grants through its Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Grant Program.

Yeah, most of the violence came from the same people voting Democrat.

Jankowicz also suggested last week that she opposes the The First Amendment because she thinks it is bad for ‘marginalized communities’ and called Elon Musk a ‘free speech absolutist’ because he wants to make Twitter more open to all voices.

Shouldn’t someone in charge of a “board” like this need to be confirmed by Congress? The GOP is going to have quite a bit on their plate when investigating the Biden admin, including this bit of insanity. I wonder if any Free Speech group will sue over the creating of this board?

Good News, There’s Only Eight Years Left

Earlier this month, more than 300 people in South Africa were killed as record rainfall washed away buildings and infrastructure in the Kwa-Zulu Natal province. A day earlier, dozens were killed in the Philippines after tropical storm Megi spurred landslides and floods.

The world is rapidly shifting — and the impact of human-caused climate change is increasingly evident.

“We’re in a very different place now from where we were even just a couple decades ago,” atmospheric physicist Alex Hall, director of the UCLA Center of Climate Science, told CBS News.

Just wondering, how does this compare to the previous Holocene warm periods? It’s rather important information to know for comparison. Further, there’s always going to be some sort of record rainfall, and putting buildings in areas means the water has nowhere to go, creating landslides.

This is why experts say carbon emissions must be addressed immediately. Carbon dioxide is the most abundant of the greenhouse gases — a set of gases that in large quantities create a sort of heavy blanket in the atmosphere that traps heat on Earth. In 2020, carbon dioxide accounted for roughly 79% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S., according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Failure to limit this gas over the next eight years, the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has warned, will bring about so much warming that the 2030s will bring “extreme events unprecedented in the observational record.”

And it’s a grim future in store if we don’t take action swiftly.

Grim! It’s so grim that almost no climate scientists have given up their fossil fueled travel, moved into tiny homes, etc and so on. And, what will they say when Doom doesn’t arrive in 2030?

Before Washington’s ‘Nerd Prom,’ Lots of Risk-Benefit Calculation

Vice President Kamala Harris’s Covid-19 diagnosis is raising questions that some in the nation’s capital wish would remain unspoken: Is it safe for President Biden to attend the so-called nerd prom, otherwise known as the White House Correspondents’ Dinner? Should the dinner even be held?

The flashy event, at which journalists, politicians and policy wonks mingle with celebrities, is returning in person this Saturday after a two-year absence because of the pandemic. It will be the first time a president has attended since 2016. Expected attendance: 2,600.

As the nation lurches out of the acute phase of the pandemic and into what some are calling the new normal, the dinner — like so much of American life — is prompting a good deal of risk-benefit calculation. Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, Mr. Biden’s top medical adviser for the coronavirus, said on Tuesday that he had decided not to attend “because of my individual assessment of my personal risk.”

Why would Fauci be invited in the first place? Oh, right, he’s a celebrity.

But Mr. Biden, who at 79 is two years younger than Mr. Fauci, will be there, as will his wife, Dr. Jill Biden. The White House press secretary, Jen Psaki, told reporters on Tuesday that Ms. Harris’s diagnosis had not changed the president’s thinking about the dinner, which she described as an opportunity to “talk about the importance of journalism in the world.”

And neither Brandon nor Jill will be masked up, despite wanted Other people to wear masks on airplanes, buses, trains, and in transit centers….hey, I wonder, was Joe wearing a mask while he flew on Air Force 1? Funny, if you think about it, how we weren’t seeing any photos from any journalist or the White House photographers of Joe on AF1 since he took office.

Still, there is an uneasy feeling here — and a worry that maybe a gathering of 2,600 people, including journalists and politicians who have spent more than two years warning about the dangers of the pandemic may not be the best look.

“Well, there is a question of whether it’s EVER appropriate to engage in an exercise in gaudy, celebrity-drenched self-adulation,” David Axelrod, a Democratic strategist who served as a senior adviser to former President Barack Obama, wrote in an email, “but that’s a separate question.”

However, Mr. Axelrod added, “The country plainly is eager to move on and people are regularly gathering in public places — stadiums, theaters, restaurants — and, as a political matter, I’m sure the president is eager to embrace the sense that the siege is largely behind us.”

Yeah, well, we’ve seen this already, with all the big wigs screeching to mask up, and forcing people, including children, to mask up, not wearing their masks, like, say, at the Super Bowl. Joe wore his mask sometime and at other times not. In the few occasions he gave a speech indoors or something he would take it off, in contradiction of his own executive order for masking in federal buildings.

Citing advice from Dr. Fauci, who suggested same-day testing in addition to a vaccination requirement when asked if large-scale events should proceed, Mr. Portnoy said guests would be required to provide proof of vaccination and a same-day negative antigen test via Bindle, a verification app.

He also added some advice of his own, telling members that if they were eligible for a fourth dose of vaccine, they should consider getting one.

Expect More Disasters, U.N. Warns, as Climate Change Worsens Everything From Droughts to Economic Meltdowns

A disaster-weary globe will be hit harder in the coming years by even more catastrophes colliding in an interconnected world, a United Nations report issued Monday says.

If current trends continue the world will go from around 400 disasters per year in 2015 to an onslaught of about 560 catastrophes a year by 2030, the scientific report by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction said. By comparison from 1970 to 2000, the world suffered just 90 to 100 medium to large scale disasters a year, the report said.

The number of extreme heat waves in 2030 will be three times what it was in 2001 and there will be 30% more droughts, the report predicted. It’s not just natural disasters amplified by climate change, it’s COVID-19, economic meltdowns and food shortages. Climate change has a huge footprint in the number of disasters, report authors said.

Did they just link Wuhan Flu to ‘climate change’? When any person who’s not an idiot knows it came from a lab. Certainly they wouldn’t link natural disasters, right?

Not every hurricane or earthquake has to turn into a disaster, Mizutori said. A lot of damage is avoided with planning and prevention.

Yup, linking earthquakes to people refusing to give up eating meat and pay carbon taxes.

That’s because both COVID-19 and climate change disasters have come to places that didn’t used to get them, like tropical cyclones hitting Mozambique, Mizutori said. It’s also the way disasters interact with each other, compounding damage, like wildfires plus heatwaves or a war in Ukraine plus food and fuel shortages, Pulwarty said.

Yup, linking the Chinese coronavirus. Cultists.

“In a world of distrust and misinformation, this is a key to moving forward,” said University of South Carolina Hazards Vulnerability and Resilience Institute Co-Director Susan Cutter, who wasn’t part of the report. “We can move forward to reduce the underlying drivers of risk: Inequality, poverty and most significantly climate change.”

And had to throw in “misinformation”, along with other political things. And, yes, the report, if you check the first link in the first excerpt, mentions volcanoes, landslides, extreme cold temperatures, and all storms to the actions of mankind. Because a cult

So, I’m guessing that the volcano that was popping off in the Canary Islands recently was not natural in the mind of a climate cult member? Loony tunes. BTW, the report is all about “transforming governance for a resilient future.” Not ominous at all.

Surprise: Joe Manchin’s Approval Rating Skyrockets

Sen. Joe Manchin’s West Virginia approval rating skyrockets during Biden’s term, Morning Consult poll finds

Sen. Joe Manchin’s approval rating has soared in his home state of West Virginia compared to last year, a recent poll by Morning Consult shows. Manchin’s popularity jump comes after months of blocking of White House priorities.

According to the poll, 57% of voters approve of Manchin, compared to 40% in the first quarter of 2021. His approval rating saw the biggest improvement of any senator within the first quarter of this year.

Republicans, especially, found a lot to like about Manchin. According to the poll, his approval rating nearly doubled among those voters to 69% since the first quarter of 2021.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden’s approval rating has slid. In a poll conducted by Quinnipiac University in January only 33% of people who took the survey approved the president’s performance, while 53% did not.

Too many elected officials simply want to stick with the Big Agenda of their party, rather than considering the wants and needs of the people who voted them in, along with the people who voted for the Other Guy. Manchin seems concerned with the needs and wants of West Virginia, hence the approval rating bump. Biden seems concerned with his own agenda, regardless of it making no sense and hurting American citizens.

I’ll say it again: it’s why the 17th Amendment needs to be repealed so that Senators are appointed by the state legislatures, so that they are beholden to their states. Period.

Doesn’t mean Manchin is a great guy. He still has quite a few left leaning positions, but, he’s just not a wackadoodle leftist nutjob.
